TheTVaddict.com Week in Rewind

October 21, 2007 By theTVaddict 13 Comments

aliens in america

Welcome to THE TV ADDICT’S WEEK IN REWIND A look back at last week’s good/bad/ugly in the world of television. Oh, and speaking of good. Did you hear? TheTVaddict.com was in the LA TIMES?

BEST EPISODE OF THE WEEK: ALIENS IN AMERICA
Monday’s ALIENS IN AMERICA taught this TV Addict a lot. Namely, that Justin is brilliant. Creating a fake Rocket Club as an excuse to escape his overprotective mom [Franny thought the Canadian Flag was a giant red pot leaf!] and chill in a friend’s basement, eat cupcakes and watch movies — why didn’t I think of that in high school?

More math for you — one really funny plot [local police think Raja’s a terrorist because he’s buying rocket supplies at the local hardware store] plus some terrific one liners [Cheerleader philosophy: “What you’re actually saying is that in this country, there’s absolutely nothing a boy can do that a girl won’t cheer for.”] equals one explosive ending, and the funniest half hour of comedy this week.

LAUGH OUT LOUD MOMENT OF THE WEEK: DEXTER
Sure the words ‘serial killer’ and ‘funny’ don’t exactly go hand in hand, but we have a feeling anyone who’s ever bought a car couldn’t help but laugh when Dexter’s latest victim just so happened to be a car salesman. Memo to Dexter: Having recently gone through the ordeal of purchasing my first car, if you’re ever in the Toronto area, I’ve got a few car salesman who are most definitely worthy of your special brand of justice.

BIGGEST SHOCKER OF THE WEEK: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
Dumbledore was gay! Oh wait, this is theTVaddict.com. Mamma Taylor slapped Julie! Landry and Tyra did it! Riggins attended Church! Coach Taylor’s coming back to Dillon! Two questions for FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHT fanatics. One, can FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS get any better? And two, how long until next week’s episode?

Joanna’s Best & Worst of the Week

October 15, 2007 By theTVaddict 10 Comments

It is with careful consideration that I bring you my take on this week’s Best & Worst of TV. Agree or disagree? Either way, post your comments and let us know!

Best of the Week #1: DEXTER
Dexter’s back in action, and boy did we wait long! That bowling scene was such a fitting cold open, it instantly reminded me of why I love this show so much. Dexter is a loveable weirdo-slash-murderer. He was last season and I expected nothing less of him this time around. Needless to say, I got what I wanted. It was also nice to see a little bit of continuity on the Rudy situation, both Dexter and his sister are still suffering through the aftermath of last season’s big finale shocker. I don’t know about you, but I say bring on another season! Strrrrrike! Ha!

Best of the Week #2: BROTHERS & SISTERS
The cast of BROTHERS & SISTERS has such great chemistry. With Sally Field as their phenomenal leader, their portrayal of the disagreeing, quirky, big family couldn’t be done any better. This episode about Justin’s return from Iraq was another great example of that. Usually I’m quick to dismiss any storyline involving the war in Iraq, but Kitty’s and Nora’s different political views on the matter made it interesting. Of course that’s just one example, there are many more aspects of this week’s episode that made the war in Iraq bearable. And making the subject of Iraq bearable, that’s not an easy thing to accomplish, at least not with me.

Best of the Week #3: TELL ME YOU LOVE ME
Why do I list this here? Because I think Carolyn must have single-handedly emptied out the local drug store at the end of the episode. Trying pregnancy test after pregnancy test – knowing full well that they were all going to tell her the same – until she finally gave up on the whole thing. I like TELL ME YOU LOVE ME for its complex relationships, and this week’s episode stood out because I was really hoping she would finally be pregnant. That final scene where she gets shattered was simply brilliant.

Random Musings for a Wednesday

September 19, 2007 By theTVaddict 10 Comments

Remember our little 10 TV QUESTION CHALLENGE you [theTVaddict.com readers] helped put together last month? Well, we finally got our first showrunner response. And I have a feeling frequent visitors to the site will have a pretty good guess as to which showrunner was cool enough to respond first! Any guesses?

More Good News if you’re a fan of FREE TV on DVD. There are still two days remaining to enter both our HEROES and DEXTER Contests.

And finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a quick plug to Kelsey Grammer’s new sitcom BACK TO YOU. Premiering tonight at 8PM, the half hour laugher not only features an all-star ensemble including Patricia Heaton and Fred Willard — but is a nice reminder that the classic sitcom is alive and well. (FOX and GLOBAL at 8PM)
