SUPERGIRL: The Cast Teases the Return of Mon-El and the Arrival of the Legion of Super-Heroes

Kara has been grieving the loss of Mon-El when he was forced to leave Earth at the end of season 2 of SUPERGIRL. She was afraid that something terrible may have happened to him, but in this week’s episode he’ll be returning. Unfortunately, he’s not alone.

Winn and the team learn that an alien ship has crash landed deep underwater beneath National City. When Kara goes to investigate, she realizes that Mon-El is inside the ship, and he’s not alone. During a visit to the set of SUPERGIRL, the cast spoke to a group of reporters about Mon-El’s return and the arrival of the Legion of Super-Heroes — a group that Mon-El joined after he left Earth.

Mon-El’s return is “pretty mysterious,” Melissa Benoist (Kara/Supergirl) teased. “I think this season, we’ve really delved into a different tone, a different atmosphere for Kara. She’s really figuring out how to own her alien-ness, if you will, and in turn I think she’s finding her womanhood at the same time through grief and that grief is apparent even in the coloring of the show, so I think it won’t be the reunion you expect.”

As for the introduction of the Legion itself, Benoist said “I don’t want to tease too much, but the fact that the Legion is coming to the show has such a hold in the comic book world, especially with Superman — Martian Manhunter, specifically. That’s really exciting for us. For Kara, it’s a brand new set of problems that you’ll see pretty quickly.”

While it’s understandable that Kara might allow her emotions to overcome any doubts about Mon-El’s return, Alex will be much more skeptical of it. Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers) hinted that “There’s a skepticism [with Alex], you know what I mean? After all that time, you can kind of really figure out and understand what happened with Mon-El and the time that’s passed and sort of what that looks like. It’s not an easy pill to swallow no matter what, and for Alex…Alex is always going to be protective of her sister. They’re trying to really wrap their minds around what that looks like. And with the Legion coming in, it’s sort of like you never have a down moment or a dull moment.”

Don’t miss an all new episode of SUPERGIRL tonight (November 20) at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
