SUPERGIRL Preview: Andrew Kreisberg Talks Reign, Mon-El’s Return and Lena Luthor

SUPERGIRL left us completely heartbroken in the season 2 finale. Facing such a tragic obstacle — I will not call it an end, because Karamel is still very much alive, thank you very much — has obviously shattered Kara’s heart, and it seems that now she is all business and no play.

From the few promos and tidbits we have heard since the SUPERGIRL cast and producers attended SDCC this past July, Kara is going to deal with her heartbreak like a lot of people do — by throwing herself into her work. It looks like Supergirl will take center stage and Kara will be left behind, but for how long? One of the things I love most about Kara is that she has this beautiful compassion and humanity about her — even though she’s an alien — and I absolutely doubt she will be able to be all work and nerves of steel for very long.

The CW has recently released a very interesting behind the scenes look at season 3, and showrunner, Andrew Kreisberg, had a lot to say about the upcoming season.

First and foremost, we will definitely find out what happened to Mon-El. We can only hope that it’s something that happens sooner rather than later, because our hearts just can’t take seeing Kara suffer. Please don’t make us wait an entire season to see Mon-El again, TPTB. Please.

Kreisberg also talked about the new big bad for season 3, and how she is going to make Supergirl’s life hell. Odette Annable will play worldkiller Reign, a very famous DC villain that has comic book fans already super excited about. “Reign is a villain unlike anything we’ve done in Supergirl or Arrow or Legends or Flash. I couldn’t be more excited”, Kreisberg teased.

When asked about any surprising pairings from last season, in terms of chemistry, he mentioned that they were very pleasantly surprised by how well Lena Luthor was received. “Katie (McGrath) came in and made Lena so much her own, and turned her into her own iconic character before our eyes,” He commented. “Watching her relationship with Kara grow, which is actually going to be one of the center pieces this season, so we’re very excited that Katie came in our world.”

According to the showrunner, season 3 will also focus on female friendship, which we couldn’t be more excited about. Last year we had Kara and Lena’s friendship, and her friendship with Alex and Maggie, but Kreisberg says that we will see all of these badass ladies come together this season. “They can all be friends. This year will be about bringing everyone together and watching everyone ping pong off  of each other”, he said.

So place your bets, SUPERGIRL fans! How long will we have to wait to see Mon-El again? How bad can this Reign chick really be? Will Lena finally find out that Kara is Supergirl? Sound off in the comments below and check out the behind the scenes video right here:

SUPERGIRL season 3 premieres on Monday, October 9, at 8/7c on The CW.
