SUPERGIRL Sneak Peek: Mommie Dearest

Hate. Love. Misconception. Realization. Bias. Acceptance. SUPERGIRL continues to address an underlying theme as it explores the strain or support that friends and family have in each other’s lives.

Having befriended Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath), Supergirl expects some consternation from those around her. The Luthors have been at odds with her cousin, Superman, and denizens of Metropolis, National City and Earth for quite some time. Lena’s brother, Lex, and dad, Lionel, have tried many times to undermine Superman.

But the distaff side of the family could be a wildcard in the evil Luthor plan. Mom, Lillian (guest star Brenda Strong), definitely rates the “baddies” list, leading Project CADMUS’s attempts to disenfranchise/deport/dispatch all aliens on Earth.

Then, there is Lena. Insisting that her goal is to clear the Luthor name and take the rechristened “L-Corp” down a less devious, more well-intentioned path. However, Lena is torn between her stated good intentions and trying to be the daughter who makes her mother, however evil, proud.

Lena’s insecurity about being adopted, perhaps not feeling like a “real Luthor,” could drive her to do things she normally would not consider.

On tonight’s episode, aptly titled “Luthors,” Metallo (returning guest star Frederick Schmidt) breaks out of prison and frees Lillian from incarceration. The police suspect Lena for being involved in the escape and arrest her. Despite overwhelming evidence, Kara (Melissa Benoist) refuses to believe her friend is guilty and fights to clear Lena’s name.

Also in the throes of relationship trepidation…Alex (Chyler Leigh), as she and Maggie (Floriana Lima) celebrate their first Valentine’s Day together. The couple meets up with James (Mehcad Brooks), Winn (Jeremy Jordan), Mon-El (Chris Wood) and J’onn (David Harewood). Not only do her friends accept her new relationship, J’onn reveals that he has known about it all along.

Unfortunately for the Martian Manhunter, accepting Alex’s relationship is much easier than dealing with the end of his own with M’gann who has left Earth.

Then, there is Snapper Carr (Ian Gomez). Having a relationship with a prickly pear might be easier than pleasing him.

Relationships are not alway easy, but the ones that seem complicated are often worth the effort.

Guest starring tonight on SUPERGIRL are Andrea Brooks, Robert Zen Humpage, Damian Mavis, Angelo Renai and Desiree Zurowski.

SUPERGIRL airs tonight (February 13) at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW in the U.S. and on Showcase in Canada.
