THE RED LINE: First Look at CBS’ New Mini-Series Drama

THE RED LINE, from uber producer Greg Berlanti, tells the story of three families connected by the same tragedy. The eight episode series takes place in Chicago, where Daniel Calder is a high school history teacher mourning the death of his husband, an African American doctor who was mistakenly shot by a white cop after a robbery he didn’t commit. Their daughter, Jira Calder-Brennan, is grieving as well and she starts to butt heads with her father when she decides to search for her birth mother against his wishes. On the opposite side of the city, Tia Young tries to figure out if she should run for alderman after the news of the shooting and whether she should reconnect with the daughter she gave up for adoption as a teenager. Then there’s Paul Evans, the officer who is horrified that he shot an innocent man and is conflicted about the legal and political fallout from the event. CBS says that “as the stories of the Calder, Young and Evans families converge, a positive message surfaces: it’s possible to emerge from tragedy stronger than before, and it’s important to come together with others, not just to survive, but to thrive.”

THE RED LINE premieres on Sunday, April 38 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
