DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Sneak Peek: Justified?

The question of “What would YOU do?” often comes up in situations that can be upsetting.  Tonight, on DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, the worst possible scenario puts team members at odds with each other as they have to answer that question.

The dilemma that they face is the morality of killing a child under any circumstance.

Written by Executive Producers Phil Klemmer and Marc Guggenheim, tonight’s episode finds the Legends facing a terrible choice.  Vandal Savage (guest star Casper Crump) is exerting influence over a 14-year-old boy (guest star Cory Gruter-Andrew) who is destined to grow up to be the time-jumping villain, Per Degaton.

The Legends make their own time jump into the future in an attempt to stop Savage from turning the adolescent into a vehicle for world domination.

Rip explains to the team that they should consider Per Degaton to be an evil force of global proportions, likening him to Adolf Hitler…perhaps an understatement.

In the comics, Per Degaton travels through time to bring nuclear warheads to another decade in his conquest to rule the world.  In other versions, he is an immortal wraith who knows about the multiverses and can see the future, but his end game still is to conquer and rule the planet.

Tonight, Savage plans to rise to power by using Per Degaton, ingratiating himself into the life of this 14-year-old boy by becoming his tutor and his ally.

The moral dilemma is that the boy has not become the despot who wants to rule mankind yet…he is still a kid.

Team members already are at heightened emotional upheaval.  Sara (Caity Lotz) is trying to help Snart (Wentworth Miller) through a rough patch, and Ray (Brandon Routh) learns something that could impact his future with Kendra (Ciara Renée).

When they reach the future, Ray encounters a situation for which he is unprepared…meeting his great-great-great-great granddaughter.  It seems as though Ray’s legacy of crime fighting remains a Palmer family tradition.  Palmer Tech is still a leader in technology, creating designs that assist law enforcement in reducing crime.

How can a man who has established a legacy of law enforcement deal with the morality of killing the springboard that Savage will use to conquer the world?

What sort of justification is there to kill a child, even if he is destined to become a monster?  Ray and the rest of the Legends must face this issue and make a choice.

DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW also stars Victor Garber, Dominic Purcell, Arthur Darvill and Franz Drameh.  Tonight’s episode, “Progency,” was directed by David Geddes.
