CLOVERFIELD Prequel Film Coming to Netflix After the Super Bowl

Ten years ago JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot company dropped a surprise trailer for a film no one had ever heard of called CLOVERFIELD. The film focused on Rob, a young man heading off to Japan for work, who dropped by a goodbye party thrown by his friends. Unfortunately, a giant monster attacked New York City, causing a great deal of death and mayhem.

Then, years later, 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE was released. It wasn’t a direct sequel, but was said to exist in the CLOVERFIELD “universe”. In that film a young women got into a car accident and woke up after being brought into a bunker by an older man (played by John Goodman). He was convinced something terrible had happened top-side and while she eventually escaped, she realized that some alien creatures had, indeed, come to earth.

The third film in the series has been rumored for release for a long time. But then, out of nowhere, Netflix released a teaser (which you can view below) that the entire film would actually drop tonight after the Super Bowl. THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX stars Daniel Brühl, Roger Davies, Elizabeth Debicki, Aksel Hennie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd, John Ortiz, David Oyelowo, and Zhang Ziyi. The short synopsis for the film reveals the following: “In the near future, a group of international astronauts on a space station are working to solve a massive energy crisis on Earth. The experimental technology aboard the station has an unexpected result, leaving the team isolated and fighting for their survival.” And the teaser below hints that the movie will explain how the giant monster found its way to NYC in the first film.
