Everyone knows that technology can be hugely beneficial in people’s lives, but how helpful can it be for the police? On APB, Gideon Reeves thinks that technology will be crucial to solving the problem plaguing police departments.
Think of Gideon as part Elon Musk-part Tony Stark (although less of a playboy). He’s a hugely succesful engineer and he’s not afraid to ruffle feathers to prove that his inventions are useful. One night he enters a convenience store and stumbles upon a robbery. He calls 9-1-1 and gets put on a hold, which shocks him. When his best friend, Sully, interrupts the robber he gets shot and killed for his troubles and the police, of course, arrive too late to save him.
His friend’s death and the complete lack of progress in relation to his murder prompts Gideon to appear before the mayor with a strange proposition: he’ll help fund a public pension short-fall and, in exchange, the mayor will turn over Chicago’s troubled 13th District to Gideon. Once in control, Gideon utilizes a new APB app and state-of-the-art technology to help the police solve crimes.
But not everyone is on board with Gideon’s technological revolution. An early shooting of a police officer leads to a lot of blow-back from the other cops and the mayor. Still, Gideon is convinced he can help the police and the citizens of Chicago if the cops will just give him a chance.
APB premieres tonight (February 6) at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
