WISDOM OF THE CROWD: Crowdsourcing Justice in CBS’s New High-Tech Drama

Jeffrey Tanner (Jeremy Piven) is an incredibly wealthy technology entrepreneur who lives in Silicon Valley. But all of his wealth couldn’t protect him from the murder of his only daughter, Mia.

One year later, Jeffrey unveils something incredible he has been working on: “Sophe”, an online platform for publicity sharing information and evidence to solve his daughter’s murder. While Mia’s alleged killer had been caught, Jeffrey is convinced that the man is innocent and he’s determined to use Sophe to prove that “the crowd” can share and put together information without being bound by the limits of the justice system.

Jeffrey recruits Det. Tommy Cavanaugh, the original cop who investigated the murder but was unceremoniously forced off the case, and introduces him to his latest invention. Tommy doesn’t believe that Sophe can truly be useful — not to mention it has the potential to invade the privacy of people. But a video that someone submits to Sophe actually leads the team to another crime. And while Jeffrey still wants to focus on finding Mia’s real killer, his chief engineer Sara Morton convinces him that they need to use Sophe for the good of everyone.

WIDSOM OF THE CROWD premieres tonight (October 1) at 8:30 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. PT on CBS.
