SUPERGIRL Sneak Peeks: Howling Like A Banshee

Will Kara (Melissa Benoist) be seeing green tonight on SUPERGIRL?  Possibly, when a beauty whose name screams “Emerald Isle”… Siobhan Smythe…is hired to be Cat Grant’s (Calista Flockhart) other assistant.

Siobhan is no sooner hired than she one-ups Kara at every opportunity.  Siobhan is dubbed “Assistant #1” by Cat, demoting Kara to “Assistant #2.”

Cat adds insult to injury by pronouncing Siobhan’s name correctly, something that she rarely has done with Kara’s name.  In fact, Cat makes it a point to show her possible preference for Siobhan at every turn.

SUPERGIRL producers are keeping things all in the family.  CHASING LIFE’s Italia Ricci is cast to play Siobhan.  Ricci is engaged to Robbie Amell, from THE FLASH and DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW.  Robbie is the cousin of ARROW’s Stephen Amell whose daughter reportedly will be flower girl in the wedding later this year.

All four series are from the same production companies, and it has been leaked that the villain in the upcoming SUPERGIRL/THE FLASH crossover will be the Silver Banshee.

SPOILER ALERT:  Siobhan Smythe is Silver Banshee.  The Banshee (spelled “Bean Sidhe” in Irish folklore) and Master Jailer have teamed up in DC Comics to fight Superman and SUPERGIRL, and Master Jailer (guest star Jeff Branson) also appears in tonight’s episode, “Truth, Justice and the American Way.”

Master Jailer has had several versions throughout the DC Universe ranging from a guy from Smallville to a S.T.A.R. Labs employee.  Tonight, he is hunting and executing escaped Fort Rozz prisoners and battling SUPERGIRL.

Silver Banshee’s character eventually became a hero in the comics, but this version seems to be the previous incarnation, if an eavesdropping co-worker is any indication of Siobhan’s real personality.

Whatever Siobhan’s intentions, Kara seems jealous of her co-worker’s machinations to climb up the CatCo ladder.  But then, Siobhan has more time.  She is not out saving the world as SUPERGIRL.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum returns as Lucy Lane who has tapped her father’s Army intelligence network and turns up information on the DEO.  Unfortunately for James (Mehcad Brooks), he misspeaks and Lucy realizes that her fiancé already knows about the secret agency.  She worries how close James and SUPERGIRL really are.

Jealousy may turn out to be the biggest monster of all.

SUPERGIRL also stars Chyler Leigh, David Harewood and Jeremy Jordan.   Returning tonight are Peter Facinelli, Laura Benani, Chris Vance and Briana Venskus.  Other guest stars are Todd Sherry as Professor Alphonse Luzano (another DC Comics villain/criminal scientist), Blake Berris, Jacqueline Grace Lopez and Ray Campbell.

The story for “Truth, Justice and the American Way” was written by Michael Grassi with the teleplay by Yahlin Chang and Caitlin Parrish and was directed by Lexi Alexander.

SUPERGIRL airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS in the U.S. and on Global TV in Canada.
