LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season 2 Premiere Teasers: Theory Of Relativity

Legends come and legends go, and crimefighting traditions are passed between family members. With Hawkman and Hawkgirl leaving at the end of last season and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) sacrificing himself for the team, there are open slots on DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW.

In tonight’s Season 2 premiere, some of that void will be filled with more to come. Here’s what you need to know about the episode:

Meet Dr. Nick Heywood. We’re back in Star City in 2016 when the episode begins and Dr. Nick Heywood is running through the halls, searching for Oliver Queen. Here’s there to talk about Sara, Ray and the other Legends. As we soon learn, he’s a historian and “time detective” who is the grandson of Commander Steel, a superhero whose story was based in World War II. Nate continues Grandpa Henry’s legacy by eventually assuming the mantle of Citizen Steel. In the present day, he’s noticed some changes to history and he thinks the Legends are responsible, which is why he needs Oliver’s help. He also thinks they’re in trouble because now there’s reports that the Legends came in contact with an A-bomb back in the early 1940s.

Where Are the Legends? An investigation by Heywood and Oliver leads to Mick, who sheds some light on where the Legends are. Or, at least, where they were. Specifically, they had been in 1600s France to try and protect history from aberrations. And apparently before that they had been time traveling for six months trying to protect history. But when something terrible happened in 1942, the Legends realized they had to step in. Specifically, they set out to protect Albert Einstein from being kidnapped by the Nazis. Apparently, the Nazis planned to abduct the physicist to force him to design a nuclear bomb, thus changing the outcome of the war and the face of history.

Darhk Returns. As we soon learn via flashbacks, Sara seemed to think part of the problem in 1942 revolved around Damien Darhk. Friction soon appeared between the team members as Sara tried to get revenge against Darhk , all the while keeping her suspicions quiet. When everyone was suddenly in a face-to-face battle against Darhk and the Nazis, Sara’s deserve for revenge overtook her common sense. Look for more of Darhk, who will be joining the Legion of Doom. Dahrk, Malcolm Merlyn/Dark Arrow (John Barrowman), Reverse Flash (Matt Letscher) and Captain Cold (who seems to be reverting to his non-heroic side) will be a traveling band of bad guys who will pop up across The CW superhero shows this season.

Scattered Through Time. Eventually, all of the Legends end up scattered throughout history and Oliver suggests that Dr. Heywood might be the very person who needs to find them and reunite the group. But the big question is: where is Rip Hunter?

It’s a good thing that the LEGENDS OF TOMORROW will not have to battle the baddies alone all season. After getting a visit from Rex Tyler/Hourman (Patrick J. Adams) at the end of last season, Tyler’s fellow heroes from the Justice Society of America will be making an appearance in episode 2.02 to join up with the Legends. Maisie Richardson-Sellers (the vessel for Rebekah’s spirit on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES) will be joining the cast as Vixen. Megalyn Echikunwoke (or Megalyn E.K. for short) guest starred as Vixen on ARROW and voices the character on the CW Seed, but was unavailable for Legends due to other commitments.

DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW airs tonight at 8pm on The CW in the U.S. and on CTV Two in Canada.
