NCIS Sneak Peek: A-Pickin’ And A-Grinnin’

Sometimes, an episode description jumps off the page and makes a sneak peek easy to write. Such is tonight’s NCIS episode, “One Man’s Trash.”

Those who delight in buying a well-worn piece of furniture at a basement auction and finding a claw-foot buffet under 7 coats of paint know that incredible feeling of finding “buried treasure.” Then, there people like my friend, Susan, who think that antiques carry the bad vibes of previous owners and studiously avoid auctions, used furniture and thrift shops.

The folks in “Group 1” are probably fans of the History Channel series, AMERICAN PICKERS. AMERICAN PICKERS’s concept is summed up in its intro…

“I’m Mike Wolfe. And I’m Frank Fritz. And we’re pickers. We travel the back roads of America looking to buy rusty gold. We’re looking for amazing things buried in people’s garages and barns. What most people see as junk, we see as dollar signs. We’ll buy “anything” we think we can make a buck on. Each item we pick has a history all its own. And the people we meet? Well, they’re a breed all their own. We make a living telling the history of America…one piece at a time.”

Appearing as himself, guest star Mike Wolfe brings a slice of AMERICAN PICKERS to NCIS when a murder weapon from a 16-year-old cold case surfaces. Several years ago, the Pickers acquired a ceremonial Viking war stick adopted by an obscure fraternal organization in the 1800s, which supposedly holds mystical powers and brings good luck. Wolfe believes that the stick has brought luck to his team.

Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Ducky (David McCallum) spot the lucky totem and recognize the “war stick” that drove a wooden spike into the skull of a petty officer almost two decades ago. (That probably puts Gibbs, Ducky and Wolfe into Group #1 and the petty officer in Group #2.)

Flanked by his new graduate assistant, Forensic Scientist Kasie Hines, (guest star Diona Reasonover), Ducky returns to NCIS to help with the case. The effusive Kasie starts her first day with the team by hugging Gibbs. Time will tell if that is her first mistake. For the friends who received antique carnival glass from me for Christmas, I do not believe any piece was ever involved in a murder. But then, there is that phrase “haunted treasure.” By the way, I gave Susan a squeaky toy for her dog, Daisy. No antiques.

Because dead men tell no tales, except to NCIS.

Guest stars in “One Man’s Trash” include Kamal Angelo Bolden, Alyson Reed, Leonard Kelly-Young, Clark Freeman, Shireen Crutchfield, Ana Rey and Clint Culp. “One Man’s Trash was written by Scott Williams and directed by Michael Zinberg.

NCIS airs tonight (March 13) on CBS in the U.S. and on Global TV in Canada at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
