Tobias Church was a short-lived villain on season 5 of ARROW. The criminal was dispatched in last week’s episode and his death really made way for the real villain of the season: Prometheus. Now this week’s ARROW will pull back the curtain a bit more on Prometheus, who ups his killing spree. With more and more people dying, Team Arrow searches for a connection between the victims. But what’s uncovered is a connection between the victims, Prometheus and Oliver’s past.
During a recent visit to the set of ARROW in Vancouver*, the cast spoke to journalists about the rise of Prometheus.
“I think you see things start to kind of get more dire and a little bit more real in terms of the big bad [in this week’s episode],” Echo Kellum (Curtis Holt) said. “You know, Prometheus really rears his head in that episode and it really sends the team on a kind of mystery of what’s going on, what’s happening, to try to figure out exactly who this Prometheus character is.”
“We’re taking great strides in holding [the truth of Prometheus] close to the chest,” David Ramsey (John Diggle) hinted. “I can say that he and Oliver have a lot in common.” Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen) said that “to explore why [Prometheus is] doing what he’s doing, we actually have to go back in our story. Which is interesting and something that I’m very proud that we’re doing in a fifth season because we’re calling back to a lot of familiar parts of our early days in the show.”
As more and more of the mystery unravels, “Dig gets awed by every piece of the puzzle that comes together, like, ‘Oh! It’s because of that! He’s that!’,” Ramsey explained. “What’s great about Diggle is he’s the guy you can depend on. Kind of. He’s been less of that last season and part of this season. But for the most part he’s the guy you can count on to cut straight to the chase. ‘He’s a bad guy? He needs to be taken down. And that’s it.’ Oliver’s the one that kind of struggles with, ‘Oh, well maybe this. Maybe that.’ Diggle’s always the one that’s like, ‘Listen. He’s a criminal. We need to take him out. Don’t necessarily kill him, but he needs to go.’ So his reaction to Prometheus is the same as it was with Darhk, the same as it was with all our other villains. He needs to be taken out, that simple. Diggle’s the straight guy. He can depend on that.”
In addition to the team dealing with Prometheus, Oliver will be contending with Konstantin Kovar (played by Dolph Lundgren) this week. Amell said that “It’s interesting watching someone that has cut their teeth in film walk onto a 23-episode a year television show with 14-hour days, because he just moves at his own pace….I do think that it would’ve been a missed opportunity in the last year of these flashbacks to not have a really worthy adversary, and we’ve found that in Dolph, which is why he’ll be around for a while. It’s been a blast to work with him — it’s been awesome.”
