The Five Best Romantic Films on Netflix

Watch These Five Romance Movies on Netflix

The enjoyment of watching a thriller or action movie is undeniable, as you get to experience the thrills and spills the main characters are going through.

Period dramas can transport you to another world, while Oscar contenders often tackle tough subject matters and feature the best performances of the year.

There are times, however, when a romantic comedy may be what you want to entertain yourself with. Aside from reading up on romantic weekend ideas for you and your spouse, such as visiting a new restaurant or having a picnic in a park, you may want to find a few charming movies to watch this weekend.

Romantic comedies are some of the most enjoyable movies to experience, especially with your partner. The way the main characters meet, how their love evolves and how most of the movies have happy endings can be extremely uplifting.

With that in mind, we have put together a list of our top five romance movies that are streaming on Netflix in 2023.

1. Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)

More of a mystery with romance than a romantic comedy, Where The Crawdads Sing, released in 2022, is still worth a watch if you want to find a great movie to stream on Netflix. The film features Daisy Edgar-Jones in the primary role.

Edgar-Jones plays a girl called Kya, who raises herself in the marshlands of North Carolina. While she is initially embraced by the local community, suspicion falls on her when a prominent local is found dead. Many in the community believe she seduced and then murdered the man, which puts a target on her back.

The movie explores the lives of its cast while showing audiences what really happened to the town’s golden boy Chase.

2. Holidate (2020)

Featuring equal parts charming and hilarious performances from Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey, Holidate is a movie well worth your time. A classic rom-com that features two people who could never imagine being together.

The movie showcases the pressures that single people can feel, especially as they enter their 30s, and feel as if they are being left behind as everyone around them gets married and starts a family.

While some of the plot points do include cliches, the characters are interesting enough and the performances charming enough that you easily let them slide. Kristin Chenoweth and Frances Fisher are also excellent in this film.

3. Good on Paper

Good on Paper came out in 2021 on Netflix and was an instant hit with streaming audiences. Featuring Iliza Shlesinger, Ryan Hansen, Margaret Cho and Britney Young in the primary roles, the movie follows a group of young people who are trying to find their place in the world.

The main character is a young woman who has spent the past decade putting her career first. Now she is ready to find love and happens to meet a charming comic for the first time. He is pleasant, successful and a lot of fun. But is there more than meets the eye?

If you are a fan of romantic comedies that have a mystery element, you will have a lot of fun with Good on Paper.

4. Grease (1978)

An absolute classic that features performances by two of the most well-regarded actors of their generation, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The duo is outstanding as Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson, the titular characters of the movie.

The two main characters fall in love in the summer of 1958, even though they have significant differences from each other. Zuko is a greaser, while Olsson is as preppy as you can get. While their attraction and coupling may not appear obvious at first, audiences soon realize why they are so in love with each other.

The movie features a fantastic cast that supplements Travolta and Newton-John, while its soundtrack is fantastic. If you have never seen Grease, you owe it to yourself to experience this generational movie at least one time.
