Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Questions with NightTalk star Al Mukadam

You just wrapped shooting the indie movie, NightTalk, can you tell us what it’s about and your character? Also, any relation to Bob Segar’s classic song, Night Moves?
AM: That’s funny, we’d sing that on set all the time. Well I did. Poorly. Ah, sadly no relation to the song. It’s a thriller about a murder at the center of a sex chat line and I play a guy who goes on the line and is potentially the murderer or maybe a good guy…who knows.

2. Very saucy. Beyond the chat line stuff, are there any actual sexual scenes?
AM: I mean, yeah, it’s a movie about sex. And the different kinds of sexual roles people want and need. How something like a chat line allows people that safety net to explore those things in themselves and others. The script did a really good job at having a serious take on that. Then we had a great set environment that felt safe and comfortable to play out those more sexual scenes.

3. Were those scenes ever weird or awkward? Be honest!
AM: They for sure could have been! But no, like I said, we had an amazing set. My acting partner and the lead was Ashley Bryant, who was great – talented, professional and someone who had my back in the trenches like. We became solid buddies. Also, I had a LOT of crunches in preparation for those scenes.

3. The movie was directed by veteran director, Don Shebib, what was it like working with him?
AM: The guy’s a legend. His first movie, Goin Down the Road in 1970 was this raw indie that basically helped establish Canada’s movie industry. But yeah, he’s so smart and cool and great with actors. It was awesome to just be in one of his movies and collaborate with a true master of the craft.

4. The movie was also executive produced by his son and superstar music producer to Drake and many others, Noah “40” Shebib, will he be involved musically at all?
AM: That would be amazing! Who knows. I’m sure he’ll want to get involved musically in some way. The guy’s a genius, he can’t help himself. We did record some audio lines for the movie in his studio which was so damn cool.

5. When will NightTalk be premiering and what do you have coming up next?
AM: Probably sometime in 2020…If I had to guess, probably a TIFF premiere. Which would be a lot of fun. What’s next for me? Just back to the grind. Pilot season in LA, which is it’s own crazy ride. But all this serious stuff has made me want to get back to my comedy roots. I feel more comfortable there than having to show my bare butt, y’know?!
