Tuesday’s Olympic competition features four swimming finals, and Michael Phelps contends for gold in two of them. First, the 200m fly, then the 4x200m free relay. By the end of the Beijing Games, the 23-year-old Maryland native could become one of the all-time most decorated Olympians. Katie Hoff, a product of the same Baltimore-area pool that produced Phelps, also has medal chances, in the 200m free and 200m IM. In the women’s gymnastics team final, highly talented teenagers Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin lead the reigning world champion U.S. contingent against formidable China, among others.
