POWERLESS: Living as a Civilian in a DC Hero World

Shows featuring superheroes generally tend to focus on the heroes themselves — and ignore the little guy on the ground who is just trying to run from the epic battle between good and evil playing out between heroes and villains.

But POWERLESS is a twist on the typical superhero show — this one focuses almost entirely on that little guy (a.k.a. the civilians who live in a world of superheroes). When we first meet Emily Locke, she’s not jaded enough to be annoyed when a fight between a hero and a villain causes her train to be late for work (although the rest of the Charm City passengers are). After all, it’s her first day as Director of Research and Development at Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer, and she’s psyched to tackle this new challenge.

But Emily is far more enthusiastic than her boss, Van Wayne, who is upset that he’s been sent to Charm City to run this business instead of hanging out with his popular cousin Bruce Wayne. And then there are her employees, who have accepted their company’s low rung on the totem poll of popularity and innovation. But when the company is in danger of closing, she rallies everyone to realize their full potential.

Don’t miss the series premiere of POWERLESS tonight (February 2) at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
