Amrie’s Take on TV: THE TUDORS

March 27, 2007 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

the tudors

I’m not proud to say that the only thing I remember from European History in high school and college about Henry VIII is the fact that he married Anne Boleyn and that he fooled around with her sister Mary.

Maybe you’re like me. Maybe you only know that he had 6 wives, or you know that he liked to “take a mistress,” or you know that he had some illegitimate kids. Maybe that’s the only thing you know.

I’m happy to tell you that the minute details of his extraordinary early life are not required knowledge before you dive into the 10-part miniseries that explores the world of King Henry VIII.

Showtime was kind enough to send over the first 6 episodes of this amazing show and I’m indebted to them for life.

Rather than focus on the things you may have learned in your European History classes, there are 5 basic things you should know about this show before diving in, head first, and enjoying every minute of it.

The Good, The Bad & The Telenovelas

December 13, 2006 By theTVaddict 1 Comment

If there’s one thing fans of MyNetwork TV needn’t worry about, it’s having their favorite shows yanked out from under them mid-stream (ala FOX’s late, lamented REUNION or ABC’s THE NINE). For better or worse, MyNetwork’s small but loyal audience know not only that they’ll get answers to every burning question raised on their favorite programs… but exactly when.

Last week, the fledgling network’s first primetime offerings – FASHION HOUSE and DESIRE – aired their finales, wrapping up those pesky loose threads and giving viewers the kind of satisfying ending one fears ABC’s LOST may never provide. And the day after those dramas wrapped, two new soaps – WICKED, WICKED GAMES and WATCH OVER ME – began to unfold their allotted 65 episodes… after which two more telenovelas will take their place.

But are MyNetwork’s offerings worth tuning in for?

The TV Addict Interviews HEROES Adrian Pasdar and Milo Ventimiglia

November 6, 2006 By theTVaddict 5 Comments

heroes nathan peter petrelli

This past Tuesday, also known as Halloween, the TV Addict had the chance to talk to HEROES stars Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli) and Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli). Not surprisingly, both actors who play ‘make-believe’ for a living didn’t dress up for Halloween. But they did have some very interesting things to say about being part of the fall’s newest hit show.

Did you ever imagine HEROES would become the hit it has?

Milo Ventimiglia: The pilot script was different then anything I’d read in a long time. It was a huge departure from the misfit younger characters I’ve been playing [GILMORE GIRLS, AMERICAN DREAM] which I was definitely excited about.

Adrian Pasdar: The moment I had an idea [that the show would become a hit] was at July’s San Diego Comic Con. The fire marshall came over to Jeff Leob (HEROES Executive Producer) and told us that we have too many people in the hall and we’d have to shut down. Jeff said, “You go tell them they can’t watch the show.” At that moment, I realized we’d have an initial shot at a large audience and it was up to us to deliver.

Milo Ventimiglia: The overall response has been positive. I’m starting to hear things from people on the street or my friends, asking about Nathan. It’s nice to know that hopefully we’re doing our jobs well enough that people are talking about the show.

Adrian Pasdar: It’s nice to be a part of the water-cooler conversation.

Adrian Pasdar and Milo Ventimiglia Speak

October 31, 2006 By theTVaddict 9 Comments

This afternoon, theTVaddict had a chance to talk to HEROES stars Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli) and Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli). Check back tomorrow for some great insight and scoop on television’s newest hit drama. That said, here are two questions that I found particularly interesting, yet have absolutely nothing to do with HEROES.

Question for Milo: If this happens to be GILMORE GIRLS last season, would you consider returning as Jess?

Milo Ventimiglia: With GILMORE GIRLS last season, I went back because Dan and Amy [Sherman-Palladino] asked me too. I’ve never met David [new executive producer David Rosenthal)] and I’m pretty busy working on HEREOS, so I don’t see it happening.

Question for Adrian: How do you feel about the same network that your show is on [NBC] not wanting to air commercials for your wife’s documentary film SHUT UP AND SING [Adrian Pasdar is married to Dixie Chicks band member Natalie Maines]?

Adrian Pasdar: That’s a touchy issue, but I can’t say I condone the behaviour by NBC. I think it’s cowardly. Television is free for the people and the network should not take it upon themselves to be a sieve for what’s acceptable. It’s a documentary for heavens sake — It’s not a fictionalized account [the movie]. I think it’s a sad commentary and I’d be a liar if I didn’t say I was extremely disapointed.

Be sure to visit theTVaddict.com tomorrow for more with Adrian Pasdar and Milo Ventimiglia. Rest assured, they talk HEROES… not politics! This TV Addict was incredibly impressed with how well both actors spoke and articulated answers to practically every question under the sun.

This Week on TV

July 15, 2006 By theTVaddict 8 Comments

I tend to watch almost every show on the planet (minus a few big ones that I just have never gotten into), so my guide to THIS WEEK ON TV will probably be different then most people’s. I’ll try and highlight even the shows that I don’t watch as well. 😉

Starting off this week, there are only 2 new shows on, both of which I love! The 4400 & The Dead Zone. Things are heating up on The 4400, as Isabelle is getting pretty damn freaky & powerful. Can Tom & the other Ntac agents stop her? I love The Dead Zone so much more when the story isn’t focused around Stillson and the apocalypse! This week, Johnny joins a group about to commit a violent robbery. I’m wondering if we’ll see Sarah this ep! We haven’t seen her at all this season!

My Take on TV

May 16, 2006 By theTVaddict 8 Comments

(*note from the TVaddict: Welcome to what we hope will become a weekly column about TV by Amrie, a fellow TV addict. I hope you like enjoy the column as much as I did, and please feel free to comment below!)

My name is Amrie and I am addicted to TV.

And now, a column….

In the coming days, most TV people will spend the week worrying about the Up Fronts. What show will be picked up? What show will be thrown to the curb? Not this TV person. I feel like if I talk about the Up Fronts, I will indirectly jinx myself and my favorite shows. Take for example the fact that I spent the entire morning talking about how amazing Veronica Mars is, and, bam, 7th Heaven is miraculously resurrected, and now Veronica Mars has this sad, sad chance of not being renewed. So this week, rather than focus on what might happen, or how sad we might be come Friday next, let’s talk about something different.
