Netflix Rush to Compete with Amazon By Launching Geek Week

September 10, 2024 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

Netflix has been heavily investing in their new gaming platform for quite some time now. They have been promoting new titles while working on a set of exclusives. Interestingly enough, they have also announced their new Geeked Week festivities. The company has said that this is a collection of games that have been chosen by geeks, to celebrate different gaming genres from over the years.

Netflix and their Gaming Journey

Netflix has been trying to do everything it can to compete with the densely populated gaming market for quite some time. With that being said, there are some sectors that they have yet to explore. One of them would be casino games. The company is showing no indication that they are going to be investing in real-money games, even though there is a big market for them. A lot of this comes down to the sheer competition that there is already, from several established companies. On top of this, when you play games like Plinko Go for real money, you need to make deposits to an online account, with payout terms and numerous safety precautions in place to protect player data.

There’s also the concept of bonuses, which would probably be too much of an undertaking for the company right now. With that being said, they are looking to diversify by offering certain promotions for games. You have Geeked Week for example, which is set to start in mid-September. The trailer has just been dropped and it teases several titles, including some favorites. You have titles like Squid Game and you also have One Piece. They have also showcased several new projects, which fans of the streaming service are bound to be excited about.

Netflix are Racing to Compete with Amazon

Netflix has timed the release of its Geeked Week promotion very well. Amazon has made some pretty big announcements lately and they have also dropped several new shoes. They have announced that The Boys is going to return for season five and they have also started to release episodes for Rings of Power. Although the TV show has received negative reviews from devoted Lord of the Rings fans, the show still sees millions of people tune in. You also have YouTubers who dedicate episodes of their show to breaking down the various events that happen in the series. One of them is one by YouTube star the Critical Drinker. Of course, with Amazon gaining so much hype over highly anticipated shows, it’s no surprise that Netflix is trying to maintain its edge by pushing its gaming angle.

Even though Amazon does have their own Amazon Games category, it seems that it is not being as heavily invested in. They do have exclusives but they are not based on TV shows and don’t seem to be as much of a hit with fans.

In conclusion, the battle of the streaming giants can only mean good things for fans, as it means new content, better games, and ultimately, a more fan-focused experience.
