Tonight’s TV Addictions: January 13, 2009

January 13, 2009 By theTVaddict 6 Comments

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
AMERICAN IDOL (8PM FOX, CTV in Canada)
Returning for its eight season, the reality TV juggernaut promises big changes. Will new judge Kara DioGuardi be enough to stem the rating slide? Will this be the season that Simon and Ryan Paula finally acknowledge all that pent up sexual tension? Will Randy have expanded his vocabulary passed “Dawg?” Will somebody pleeeaaasseeee wake us up when the contestants get to Hollywood.

90210 (8PM CW, 9PM Global in Canada)
Tabitha buys Annie and Dixon a brand new car without asking their mom for permission. Asking their mom for permission? How about asking us? Because there is no way all of Shenae Grimes off-screen antics warrant a new car. We’re just sayin’

LAW & ORDER: SVU (10PM NBC, CTV in Canada)
One dead teenager! Sex trafficking! Prostitution rings! Geez…. could SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT be anymore of a downer?

SCRUBS (9PM ABC, CityTV in Canada)
Carla wants to teach a self-centered intern a lesson in humility. Hey, maybe that whole crossover with GREY’S ANATOMY that I suggested last week is coming to pass! In other news, Kelso and Cox team up to try and get rid of Dr. Maddox… and seeing as she’s portrayed by Courtney Cox, who only signed on for a three-episode arc, we’re betting his chances of success are pretty decent — CT

NEW & NOTABLE:
HOMELAND SECURITY (8PM ABC)
In Detroit, a guy is questioned about having handguns and a human skull in his van. But it’ll probably all make a lot more sense to the officers when they discover he’s from Tennessee. — CT

THE MENTALIST (9PM CBS)
I’ll admit to not being a big fan of non-LAW & ORDER procedurals. But since this episode involves a witch claiming to have used her powers on a football player who killed her cat, I might have to give this one a try. After all, 20 million viewers can’t be wrong, right? (Unless we factor in AMERICAN IDOL, of course.) — CT

PRIVILEGED (9PM CW, 8PM CityTV in Canada)
This outing is titled “All About Tough Love” but it might as well be called “(Almost) All About Lily” as the jailed troublemaker deals with the consequences of having drugs found in her hotel room. In other news, Sage buys a gift for Luis (played by Ignacio Serrano — best known to most for his stint as GENERAL HOSPITAL’s text-message killer, Diego), who doesn’t have quite the reaction she’d hoped for. — CT

NIP/TUCK (10PM FX)
Sean’s health problems draw him closer to Liz. Okay, read that again with porn music in your head an an emphasis on the word “closer.” Is Liz — you know, the out and proud lesbian — really going to prove that there’s a fine line between love and hate, or at least lust and loathing? Shark alert! — CT

GENERAL HOSPITAL (10PM SOAPnet)
Apparently not realizing that in Port Charles, only the good die young (Georgie, Emily, etc.), Claudia urges Sonny to do away with his former right-hand-man, Jason. Chances of that actually happening are right up there with a cop in this town actually making charges against a mobster stick. — CT
