SUPERGIRL Sneak Peek: We’re With Her

In a year full of divisiveness over politics and ideology, SUPERGIRL weighs in among the pundits and prognosticators.

On Supergirl’s Earth, the electorate already has voted a woman into office as President, and that woman is none other than Lynda Carter, aka WONDER WOMAN.

Carter, a standard bearer among young girls in the 1970s, the former Miss World USA portrayed a character that not only was beautiful, she was strong, dynamic and could hold her own in the traditionally male role of a superhero.

Still on that track at 65-years-old, tonight Carter portrays an American President who touts the idea of inclusiveness on alien rights vs. human rights issues.

While that seems like it is targeted for this election season, inclusiveness has been a hallmark of comic books for decades. Martians, Kryptonians and Daxamites, as well as humans changed into non-human creatures, all shared the graphic novel landscape.

In fact, this year, Wonder Woman earned the distinction as a United Nations honorary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls. While that seems quite a feat for a comic book character, Wonder Woman has quite a backstory. She was created by William Moulton Marston, inventor of the lie detector.

On tonight’s episode of SUPERGIRL, “Welcome To Earth,” Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and the DEO are assigned to protect President Olivia Marsdin (Carter) and bring in the party responsible for attacks on the President.

A possible suspect is new alien Daxamite arrival, Mon-El (Chris Wood), who has escaped from the DEO. Alex (Chyler Leigh) teams up with Detective Maggie Sawyer (new cast member Floriana Lima) to investigate. Is the perpetrator an alien? Or is someone instigating that idea to turn humans against their alien neighbors?

Rachel Talalay directed “Welcome To Earth,” which was written by Jessica Queller and Derek Simon.

SUPERGIRL airs tonight (October 24) at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW in the U.S. and on Showcase in Canada.
