ARROW Preview: Dare To Demolish

February 17, 2016 By Melissa Smith Leave a Comment

Arrow Spartan Speedy Photo s4e14 414 Code of Silence

Now that Nyssa has disbanded the League of Assassins and Malcolm is unemployed, it would be nice if Team Arrow could get on with the business of planning Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) and Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) wedding.

Yeah, like that is going to happen…

For one thing, Oliver still has not told Felicity he has a son.  Really, Ollie?  Because keeping secrets from Felicity has worked out so well for you in the past?

Another romance possibly headed for the rocks?  Quentin (Paul Blackthorn) and Donna (guest star Charlotte Ross).  Captain Lance is worried that HIVE’s next attack may leave his new ladylove as collateral damage.

Arrow Donna Felicity Thea Oliver Photo s4e14 414 Code of Silence

Seriously, never take romance tips from the Smoak women.  They may know how to pick’em, but their men come with a lot of issues (The Calculator, anyone?).

And what of HIVE?  Well, looks like Damien Dahrk (guest star Neal McDonough) may have hired the Demolition Team from the Green Lantern canon.  Guest star, Rachel Luttrell (whose dad is from Louisiana) will be playing Rosie, the leader of the Demolition Team, who also is from Louisiana.

Arrow Rosie Photo s4e14 414 Code of Silence

Rosie used to own a bar in New Orleans and her weapon of choice generally is a rapid-fire hot rivet gun (yes, kind of like Rosie the Riveter from World War II).

Other members of the Demolition Team who may appear on tonight’s episode, “Code of Silence,” include Hardhat (guest star Marc Trottier), Jackhammer, Scoopshovel and Steamroller.

These experts in precision demolition have been engaged by HIVE to bring down a building…the building in which Team ARROW happens to be.

Not content just with dropping a building on her opponent, Ruvé Adams, aka Dahrk’s wife, (guest star Janet Kidder) still seems to be planning to defeat Oliver’s bid for mayor.

Arrow Oliver and Ruve Photo s4e14 414 Code of Silence

What possibly could go wrong with this scenario?

ARROW also stars Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Willa Holland and John Barrowman.  Echo Kellum returns as Curtis Holt and Darren Matheson also guest stars.

“Code of Silence” was written by Executive Producer, Wendy Mericle, and Oscar Balderrama.  James Bamford directs.

ARROW airs on The CW (U.S) and on CTV (Canada) tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.

ARROW Sneak Peek: Daddy Issues

February 10, 2016 By Melissa Smith Leave a Comment

Arrow photo s4e13 413 Sins of the Father

Last week on ARROW, Thea’s returning bloodlust grew too much for her.  Her decision to internalize her need to take a life instead of killing someone became more than her body could sustain.

Oliver (Steven Amell) was going to make a deal with Damien Dahrk (Neil McDonough) whose magical powers seem to take away the bloodlust temporarily, but the meeting fell through.

Thea (Willow Holland) ended up in the hospital, comatose from the effects.

Malcolm (John Barrowman) offered to supply her with a local deviant to kill to alleviate the symptoms, but Thea (Willow Holland) refused to take another life.

Both in pain, Malcolm and Oliver seemed to overcome the chasm in their relationship and agreed to abide by Thea’s wishes.  For the first time in months, the two men seemed to have repaired their fractured friendship.

Enter Nyssa (Katrina Law) with a proposition for Oliver…kill Malcolm and give her the ring to ascend to the position as head of the League of Assassins.  In exchange, Nyssa will supply the cure for Thea’s bloodlust.

Tonight, Oliver is faced with how to respond to Nyssa’s offer.  With Thea having only a couple of days left before she dies, it is clear to Laurel (Katie Cassidy) that Malcolm is expendable.

For Laurel, the situation is win-win.  Save Thea and rid the world of the man who killed her sister and Tommy.

Oliver is not convinced.  Despite his low opinion of Malcolm, he knows that killing Thea’s father might save her physically, but destroy her emotionally.

To that end, Oliver suggests that Laurel negotiate with Nyssa while he talks to Malcolm.  If the ring is the only reason that Malcolm must die to save Thea, perhaps a compromise can be reached.

After all, Malcolm seems like he is willing to do anything to save his daughter, including giving up his position as head of the League.

While that seems simple, the situation could be more complicated.  Will a simple handover be possible, or must there be a battle to take the ring by force?

Thea will not be the only Star City resident tonight with daddy issues.  Charlotte Ross and Tom Amandes return as Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) parents.

ARROW also stars David Ramsey and Paul Blackthorne.  Colton Haynes is rumored (but not confirmed) to be making a visit as Roy Harper.

Tonight’s episode, “Sins of the Father” was written by producers Ben Sokolowski & Keto Shimizu and directed by Gordon Verheul.

ARROW airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW (U.S.) and CTV (Canada).

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS Recap: What Secret Is Aria Hiding?

January 19, 2016 By Clarissa Leave a Comment

pretty little liars

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS surprised fans by letting Charlotte go free and then killing her as the show time jumped five years into the future. Now the girls back in a familiar position: murder suspects. And so we pick up this episode soon after the events of last week, with the girls reeling from the murder and discussing it in the lobby of the Radley hotel.

Aria is eager to leave Rosewood, but the others caution her to stay. She’s insistent, however, saying that she can’t afford to lose her job. But before she heads off to the airport Hanna drops a bomb: she knows Aria left the hotel room the night before. Where did she go? Aria played the situation off, but it’s clear she’s hiding a secret. Later, she visits Ezra to tell him he needs to lie about them seeing each other the night Charlotte died.

Meanwhile, it’s clear that Charlotte’s death could be a problem for the Hastings family. Mrs. Hastings is convinced that her opponent is using Spencer’s connection to Charlotte to smear her family and her campaign. Spencer’s concerned that her presence in the campaign could hurt her mother’s chances, so she volunteers to miss her next interview. Back at the hotel, Hanna gets a nice surprise in the form of Jordan, her fiancé. He’s arrived bearing food from New York and the offer of a lawyer for Hanna’s next police interview.

At the police station, Lorenzo is telling Allison that Sara Harvey’s hand burns means she could not have committed the murder. Ali is disbelieving, but she tells Lorenzo that she doesn’t believe her friends killed Charlotte. Of course, things get strange when Spencer later tells Caleb that she wrote a paper from a criminology class that closely resembles Charlotte’s death. Is someone once again looking to frame the girls?

The next morning, Emily is undergoing some mysterious treatments at a doctor’s office. While she’s busy with that, Hanna and Spencer are meeting with Ali to discuss Charlotte’s death, Sara being removed from the suspect list and Aria bailing from Rosewood. And back at work, Aria reunites with her boyfriend/co-worker, Liam. But her boss is concerned about Ezra taking a break from writing and not delivering on his next book. Aria insists that she can get Ezra to start writing again and tells her boss not to send Liam to talk to Ezra instead of her.

Later that night, Ali hosts the remaining PLLs, Caleb and Jordan for dinner. Lorenzo calls Ali with news of Charlotte’s time of death and Ali recites a prayer for grace that clearly insinuates one of her friends may be guilty and the others may be covering for her. As a result, Hanna secretly tells Emily that Aria left the hotel the night of the death. And Aria isn’t the only PLL who is lying — Emily is covering up her medical appointments, lying to her friends about still being in school, and lying to her mother about her current job.

Enter Aria, who has returned to Rosewood to talk to Ezra about his second book. He hands over a USB stick with the book (which we later learn also contains information about Nicole’s disappearance) and she asks him where he went after they saw each other the night of Charlotte’s death. He tells her he went home, but it’s clear that she’s suspicious. At the hotel, Hanna, Emily and Spencer have dug up the security footage of Aria seeing Ezra the night Charlotte died. Since Aria got back after Charlotte’s murder her friends were suspicious. And when the girls confront Aria about that night, we get a flashback with Aria and Ezra. Apparently Aria had called Ezra to talk about the hearing and Charlotte’s release and as they roamed the streets they spotted Charlotte enter the church. Ezra seemed particularly upset about Charlotte walking free as Aria headed back to the hotel. Back in the present, Aria was forthcoming to her friends and told them she suspected Ezra was the killer.

The girls are concerned that Aria could be implicated in Charlotte’s death if Ezra was named a suspect, so Aria insists that they get rid of that security footage. Later, Emily visits her father’s grave to tell him about losing her scholarship and leaving school, but Sara Harvey stops by the cemetery and Emily bails.

In the end, Hanna deletes the security footage, while Ali calls Lorenzo to her house to tell him she suspects her friends could be responsible for Charlotte’s murder.

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS Winter Premiere Recap: Back to Rosewood for a New Mystery

January 12, 2016 By Clarissa Leave a Comment

pretty little liars

“A” was unmasked on the last summer finale of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS. And as one mystery came to a close, the girls left high school and Rosewood behind. Now, five years later, Alison is a teacher at her old school and she’s reaching out to her fellow PLLs to ask them for help with Charlotte. The girls are all returning to Rosewood to speak at Charlotte’s parole hearing, but are they willing to hear Ali out and speak in favor of her sister?

The four PLLs reunite at the local coffee house to catch up and drink lattes, gushing about Hanna’s impending wedding. Emily is lying about her current school status, but the conversation quickly turns to the upcoming hearing. Then Emily returns home (and we learn her father has passed away), while Hanna goes to visit her mother at Radley Sanitarium — which is now a restaurant, lounge and hotel managed by Ashley Marin.

At the Montgomery house, Aria’s father warns her that Ezra is back home and they discuss a mystery girl named Nicole. It sounds like Nicole — who was clearly close to Ezra — went missing (and possibly presumed dead) during a house-building mission in South America. Over at the Hastings’, Veronica is running for the Senate and we learn that she and her husband are still together.

Aria reunites with Ezra and they discuss Nicole, as well as his second book, which is supposed to be published by the publishing house Aria now works for. The reunions continue when Toby and Spencer meet up again (as he tries his hand at building a house). They discuss Charlotte’s hearing and he offers to buy her dinner before she leaves town — and she accepts. The girls finally reunite with Alison at the school and she’s trying to convince them that Charlotte has changed. But the girls can’t forget what “A”/Charlotte did and don’t seem eager to help Ali.

During a press conference for Veronica, Mona makes an appearance and we learn that she’s in Washington D.C. as well. Back at the Fields house, Emily and Toby are sharing a beer on the porch. He tells her that he was recently passed over for promotion and she reveals that college wasn’t what she thought it would be after her father’s death.

The next day, the girls and Ali are speaking to a judge about Charlotte’s release. Spencer is the first to give in to Ali’s wishes and say that Charlotte poses no threat to her and the other girls follow suit. Aria is slightly thrown off by Ezra’s appearance and she’s the first to break. Flashing back to everything “A” put them through, she tells the judge that she wouldn’t feel safe if Charlotte is released. Shockingly, though, Mona speaks in favor of Charlotte and asks the judge to let her go free.

Later, the girls reunite again at the Radley lounge and learn about Charlotte’s release. As they turn off their phones, they reminisce and discuss future plans. But Emily suggests they leave Charlotte and the past behind and move on. Of course, that’s all easier said than done as the camera ominously zooms in on a security camera trained on the girls.

The next morning, the girls are sleeping off their night of drinking in Hanna’s hotel suite. Ali calls in a panic and we get a quick flash at a variety of prescription drugs that Emily is hiding in her purse. Apparently Charlotte returned to the DiLaurentis house last night but now she’s gone. Alison asks if the PLLs can head over.

And here’s the shocker: Charlotte is dead! Her body was found in front of the church and it looks like she may have killed herself (although PRETTY LITTIE LIARS fans obviously know better). At the DiLaurentis house, Emily comforts a grieving Ali, while Caleb visits Hanna at her hotel room and reveals he may start working with Spencer’s company. He also tells her that he’ll be staying in Spencer’s barn, which makes Hanna feel awkward.

Charlotte’s funeral is a strange affair, made all the stranger with the appearance of Sara Harvey, who clearly makes the girls uncomfortable. After Sara departs, Lorenzo approaches the girls and asks if they’ll be staying in Rosewood. He reveals that Charlotte was dead when she was thrown from the bell tower and it’s clear that the girls are persons of interest in her murder.

Thus begins a new Rosewood mystery: who killed Charlotte? And who is targeting the PLLs now?

“A” was unmasked on the summer finale of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS and now the show is employing a time jump to move our characters through college and in to the adult world before it returns in January. We got a hint of what’s to come at the end of the summer finale, but when we return to Rosewood we’ll see that Charlotte could be released and Ali is asking her friends to help her get her sister out of the institution. But are the girls prepared to accept their old friend’s plea and forgive Charlotte for the years of torment she put them through?

New photos from the January premiere show us the girls testifying at Charlotte’s parole hearing, as well as catching up after they all return to town. But soon a terrifying new mystery will haunt them….

Meanwhile, if you want to get a sneak peek at what’s to come on PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, tune in to the “PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: Five Years Forward” special airing on Tuesday, November 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family. According to the network, “the special episode will reveal what the Liars have been up to inside and outside of Rosewood over the past five years. In addition to featuring conversations surrounding new careers and love interests, the episode will feature interviews with the team behind the Liars’ new looks. Fans will also be offered a glimpse at brand-new PLL sets and two new scenes that won’t be seen anywhere else. Plus, the PLL moms speculate about what happened to their characters after getting locked in the basement.”

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS returns with all new episodes on January 12 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Freeform (the new name for ABC Family).

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS Preview: It’s Happening Again

It took 130 episodes for “A” to be unmasked, but PRETTY LITTLE LIARS is far from over. When the show returns from its hiatus in January, we’re jumping ahead five years.

Based on glimpses into the “5 years forward” return, we know that the girls are being called back to Rosewood as Charlotte is up for release. Alison — now a teacher — is writing to each of her friends to ask them to be sympathetic to Charlotte, as she has become close to her sister in the last five years. But are the girls prepared to forgive Charlotte/”A” after all of the torment she put them through? And what about everything the girls have been up to in the meantime? “A lot has happened — good, bad, and ugly, but all of it was uncontaminated by ‘A'” teases Troian Bellisario.

New previews for the show’s return reveals that something new and even more twisted will be haunting the girls as they return to Rosewood. “This season’s just going to take everybody on a whole new ride. There’s a whole new set of problems that the girls are having to deal with,” says Shay Mitchell.

Don’t miss the winter premiere of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS on January 12 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family (which will then be called Freeform).
