CHICAGO FIRE Sneak Peek: Floaters Brought in Spell Danger for All

Boden comes under fire on this week’s CHICAGO FIRE. While meeting with the higher-ups about a re-assignment of one of his own firefighters, he gives an impassioned speech defending Squad 51’s ability to save the lives of Chicago citizens. Unfortunately, this monologue is interrupted when Jim (Deputy District Chief) storms in to put a stop to the protection attempt being made by Boden. Instead, a somewhat veiled threat is made that if Boden, or anyone on the panel, disagrees with how the District is being run, they can take it up with the boss.

In light of the re-assignments that Boden was trying to prevent, a training exercise with some new members proves less-than-stellar in the eyes of the seasoned lieutenants. What are known as “floaters” — or firefighters who are unable to find a permanent house — join the team (hopefully temporarily). But, on a cold winter day while training outside, one decides to quit and go in for soup, another complains to Casey about being a floater, while a third drops a practice dummy from a two story window. None of this bodes well for the team dynamic, or, much more seriously, the lives of Chicago citizens they are sworn to protect.
