Could Martin Compston Be in the Running to Be the Next James Bond?

With the question of who will take over the role of James Bond from Daniel Craig looming in many film buff’s minds, there are more names being thrown into the mix. One such name that has emerged recently is that of Scottish actor Martin Compston. Has he got what it takes to take on the role of 007?

About Compston

Compston was born in Greenock, Scotland, in 1984. He had a short career as a professional footballer before making a change to the world of acting. His debut role in Ken Loach’s Sweet Sixteen was critically acclaimed.

He then went on to appear in several other tv shows and films, including Monarch of the Glen and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. These roles earned him a scattering of prizes and nominations and helped to cement him as a credible actor capable of taking on a variety of different roles.

Line of Duty

Through these roles, Compston proved himself to be a varied actor who achieved a good level of recognisability with both a home UK audience and an international one. However, it would be his role as Steve Arnott in the BBC crime drama Line of Duty that caused him to gain a new raft of attention from many quarters.

Through Arnott, we have seen Compston take on many of the qualities that we have seen from previous Bond actors. He is able to deliver a fine dramatic performance, and Arnott has been through many different scenarios which have allowed Compston to fully deliver as an actor. While the nearest most of us get to Bond is watching the films and checking out some games at places like casino.netbet.co.uk, Compston could be in a good position to tackle the role.

The Next Bond

Trying to pinpoint precisely who the producers might choose is always going to be difficult. However, there is a desire from fans to see the role return to a Scot, especially since the character is half Scottish and the only Scot to play him so far has been Sean Connery.

Due to this, other Scottish names like Outlander star Sam Heughan can be found in discussions about who could be stepping into Bond’s shoes. However, Compston could be a great fit even if the producers do not want to portray Bond as Scottish again simply due to his mastery over his accent. Despite naturally having a very thick Scottish accent, he is able to eliminate it entirely depending on his role. Those who have only ever seen him in Line of Duty often remark with surprise when they hear his true accent!

There are so many in contention for the role of Bond, and Compston is just the latest name we have seen in consideration. Film buffs and 007 fans alike will just have to sit tight and hope that the producers are able to find the right person for the job – as they have done many times before.
