THE ORIGINALS Sneak Peek: Mad Matt

On the heels of Ian Somerhalder’s directorial turn on last week’s THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, star of THE ORIGINALS, Joseph Morgan, takes the shot-caller chair this week on his own series.

Regarding Morgan’s first directing effort for the series, Executive Producer, Michael Narducci, has been quoted as saying, “I really cannot say enough about how amazing Joseph did…He is an incredible director…and it’s a great episode.”

Last week, in an unexpected turn, Lucien (guest star Andrew Lees) kidnapped Freya (Riley Voelkel), taking the deadly white oak bullet in the process.  Tonight, Lucien’s deadly plan unfolds revealing the scheme behind his actions.

Two of the battling Mikaleson brothers, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Finn (guest star Casper Zafer), follow a lead to Freya that takes them back to their old stomping grounds, Mystic Falls.

While there, they run afoul of Mystic Falls sheriff, Matt Donovan (guest star Zach Roerig) in this crossover of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and THE ORIGINALS.  Matt has been on a vampire-hunting rage on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and is not happy to see the Mikaelsons back in town.  Finn is especially unhappy to see the sheriff as Matt already killed Finn once back in TVD’s season 3.

Producers have said that there will be more crossovers between the two shows, since both series shoot in Covington, Georgia, (with The Originals doing some location shooting in New Orleans).  Both shows share producers and both already have been renewed for next season.

Being behind the camera does not mean that Morgan gets a night off from being in front of the camera. Klaus (Morgan) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) continue to strengthen their relationship for the sake of their daughter.

Is Lucien the “friend” warned about in Freya’s prophecy?  In that prophecy, the Mikaelsons will be destroyed “One by friend.  One by foe, and one by family.” Kol (guest star Nathaniel Buzolic) already tried to kill his brother, Finn, last week, and his spiraling behavior leaves Davina (Danielle Campbell) concerned for their future together.

When Davina and Kol are lured to St. James, the one place where magic does not work, she becomes even more suspicious when she finds the tarot card that Vincent was using to warn her about impending danger.  Has Kol or some sinister force trapped her in the one place where her powers are useless?

Written by Declan de Barra & Diane Ademu-John, this episode of THE ORIGINALS, “Beyond the Black Horizon,” airs tonight (April 8) at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
