DESIGNATED SURVIVOR returns for week three tonight as the FBI continues to investigate the Capitol bombing and President Kirkman tries to stitch together a government with all other heads of the Richmond administration, all but one member of Congress, and the Supreme Court killed in the bombing.
In the first two episodes, it’s become apparent not everyone thinks the former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development is suited to the highest office in the land, including the former President’s Chief of Staff and speech writer and the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the military. Kirkman has appeared almost milquetoast assuming the office, but when pressed with tough decisions, he has risen to the moment. You have to feel for the guy, stepping cold into an office with no preparation and no experience. But beneath the mild exterior there is a man of purpose and passion waiting to act.
This week, new challenges confront him. His staff tries to keep secret a high-level security breach of the White House, just as Kirkman is about to give his first television interview, conducted by real-life ABC News anchor Elizabeth Vargas. She has learned from unnamed sources that President Kirkman had fired Kirkman just before the bombing and wonders during the interview if he really should be President. Meanwhile, FBI Agent Hannah Wells, investigating the bombing scene from the beginning, develops theories of her own on who is behind the attack.
DESIGNATED SURVIVOR is just getting its legs but it’s already riveting television as we head into the heat of the real election.
