SUITS Mid-Season Premiere Teasers: It’s Just Great Television

When we last left Pearson Specter Litt, everything was up in the air — everything, that is, except for Jessica Pearson’s future with the firm bearing her name. As the SUITS mid-season premiere aptly reminds viewers in its title, “She’s Gone.” That leaves the firm in an interesting state in SUITS 6.5. Who will be the new leader? Harvey Specter or Louis Litt? Surely, there will be some conflict before that question is answered fully….

Another important question left unanswered when SUITS left us last fall was that of the status of Mike Ross. He’s out of prison, but what will he do now? Oh, and while we’re at it: What exactly did that closing scene between Harvey Specter and Donna Paulsen mean? Check out our SUITS mid-season premiere preview for some clues; but you’ll have to tune in, most likely to more than one episode, for full answers.

Here’s What We Can Promise You in SUITS 6.11: Actual Character Development. One of the biggest gripes that critics had regarding the first half of SUITS season 6 was the total lack of growth for most of the series’ main characters. Mike Ross got out of prison way too soon, with basically zero lessons learned. He did more demanding to get his way than actually serving his time; and let’s not even begin to talk about the childish, manipulative behavior exhibited by Louis Litt in his “relationship” storyline. Yes, I use that term loosely.

Fear not, Suitors: While there are definitely some behavior patterns that you’ll recognize as “She’s Gone” unfolds, the outcomes will be quite a bit different than what you’re used to. Louis will be forced to take a good, hard look at his actions. Mike Ross will have an intensely difficult time getting his way, even when it seems that things are going well for him. And I could write a full novel on the importance of Harvey Specter’s journey in this episode. The end scene, in particular, shows a much more open and honest Harvey Specter than we have ever — and I mean ever seen — even in his counseling sessions with Dr. Agard in season 5.

Relationships, Relationships, Relationships. My favorite part of SUITS has always been watching how the characters interact, and the mid-season premiere delivers on that front. Big time. Without going into too much detail or giving the whole plot away, I can say this much for sure: It’s going to be a bumpy ride for Harvey and Mike, folks. The brotherly love’s still there…but sometimes, brothers fight — especially when the younger brother (finally) realizes the need to do some growing up on his own.

Louis and Tara are still a thing, I guess? Louis and Harvey, on the other hand, are going to have the expected tension following Jessica’s departure. It’s kind of, like, classic SUITS with a twist.

Oh, and the episode starts and ends with Donna and Harvey. No toaster required.

It’s Just Great Television. On top of the “big” story of a firm attempting to rebuild after its leader’s departure and the equally important story of Mike Ross’ journey back into the real world (as if he ever left it…or was he ever actually living in it?), there’s so much more to look forward to in SUITS 6×11. Gretchen’s back, and she’ll be instrumental in helping Louis to realize what’s really important. Rachel probably owes the woman flowers by the end of this thing.

Also back: Katrina Bennett, Robert Zane, and actual optimism regarding the future of this series following a prison arc that started off great, yet fizzled out, in the first half of the season.  While Gina Torres will be sorely missed as Jessica Pearson, I can assure you that SUITS is still in good hands.

Make sure to tune in to the SUITS mid-season premiere on Wednesday, January 25 at 10/9c on USA Network.
