iZOMBIE: The Cast Teases Upcoming Brains, Ravi & Peyton’s Relationship and More

Season 4 of iZOMBIE has introduced us to life in New Seattle — a place where zombies live out in the open and humans are trying to adjust to their new reality (along with some zombies who are experiencing hunger as a result of lack of brains).

Speaking of brains, watching Rose McIver play a new character on iZOMBIE each week is one of the best parts of the show and she always rises to the challenge. During a recent visit to the set, the cast teased some upcoming brains for Liv and Major and gave us a little update on Ravi and Peyton’s relationship.

Dowagers, Hockey Players & Wrestlers, Oh My! Tonight’s episode features Liv on “dowager” brain, which leads to a lot of bitchiness on her part and her friends aren’t happy about her attitude of looking down on others. Other upcoming brains include Liv being “a hockey goon. That was really fun. I hadn’t picked up ice skates since I was 14,” Rose McIver told us. We’ll also see that Liv has to eat the brain of someone who frequents renaissance fairs and someone obsessed with “rom-coms”. In fact, that brain was so good, Ravi Kohli said, that it will take place over a two episodes.

In addition, Robert Buckley hinted that “They gave me another fun brain. Like, particularly fun. Which is, I ate the brain of a professional wrestler and I swung for the fences on this one. I tried to even go bigger than [the] tenage girl brain [from last season].” However, Buckley hinted that Liv and Major won’t be sharing brains this year: “Do [Liv and Major] share brains? No, not in the same way [as the Dad & daughter brains from last season]. Although you will have the interaction of like, when I’m on wrestler brain, she’s on rom-com brain. So when she’s having her Truly Madly Deeply moments, I’m screaming at the top of my lungs and gesticulating loudly. So they definitely pair brains but we didn’t actually dine together off brains that know each other.

An upcoming episode later on in the season features Liv eating the brains of a rapper. “Rose has her work cut out for her because they don’t shy away from letting her be a rapper. But it’s Rose. I’m actually really excited for that because when I read it, my first thought was ‘Oh, I’m so glad I’m not the one having to do this brain’. Just because I’m innately lazy. But that was so exciting because Rose crushes it. I mean we’ve seen 3 years now and every week a new crazy brain [has been served up] and she always delivers,” Buckley said. “I’ve seen Rose do a little bit of rap at karaoke and she’s kind of a beast. She’s got skills, so I think she’ll crush it.”

Despite a growing zombie population in the city, McIver clarified that Liv (and sometimes Major) will be the primary people consuming brains and taking on personality traits. “What is worth remembering is that the majority of the zombie population are fed by brain tubes from Fillmore-Graves, so they aren’t operating on different people’s personalities because when you eat a brain tube, it null and voids that. So there are still certain people eating brains for certain reasons, eating whole brains, and they take on personalities, but not everybody’s used to that or knows what it means, so Liv is one of those people who still takes on the characteristics and we do see her come up against other zombies who don’t think that’s the norm either, or that that should be the norm.”

Peyton and Ravi. The season 4 premiere of iZOMBIE revealed that Peyton is dating someone new — a fellow prosecutor — and it’s been a while since she and Ravi dated. But Aly Michalka said “Ravi’s not too stoaked [Peyton’s new relationship]. He’s kind of jealous and thinks the guy’s not nearly as interesting as he should be. So yeah there’s some interesting conflict between her and Ravi in the very beginning of our season. But we don’t know if that relationship lasts forever, so there’s hope that maybe there could be a rekindling with Peyton and Ravi. I think we’re dead in the water with Peyton and Blaine, but yeah, what can you do?”

About a possible reconciliation between Peyton and Ravi, Michalka went on to say “I think they’re on good terms as in they can be friendly, they can be in the same room, it’s not that hard for her. But I think ultimately they still have feelings that they have each harbored for each other and neither of them are really ready to make that first step back to possibly dating again. So it’s kind of like a ‘who’s going to make this first initial reach out on their part?’, and you’ll see as we get further in the season who does.”

The Gospel According to Angus. At the end of the season premiere we saw Angus escape from his well prison (where Blaine had trapped him) and then seemingly take over a church. David Anders warned that Angus is “out of the well for many episodes before Blaine is aware of it. [Angus becomes a ] a spiritual healer. It becomes this bit of gospel that [Angus] accrues this huge following of zombies that become somewhat of an army, essentially.”

Buckley also hinted that Angus will eventually cross paths with Fillmore Graves. “I can’t go much further than that. But it’s Angus, come on, man. He’s not gonna just be passive and dull and friendly. His character arc is fantastic and [Robert] nepper absolutely kills it. I’m excited for you all to see that. That was the story I didn’t know was coming so I also didn’t really know what to expect and it’s so good. It’s fantastic. ”

Don’t miss a new episode of iZOMBIE tonight (March 5) at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
