DEXTER: The British Invasion

dexter finale

While DEXTER wrapped up its second season in style, this TV Addict had one serious issue. Namely, I predicted it! [see last week’s post titled “The TV Addict Predicts Sunday’s Dexter Finale”]

Of course predictability aside, it was an incredibly satisfying finale filled with TiVo-worthy character moments for virtually every one of our favorite Miama cops.

Oh, and Lila.

Love her or loathe her, you gotta give Lila some credit. From the moment the two soul mates met [Lexter?], everything changed. Lila may have been completely psychotic, but she does deserve credit for teaching Dexter to accept who he is.

How hilarious [and twisted] was Lila’s reaction upon realizing why Doakes was in the cage? Her smile was just so wicked as she formulated a plan, to in essence — consummate her relationship with Dexter.

The TV Addict Predicts Sunday’s DEXTER Finale

December 10, 2007 By theTVaddict 17 Comments

dexter spoilers

Dexter Morgan is not the only one who’s burdened with Harry’s Code. The show’s writers are tied to the same rules. Which is why this TV Addict thinks he’s discovered the only way in which Dexter can make it to a third season alive and unscathed.

For the ‘brilliant’ theory on how next week’s finale will play out, as well as some random musings about last night’s fantastic penultimate episode — click the link below. [Note, if you’ve already seen the finale through ways in which we won’t mention — PLEASE don’t comment and spoil!]

Ausiello Slams DEXTER. We Slam Ausiello

December 5, 2007 By theTVaddict 16 Comments

It’s not often that we at theTVaddict.com go out of our way to critique a “colleague”, but after reading this morning’s ASK AUSIELLO we feel compelled to comment.

Question: Will Lundy be back next season on Dexter? Any new spoilers on whether or not his relationship with Deb continues?

Ausiello: All I’ll say is it’s not looking good for these two — and hallelujah to that. The Deb-Lundy romance was as ill-conceived as it was clumsily executed, and it dragged down what was otherwise a solid sophomore season. There were times I felt like the show’s writers had handed their scenes off to someone at October Road to pen. Heck, the couples on The Hills have more nuanced dialogue than these two.

Did we just read that correctly? Did Ausiello seriously just compare the brilliance of DEXTER to the high school melodrama that is OCTOBER ROAD and THE HILLS?

The Deb-Lundy romance has been one of the highlights of DEXTER’s phenomenal second season. “Clumsily executed and ill-conceived” — Perhaps Ausiello is still suffering from VERONICA MARS/GILMORE GIRLS/FELICITY withdrawal? What’s he going to do when SCRUBS shuts down? Praise CAVEMEN [oh wait, too late!]

Mr. Ausiello, we at theTVaddict.com expect nothing less than a full retraction in next week’s ASK AUSIELLO. Or else you can kiss your precious Smurfs goodbye. Yes… we know people.

You Be The Critic: BROTHERS & SISTER and DEXTER

December 3, 2007 By theTVaddict 6 Comments

It was cliffhanger madness on TV last night. Fellow TV Addicts, we now have seven long days to ponder who Holly’s mystery-man is [aside from real-life husband Ken Olin] and how the final act of the delicious Dexter Doakes Dance is going to play out. Any Guesses? Post away.

Disappointed by DEXTER: Resistance is Futile

November 26, 2007 By theTVaddict 21 Comments

To paraphrase THE SIMPSON’S uber TV critic Comic Book Guy, “Worst Episode Ever!”

Okay, perhaps that’s a bit of an overstatement. But truth be told, last night’s installment of DEXTER was incredibly disappointing. Here’s why:

1. Are we seriously to believe that 160 pound Dexter Morgan could so easily subdue an armed and dangerous lethal weapon like Sgt. Doakes?

2. When Dexter asked Doakes how he found his little hiding spot, Doakes explained that he simply planted a GPS device on his boat. If that’s the case, why did Doakes waste all that time following Dexter throughout the season’s first few episodes? Why not use a GPS device?

3. The writer’s employed my television pet peeve — one that’s usually reserved for the likes of Jack Bauer on 24. When Doakes was conversing with LaGuerta on a cell phone, he wouldn’t reveal that he was secretly tracking Dexter. I mean HELLO!!! Shouldn’t the first words out of Doakes’ mouth have been, “By the way, you should probably know that Dexter Morgan is the Bay Harbour Butcher!”

4. Unless the writer’s have one helluva rabbit up their sleeve [and they very well may have one!] — Sgt. Doakes is all but dead. Which means season three of DEXTER just got far less interesting. Just ask JJ Abrams how ALIAS did without the brilliant dynamic between Sydney, SpyDaddy Jack Bristow and SpyMommy Irina Derevko.

5. Keith Carradine’s gratuitous butt shot. Was it really necessary? If we want to see old people naked, we’ll flip over to HBO’s TELL ME YOU LOVE ME.

DEXTER Kills in the Ratings

November 21, 2007 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

Apparently, I’m not the only TV Addict addicted to DEXTER this season. Showtime is reporting today that Sunday’s episode averaged 1.23 million viewers, the best numbers ever for a single run series on Showtime since 2004. Proving yet again, that when it comes to television — theTVaddict.com knows what’s best for you.

With that in mind, may we also take a moment to humbly suggest tuning into DIRTY SEXY MONEY tonight on ABC at 10PM. Trust us, with the holidays around the corner, it’s never a bad thing to be reminded that there are far more dysfunctional families than the one you’re sitting down to Thanksgiving Dinner with!

Dexter: Morning Comes

November 19, 2007 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

dexter

Three months ago, this TV Addict asked you all which family member, friend or co-worker would fall victim to Dexter’s ‘special brand of justice’ this coming season. Eight episodes in, we’re still not sure. But thought why not run down the list of potential victims anyways!

Lila: Following last night’s episode, Dexter’s ex-girlfriend, arsonist and all-around ‘crazy’ undoubtedly seems like the most-worthy victim. Not only has her tits totally thrown Dexter off his game, but she stepped way over the line by breaking into Rita’s house. As Dexter said in the show’s first episode. Never mess with the kids. Translation: Sayonara Lila.

Lundy: While Lundy seems like the most intelligent foe Dexter’s ever had to face. We have a feeling that his relationship with Deb will most likely cloud his judgement when it comes to making the Bay Harbour Butcher/Dexter connection. That or the fact that the man walks around Miami all day in wool suits. To paraphrase the hilarious Masuka, “What’s the deal?”

Doakes: As much as we’re counting down the days until the inevitable no-holds-barred Dexter vs. Doakes confrontation. There’s no way the writer’s are going to give it to us this season. The dynamic between the two of them is far too interesting to extinguish so early in the show’s run. Our prediction. Come the end of the season, Doakes will find himself behind bars, convicted of the crimes that Dexter committed. Leaving season three open for Doakes’ revenge. Which we imagine will be as awesome as it sounds.

Random Musings: HEROES, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER & DEXTER

November 14, 2007 By theTVaddict 8 Comments

With our one day strike in support of the WGA finally behind us [Seriously, who’d have guessed that not blabbering on endlessly about television for a day would be so difficult!] this TV Addict can finally get a few things off his chest.

First on the list — HEROES. It’s not so much that I hated Monday’s episode. I simply watched the entire hour thinking, “If only they started the season off this way!” Just imagine. How much more exciting would “Generations” have been if we knew that Adam and Peter were on the run from The Company. That the ‘Wonder Twin’s’ crime was essentially a wedding massacre and that Niki suddenly found herself with a lot more than just Jessica to contend with.

While it comes as no surprise —considering the brilliance of season one — this TV Addict is officially proclaiming DEXTER as this fall’s Must Watch Show. And not just Must Watch. It’s Must Watch with no interruptions. No phone, internet or food. Simply me, mesmerized and on the edge of my seat as Lundy and Co. creep closer and closer to realizing that the Bay Harbour Butcher is one of their own. Gulp!

Is anyone else struggling to figure out where Robin fits in when it comes to this season of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER? While the show’s done a marvelous job of highlighting the ups and downs of Marshall and Lilly’s post-nuptial life, Ted’s quest for coupledom and Barney being well, Barney. Robin seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle. Here’s hoping that post-strike, MOTHER masterminds Carter Bays and Craig Thomas give the deserving Cobie Smulders a far more substantial role to play in the show. A fellow Canadian and former Pop Star deserves a far better fate then TV sidekick.

And finally. I have a feeling NIP/TUCK’s Julian McMahon left his acting skills in Miami when McNamara/Troy moved to LA. Don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely loving NIP/TUCK: 90210 edition, but simply can’t believe how poor a job McMahon is doing of hiding his Australian accent. Hey McMahon — Get’cha Head in the Game!
