An In Depth Look At… ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Wedding Shocker!

February 4, 2011 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

Two gorgeous sisters walking down the aisle to marry the men of their dreams… what could possibly go wrong? Um, pretty much everything. After all, we’re talking about ONE LIFE TO LIVE here, and that is a soap opera!

“In some ways,” says Soaps In Depth executive editor Richard M. Simms, “this wedding harkens back to the days of big, classic soap weddings. A gorgeous event, lots of secrets bubbling just beneath the surface and an underlying sense that what should be the happiest day in the lives of these couples is going to go tragically awry.”

For the uninitiated, the brides are sisters Natalie and Jessica, each of whom recently gave birth. So far, so good, right? Unfortunately, Natalie had a one-night stand with Jessica’s groom-to-be, Brody. And Jessica had a one-nighter with local himbo Ford while mistakenly believing herself to be a high-school student. (Don’t ask, just go with it.) Both ladies had paternity tests… and both of those tests were tampered with.

The 2011 Golden Globes: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

January 17, 2011 By theTVaddict 6 Comments

THE GOOD: In his second (and most likely final) outing as Golden Globes master of ceremonies, Ricky Gervais deflated Hollywood’s all-too-often air of self-importance with some truly fearless one-liners. No star was safe. Particularly if your name was Charlie Sheen (“Welcome to a night of partying and heavy drinking. Or as Charlie Sheen calls it: breakfast.”), were one of ladies of SEX AND THE CITY (“I was sure the award for best special effects would go to the team that airbrushed that poster.”) or two of Hollywood’s biggest names who, for fear of legal reprisal, shall remain nameless (“Also not nominated, I Love You Phillip Morris, with Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey, two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay — the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists then.”).

Also falling under the category of “good,” aside that is from much deserving wins for THE BIG BANG THEORY’s Jim Parsons and SONS OF ANARCHY star Katey Sagal were a handful of the speeches. Most notably, GLEE star Chris Colfer’s poignant shout out to all the kids that his hit series celebrates (“Who are constantly told “NO” by the people in their environments, by bullies at school that they can’t be who they are or have what they want because of who they are. Well, screw that, kids!”), Jane Lynch’s acknowledgment of the more-often-than-not overlooked reason she is on stage (“Every insane, heinous line that comes out of my mouth was written by him [GLEE writer Ian Brennan] He’s a deranged young man. This is yours, too, although I will be holding onto it.”), a bit of fatherly advice from The Social Network scribe Aaron Sorkin (“And I want to thank all the female nominees tonight for helping demonstrate to my young daughter that elite is not a bad word, it’s an aspirational one. Honey, look around, smart girls have more fun, and you’re one of them.”), and a usually demure Natalie Portman who applauded her fiancé (choreographer Benjamin Millepied) appearance in Black Swan (“It’s not true! He totally wants to sleep with me!”)

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Things You Didn’t Know About PRETTY LITTLE LIARS Star Ashley Benson

January 3, 2011 By theTVaddict 2 Comments

She’s still on the show.
For the seven or eight fans who spent the better part of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS’ hiatus fretting over whether or not Hanna survived last season’s not-so-fatal car crash that capped off the first half of ABC Family’s surprise summer smash, worry not. “The episode starts off with my character Hanna in the hospital after she’s gotten run over, and she wakes up and she’s still shaken after the whole thing and she doesn’t really remember what happened,” explained Ashely Benson. “But the pretty insane thing is that she remembers who she saw by the car and in the woods and who she thinks is ‘A.’ So, she tells the girls and it goes from there.”

She had no idea PRETTY LITTLE LIARS was going to be a hit.
Despite an already built in audience from the popular book series of the same name, and giddy network executives who had already proclaimed the show a success, Benson wasn’t nearly as confident. “Me and the other girls hoped for it, but you never know,” revealed the cautiously optimist actress. “So, we filmed the pilot and we waited to hear if it got picked up and it did, and once it started airing things just went out of control! It has been pretty amazing to be part of something that actually goes above and beyond everybody’s expectations, unreal really.”

SURVIVOR NICARAGUA Recap: Third Time’s The Charm

December 19, 2010 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

By: Josh Wigler

Throughout its 21 seasons on the air, SURVIVOR has always promoted three key components as the ticket to success: outwit, outplay and outlast. But where does outcharm fall on that spectrum? Because while he certainly outlasted the competition and there were moments where he outplayed his rivals, newly minted SURVIVOR champion Jud “Fabio” Birza was never exactly the brightest bulb in the bunch — but sometimes, all you need is a smile to get you on your way.

Before elaborating on the latest SURVIVOR winner’s victory, let’s talk about the other players who were in contention for the top prize in last night’s season finale…

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: TV Related Events We’re Counting Down To!

October 28, 2010 By theTVaddict 2 Comments

BIG LOVE’s Big Finish
Under normal circumstances, we wouldn’t be celebrating the cancelation of one of the most interesting and unique shows to hit the small screen in years. That said, there was very little normal about HBO’s BIG LOVE. So rather than wallow in today’s news that the cult HBO favorite will call it quits after it ends its fifth season which is scheduled to kick off this January 16, 2011, we’d rather look on the bright side and applaud HBO for giving co-creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer ample time to craft a proper send-off and celebrate the fact that Sheffer told E! Online that, “I think you’ll agree this is definitively our best season to date.”

An In Depth Look At… ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Most Explosive Week Ever!

October 15, 2010 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

To say that ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Starr and Cole have had a rough go of it would be an understatement akin to “McDonald’s occasionally sells a hamburger.” And now, the pair face their greatest challenge ever as Eli’s wicked plots comes to a head. Before all is said and done, the fate of the couple will be decided as death claims the life of someone in Llanview!

“There’ve been a lot of fake deaths in Llanview over the past few months, saysSoaps In Depth executive editor Richard M. Simms. “Eli and Téa, for starters. But this time, it’s real: Somebody is going to die.”

Certainly, there are no lack of potential casualties thanks to the fact that Dani, Téa, Starr and Hope are all being held hostage by Eli, whose plot is about to majorly derail. “There’s a bomb involved,” previews the editor. “And bombs on soaps are like secrets: Sooner or later, they explode. Every time.”

An In Depth Look At… GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Sexy Shake-Up!

September 17, 2010 By theTVaddict 7 Comments

If you can’t be with the one you love, we all know that the only option is, as the song advises, to love the one you’re with. And that’s exactly what GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Sonny does this week when, rejected by Brenda, he turns to Claire for a little hanky panky! Meanwhile, in Rome, Sam’s worst nightmare is coming true as Jason and Brenda hit the town together and the sparks fly!

“Brenda and Jason have a really fun relationship,” shares Soaps In Depth executive editor Richard M. Simms of the formerly-wed pair. “It’s definitely a love/hate thing, but not in the traditional sense. The love is more of a brother for his sister, and so is the hate. You know how you absolutely adore your sibling but, at the same time, they’re the person who can push your buttons better than anyone else? That’s what it’s like for Brenda and Jason.”

An In Depth Look At… James Franco’s Next Move!

July 26, 2010 By theTVaddict 1 Comment

Holy Francofrenia! At the end of Friday’s GENERAL HOSPITAL, it seemed Jason-lovin’, serial-killin’, performance art-creatin’ madman known as Franco had met his maker. But was he pushed by mancrush Jason? Did he jump? Or is there something more than anyone imagined going on?

“Franco’s whole exhibit was about blurring the lines between reality and fantasy,” says executive Soaps In Depth Richard M. Simms. “So it probably won’t come as a huge surprise to anyone that Franco’s not actually dead.” What may come as a surprise, however, is the next step in his fiendish plan.

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Reasons to Tune into Tonight’s Return of WHITE COLLAR

July 13, 2010 By theTVaddict 2 Comments

By: Vlada Gelman

Some shows have a great first season and then buckle under the pressure in season two. Other shows take the time between seasons to reflect and come back bigger and stronger in season two. Having watched the first two episodes of WHITE COLLAR’s new season, which premieres Tuesday, July 13, at 9 p.m. on USA Network, I’m happy to report that the series falls under the latter category. The writers have figured out what really works for the show (and what doesn’t) and have emphasized those elements. Here are just a couple of ways in which season two of WHITE COLLAR is better than season one (mild spoilers ahead):

Diana’s back!
As much as I loved Natalie Morales in The Middleman, she was sorely miscast as an FBI agent on WHITE COLLAR.  Morales has since departed WHITE COLLAR for NBC’s PARKS AND RECREATION (her departure will be explained in the season premiere), opening the door for Marsha Thomason’s welcome return as FBI Agent Diana.

“She’s a fantastic actress and gorgeous and so great to have on this show,” Matt Bomer (Neal) said of Thomason during a conference call.

Thomson is confident, smart and sexy in the role and clearly game for anything. Her return improves the show in two really big ways. Diana is critical to the ongoing mystery of the music box, adding clever twists to that storyline. She also opens up new and interesting sides of Peter and especially Neal in the second episode back. The two share a scene that is uncharacteristically soft and revealing and shows off a wonderful, new side of Neal’s character.
