TV Addict Interview: Alyssa Milano

March 14, 2008 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

alyssa milano wisegal
By: Amrie Cunningham [My Take on TV]

I’ve been a TV Addict forever, watching hours of TV when my mom told me not to. One of my favorite characters ever to grace the small screen is Samantha Micelli from WHO’S THE BOSS?, played so wonderfully by Alyssa Milano. I recently had the great pleasure of catching up with Alyssa to talk about her new Lifetime movie airing this weekend.

The movie, called WISEGAL, is the true story of Patty Montanari, a widowed mother, trying to make ends meet, who in doing so, joins the mafia. Alyssa portrays the title character with strength and vulnerability. James Caan and Jason Gedrick costar in a movie that fits the mold of a Lifetime film – the kind that gets you all teary-eyed – but goes above and beyond that to make you really think about what you would do for your family.

I love the movie. Lifetime has been doing some really great stuff lately.
Alyssa Milano:
Yeah, it’s definitely, it’s interesting. It’s an interesting combination. It’s definitely a movie that Lifetime audiences will enjoy because the crux of it is a single mother trying to make ends meet.

What made you want to play Patty?
There were a lot of elements. When I first read the script, before we started production, I just felt like I had a really good grasp on who she was. And what motivated her to make the choices that she makes. And also, I think it shows the mafia in a way that we’ve never seen before, through the eyes of a woman. What that enabled us to do was to really show a side that where it cares about family and about being accepted in a family and about feeling protected and taken care of. And I think that because Patty never had those things, it was very attractive to her.

Jenny’s TV Guide: Sunday March 2

March 2, 2008 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

Welcome to a new week for This Week on TV and the first week of March. What a crazy week for TV. Lots of premieres, several finales and TONS of new TV. Weeeee! So let’s see what’s going on, shall we?

Sunday marks the series premiere of 4 new shows! First up is Oprah’s Big Give on ABC at 9/8c. It defies television convention with the bold idea of people competing to give rather than get. In eight one-hour episodes, a diverse, determined and competitive group of ten people are given the challenge of a lifetime — to change the lives of complete strangers in the most creative and dramatic ways. In this intense competition, the contestants criss-cross the country, scrambling to find ways to impact the fates and fortunes of unsuspecting people who are in for the surprise of their lives. Lives will be changed in the blink of an eye as contestants race against time to create once-in-a-lifetime experiences and also give away hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Next up is Here Come the Newlyweds on ABC at 10:02/9:02c. Seven just-married couples compete for a nest egg worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to kick-start their new lives together and help them realize their dreams in this new romantic comedy reality series.

Also tonight is the series premiere of That’s Amore! on MTV at 10/9c. This romantic comedy-reality elimination series features Domenico Nesci, the Italian native from the hit series A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila. Domenico may have gone home broken-hearted, but this Italian bachelor hasn’t given up on love. He’s still looking for the perfect match, and MTV is going to help him find her.

Finally, it’s the series premiere of Unhitched on FOX at 9:30/8:30c. Executive-produced by the Farrelly Brothers, this single-camera comedy revolves around four unattached friends who actually want to be married and must navigate the tricky waters of dating in their 30s. The series stars Craig Bierko, Rashida Jones, Johnny Sneed and Shaun Majumder.

Also, don’t miss the season premiere of Dirt on FX at 10/9c! Lucy returns to the magazine to reclaim her position as “Tabloid Queen”; Don experiences life on medication; a chance encounter between Lucy and a young pop star results in a surprising opportunity.

Shame on You Parents Television Council

February 22, 2008 By theTVaddict 15 Comments

In yesterday’s ADWEEK, the Parents Television Council called on advertisers to boycott CBS’ airing of DEXTER on Sundays at 10PM.

“Despite countless public calls for restraint and corporate responsibility, CBS broke its own promise to the public that it would employ careful editing and accurate ratings guidelines for Dexter,” said PTC president Tim Winter. “Depictions of violence were barely altered from the Showtime network original format.”

Not surprisingly, the TV Addict yet again finds himself absolutely flabbergasted by the complete lack of common sense shown by this so called council of responsible TV watching parents.
