The TV Addict Goes on Hiatus

July 22, 2008 By theTVaddict 8 Comments

The TV Addict overlooking Sequoia National Park

Are you ready to find an ulterior method of procrastination during your work/school day? Because theTVaddict.com is going on hiatus.

After two and half years of virtually daily postings [with the exception of weekends and that dark period following EVERWOOD’s cancellation] this TV Addict has finally decided to take some of his mother’s childhood advice to heart, shut off that damn “idiot box” and head outside.

For the next two days I’ll be hurtling down Sequoia National Park’s Kern River on a White Water Rafting Adventure. The great outdoors, here’s hoping they live up to the hype!

TCA 2008: CBS President Nina Tassler Talks MOONLIGHT’s Cancellation and CSI’s Grissom Replacement

July 18, 2008 By theTVaddict 29 Comments

By: Kevin Kelly, Special TCA Correspondent

Minutes ago, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler filled us in — and by ‘us’ I mean the hundred or so journalists attending the 2008 Television Critics Association Press Tour — with regards to what fans can expect from the character replacing William Peterson’s Gil Grissom on CSI this upcoming season. According to Tassler, Grissom’s replacement will be a doctor, who not only is a bit of an outsider and must work his way onto the team, but has somewhat of a complex dual identity. One that DEXTER fans might be intimately [or is it eerily] familiar with.

In other news, Tassler pretty much put a final stake into MOONLIGHT’s chances for survival by revealing that she stands by her decision to cancel this season’s JERICHO. Said Tassler, “We love Alex and the rest of the cast, but we’re okay to let the show go.” Adding that most of the comments she received from viewers were aimed at the actors and not the show itself.

Which naturally got us thinking. If Alex O’Loughlin is currently unemployed and the gang from CSI are on the look out for a dark and mysterious investigator. It doesn’t take THE BIG BANG THEORY’s Sheldon and/or Leonard to connect the dots here! Match made in television heaven? You be the judge.

Ask the Addict: Now With 100% Genuine Scoop

July 9, 2008 By theTVaddict 12 Comments

Question: Well here it is Mr. So-Called TV Addict. Your very own Moment of Truth. On Monday you promised us genuine TV related scoop about one of our favorite BATTLESTAR GALACTICA cast members. Did you bring it?. — YesIamthefinalcylon

TV Addict: Did I ever! Are you ready for the scoop you’ve been anxiously waiting two whole days for? Because here it goes. The cast member who has just signed on to a high profile series for a multi-episode arc in order to, as this TV Addict’s source put it, “sex-up the second season” is…..

[Pause for Dramatic Effect]

[Drum Roll Please]

[Initiate Countdown]

[Okay I’ll Stop]

Grace Park. Who will be joining the cast of the CBC’s [Canada’s Broadcasting Corporation] hit show THE BORDER for a multi-episode arc to kick off the start the second season. And because I know you’re probably thinking, “What’s THE BORDER?” It’s Canada’s version of A&E’s MI5, or as our friends in the UK call it, SPOOKS.

Question: Quick, I’m suffering from serious GREY’S ANATOMY withdrawal and need three CC’s of scoop STAT! — McNerdly

TV Addict: Unfortunately this TV Addict has been banned thanks to a silly court order from prescribing anything to you. But rest assured McNerdly, I sympathize. As I too am jonsin’ for some more more McRomance following the phenomenal string of post-WGA strike episodes that Shonda Rhimes and her creative team delivered.

If only I had the first season of GREY’S ANATOMY on DVD. Too bad one of my so-called ‘friends’ decided to ‘borrow’ the first season without returning it. But rather than remain bitter that everyone I know enjoys using my ridiculously large, not to mention incredibly expensive TV on DVD collection as their personal lending library — I should probably go about answering your question. According to my sources* ex-ROME and JOURNEYMAN star Kevin McKidd is about to sign on for the season as a love interest for Cristina.

*And by ‘Sources’ I naturally mean TVGuide, who ironically enough has been using Entertainment Weekly as their primary ‘source’ of late. Awkward.

BURN NOTICE Behind-the-Scenes: Meet Valerie Schields

June 26, 2008 By theTVaddict 4 Comments

By: Amrie Cunningham [My Take on TV]

“He was like really a bad singer, and he was a luna(tic)” – find out who Valerie Schields, Locations Manager from BURN NOTICE, is talking about and why she loves shooting in Miami.

Valerie: Our job is when we get a script, then we take a look at what the locations are supposed to be, then we present options to the director and the production designer. And then they make the final choice. But it’s a really creative job. The most fun part of the job is the scouting because that is, it’s adding, we’re adding, we’re contributing. Even though the final choice is the director’s, we’re contributing to the look of the show. Then it moves onto the business. Once they‘ve picked everything then all the logistics start and we have to sign the contracts and organize the police and the fire department and the parking and the catering and the everything. Actually, the location manager, once the locations are found is the liaison between the community, the real world, as we call it, and the crew. Because the crew actually is a very efficient machine that’s run. Everybody knows their job, but what we need to do is to facilitate the crew to do what they need to do to get their job done and yet interface with the community and make it happen so that everybody’s happy. When we film in private properties or office buildings or restaurants, then also what we do is we have to get the crew to abide by what we promised. So we’re the liaison also for the location and representative of the crew.

I’ve been curious ever since I’ve seen it, the house that Michael and his family squat in. How much does it cost to rent it?
Which house was it?

The one in the finale….Yeah, Nate was squatting and he brought Madeline and Michael into it. He said it was a foreclosure on the show. It looks like it’s on Star Island, well I thought it was, but it might be Palm Island….I think it was episode 10 last year.
I don’t remember. I really don’t remember where it was. It probably was on Star. Was it a mansion?

Now that the critics have spoken by releasing their nominations for the 2008 Television Critics Association Awards, this TV Addict wanted to give you the viewer, also known as the only critics that really matter, a chance to voice your opinion. Are you pleased with the TCA’s Nods? Or are you too bothered by the inclusion of HBO’s incredibly overrated JOHN ADAMS and the conspicuous absence of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, DEXTER and Michael Emerson [and that’s just off the top of my head!]

Jenny’s TV Guide: Sunday May 4

May 4, 2008 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

Sunday marks the season finale of Cold Case on CBS at an earlier time, 8/7c (which is followed by 2 episodes of Dexter!). Nicholle Tom (The Nanny, guest starred most recently on Criminal Minds), guests when the team investigates when a former drug addict insists she saw her son in a park three years after he allegedly died in an apartment fire.

Tonight is also the season premiere of This American Life on Showtime at 10/9c. From Showtime’s website: Compelling stories are explored every day on “This American Life,” the nearly 15-year-old, award-winning Chicago Public Radio show that boasts a devoted weekly listening audience of 1.7 million, and is heard on more than 500 stations nationally. In the same spirit of the radio show, the televised version takes 30-minute looks at stories culled from all over the country. Glass and a small team of radio producers and filmmakers spent six months on the road: traveling to Iowa pig farms, following a first-time filmmaker in California, photographing a raucous night at an Illinois hot dog stand. The result is true stories that are dramatic, emotional, and often funny.
