When we meet Mackenzie (a.k.a. “Mickey”) in the the first few moments of THE MICK, she’s running through a grocery store in her pyjamas, using the store’s products while freshening up in the morning. And we soon learn that this brash, two-bit hustler from Rhode Island has spent her entire life avoiding any semblance of responsibility. Always on the lookout for the next easy payday, Mickey uses her charms and intelligence to search for the “big win”.
Opportunity strikes when Mickey visits her estranged sister and billionaire brother-in-law in Greenwich, CT while looking for a handout. When the absurdly rich couple flees the country to escape federal fraud charges, Mickey assumes guardianship for their three high-maintenance and ill-parented children. First there’s Sabrina, an ambitious, 18-going-on-30-year-old who is a worthy adversary to Mickey; then Chip (13 years old), an arrogant, entitled neo-con-in-the-making with an extremely punchable face; and, finally, Ben (7 years old), an adorably fragile nerd.
The mansion, convertible, swimming pool and designer clothes are all within her reach, but to truly live the life of her dreams Mickey needs to transform these spoiled children into decent members of society — something she knows nothing about. Being a mother was never in the game plan for Mickey, but the kids desperately need an engaged parent and Mickey may be the only person capable of turning them into good people.
THE MICK premieres on Sunday, January 1 at approximately 8:00 p.m. ET/PT following the NFL doubleheader on Fox.
