THE GOOD PLACE: First Look at Season 2

THE GOOD PLACE delighted critics and fans when it premiered last year and now the series, starring Kristen Bell, will be returning for a second season. THE GOOD PLACE ended last year with Bell’s character, Eleanor, realizing that “The Good Place” had actually been “The Bad Place” all along, and she and her friends were all being subtly tortured by Michael (Ted Danson), who they had believed was good. His evil plan discovered, Michael reset the memories of Eleanor and her friends in an attempt to start his ruse all over again and get it right. But Eleanor managed to leave herself a note, saying “find Chidi”.

The second season begins with “what does Eleanor do with that clue [she left herself]?” according to Kristen Bell.

Kristen Bell says that the second season has “a lot more Michael in it”. And now we’ll see “Michael behind the curtain”, Ted Danson (Michael) teased, showing us a “very complicated demon”. The “perspective has shifted” in season 2 according to Bell, allowing fans to see “a lot more of the inside secrets on the show”, which indicates that we’ll get more of a sense of what’s happening behind the scenes in the Bad Place. We’re also going to be introduced to new characters and get a broader sense of the characters we know and love from season 1, Manny Jacinto (Jason/Jianyu) says. In season 2, the creator gets to “let loose”, according to D’Arcy Carden (Janet). If season 1 was all about establishing the world of THE GOOD PLACE, season 2 is about the writers “digging into the world”.

In a new clip from the season 2 premiere we get a true sense of Michael’s subterfuge in the fake Good Place neighborhood. After resetting the timeline we see him talking with the inhabitants of his neighborhood, all of whom are demons, and encouraging them to try again.

THE GOOD PLACE returns for an all new season with a one-hour premiere on September 20 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The show will then move to its regular timeslot on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. beginning on September 28.
