If you are reading this, then we know you are gone. We will miss you terribly. We’ll miss your smile, your pigtails and the way you always help people…
…like the time when you went to Mexico at the request of Mexican Department of Justice official Alejandro Rivera (guest star Marco Sanchez) to investigate a cold case. That cold case landed you in the middle of a crisis involving secrets and lies and a deadly drug cartel.
When you found out that Rivera’s sister was drug lord Paloma Reynosa and his dad was murderer, Pedro Hernandez, and that papa Pedro killed Gibbs’s (Mark Harmon) wife and daughter, you were caught in a vicious spider web. That web tangled tighter when NCIS deceived Alejandro and he killed his own sister. It appeared the cold case had concluded. But it seems that some cold cases just won’t die.
Last week, when what appeared to be a random mugging morphed into you being shot, the NCIS team was blissfully unaware of the tragedy it was about to face. Tonight, evidence is uncovered that the shooter is a hitman tied to a cold case, and the motive is vengeance.

What better way for someone to exact revenge on Gibbs than to take away the woman that he loves like a daughter? Or on the agents who love you like a sister? There is nobody better at solving a cold case than you, Abby, but you won’t be there to help the team. How will they work, burdened with grief, fearing they let you down. Which old ghost has returned to haunt them?
Who holds such a grudge that he is willing to take you from them…and us?
So, dear Abby, whether you are leaving NCIS for Heaven or an earthly destination, I will be sitting here in my NCIS t-shirt with a box of tissues, with Mr. Sciuto (my husband, not yours) and our rescue kittens, as we all mourn your departure from one of the best series ever in TV history.
And Abby, when you see Pauley Perrette, thank her for 15 years of wonderful television.

Guest stars Joe Spano and Laura San Giacomo return as Tobias Fornell and Dr. Grace Confalone, and rumor has it that Sanchez may return as Rivera.
Tonight’s episode, “Two Steps Back,” marks original cast member Perrette’s departure from the show and was written by Jennifer Corbett and directed by Michael Zinberg.
