SCORPION Comic-Con Panel: The Cast and Producers Tease Season 3

SCORPION stars Katharine McPhee, Ari Stidham, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jadyn Wong — along with executive producer Nicholas Wootton — took to the stage at San Diego Comic-Con to tease what’s coming up for season 3.

The Season Premiere. Wootton said “you’re going to get a lot of resolution on a lot of things.” And, sadly, irresolution on a lot of things. The season premiere is pretty much a direct pick-up from the season finale and only a few hours will have passed. We’re going to see what happens when Walter goes up to Tahoe and what happens with Paige and Tim.

Happy’s Secret. Wong said her first reaction when she heard about Happy’s secret was “yes!” Wootton said that who Happy is married to is “really not who you are expecting. And it’s going to be a lot of fun”.

Paige’s feelings. McPhee says that Paige’s feelings about Walter are always there, but she’s had to put them aside because Walter can’t love her the way he wants to. So those feelings are a bit dormant now and she has had to learn to move on. She also said it’s going to be “an interesting interaction” when Walter shows up in Tahoe in the premiere.

Sylvester’s Grief. SCORPION is going to take Sylvester to different places instead of just giving him a new love interest in the new season. Meghan’s death is still a deep wound for him but we’re “going to see him come out of his shell in an interesting way”. Wootton hinted that politics might be that way, but it’s unclear if he was just joking.

Origin Stories. Will they show the origin stories of these characters? Wootton says it’s an idea they’ve been exploring since season 1. Unfortunately, there’s too much personal, romantic and action material they’re going to tackle this year, but it might happen in the future.

Cabe’s Romantic Life. There is a character who will cross paths with Cabe in “a romantic way” this season, although Wootton wouldn’t confirm whether Cabe will have a full-blown romance.

More Interaction in Season 3. Kaye Thomas says that all of the relationships for the characters are getting more intimate in season 3 and we’ll see characters who don’t normally work together interacting a lot more. McPhee also hinted that episode 3.03 is one of their favorite episodes of all of the seasons. “It’s very exciting and it’s very different”.  The characters will also be traveling to Bulgaria and Wootton says that they’re going to Ireland.

An Antagonist Group. One audience member asked if the writers had ever considered creating an anti-Scorpion group to act as antagonists for Team Scorpion. Wootton said there isn’t a big ongoing mythology aspect to the show (with the exception of personal stories carrying over from episode to episode), so they’ve been hesitant to tackle that kind of storyline. It could, however, come up in the future.

True to Real Life? While SCORPION was based on the life of the real Walter O’Brien, Wootton says that they’ve departed from his experiences early in the first season, especially as it relates to the relationships in the show.

SCORPION returns for its third season on Monday, October 3 with a two-hour premiere beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
