Golden Globe Nods: The Good, The Bad and The Forgotten

December 14, 2006 By theTVaddict 14 Comments

THE GOOD: Thankfully, so many of this year’s nominations fall in ‘the good’ category. Unlike the Emmy’s, which manage to nominate the same actors each and every year, you can always count on the Golden Globes to award excellence even if you aren’t a member of the cast of FRASIER or Allison Janney. This year I’m so pleased that the Hollywood Foreign Press (by the way, I’m in Canada, do I count?) recognized some new hits, including DEXTER, UGLY BETTY, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. I also am quite pleased that not everyone on Wisteria Lane got a nomination and that the two actresses that got nods Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman, definitely deserved it. Alec Baldwin, Zach Braff, Steve Carrell if only their could be a three way tie for the winner!

THE BAD: Tony Shalhoub, I just don’t get it. I’m honestly at a loss for words. While I’m sure people watch (and like) MONK, I have yet to meet any of them. Along those same lines, what is Patricia Arquette bribing the voters with? MEDIUM was barely renewed this season. Bradley Whitford definitely deserved a nod as he’s just as much at the heart of STUDIO 60 as Matthew Perry is. 24, it’s a great show, but not award worthy. After five seasons, how many more times can Jack Bauer save the day and survive? And finally, no love for ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT? I can only assume that the Hollywood Foreign Press forgot that FOX burned off most of their final [brilliant] episodes in February.

THE FORGOTTEN: The entire casts of SCRUBS [particularly Donald Faison (Turk)] and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. DEXTER in the best drama category. BROTHERS & SISTERS stars Calista Flockhart and Sally Field. And the obligatory snub of everyone deserving on the CW and Sci-Fi: See Kelly Bishop, Lauren Graham, Kristen Bell, Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell and James Callis et al.

theTVaddict would love to hear your thoughts. Please post away with your own ‘Good, Bad and Forgotten’

Jenny’s This Week on TV

December 10, 2006 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

Hi TV addicts! There are a ton of specials and new episodes on this week, so let’s get right to it, shall we?

SUNDAY

Start off your Sunday with Reba on the CW network at 7:30/6:30c. Reba and Van end their real-estate partnership; Barbra Jean auditions to be the new weather girl at a local TV station. Hah. Barbra Jean as a weather girl. Nice!

Then you must watch the Season Finale of The Amazing Race on CBS at 8/7c. The final three teams head for France; one team falls behind on the journey; a 12,000-foot sky-dive causes a rift between team members; contestants struggle to be the first to reach the finish line. Let’s take bets on who wins! Actually, I don’t really care since the blonde bitches are gone! lol I don’t really want ‘Bama to win, since they are there on a lot of luck and a little skill. Out of the other 2 teams, *shrug*.

Then stick around for Cold Case at 9/8c. The reopening of the case of a male singer’s 2000 murder requires Lilly and reluctant Scotty to travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to delve into the country music world. Scotty’s kinda cute, don’tcha think? 😉

Then at 10/9c, turn to ABC for Brothers & Sisters. Sarah, Tommy and Saul make a crucial mistake while trying to retrieve funds to save the family business; Nora overcompensates over the holidays. Is anyone loving this show?

Also on tonight:

  • The Wire *Season Finale*
  • Sleeper Cell *2nd Season Premiere*
  • The Simpsons *18th Season Premiere*
  • NFL Football *Sports*
  • 7th Heaven *New Episode*
  • American Dad *New Episode*
  • Dexter *New Episode*
  • Extreme Makeover: Home Edition *2 Hour New Episode*

Jenny’s This Week on TV

December 3, 2006 By theTVaddict 4 Comments

Well, I’ll warn you now that this week is pretty darn empty, except for freakin THURSDAY, which is PACKED! lol Get ready for multiple reruns people! Hope you have some stuff saved up to watch!

SUNDAY

There isn’t much new on Sunday. There are a few things on, including the CBS lineup. But first, check out the new episode of Reba on the CW network at 7:30/6:30c. Kyra moves back in with Reba, who catches her drinking; Brock and Barbra Jean confess that they let Kyra have an occasional beer in their house. Oh man, Reba is gonna go ballistic! Especially after Cheyenne’s alcohol problem last season!

Then check out the afformentioned CBS lineup, starting with The Amazing Race at 8/7c. The teams leave Morocco and immediately hit a detour; an argument breaks out when one racer loses faith in a partner; one team is eliminated. I can not WAIT to see the blondes go home. Hopefully it’ll be this week!

Then is Cold Case at 9/8c. Lilly and the team reopen a 1968 case involving the killing of a cop suspected of being gay. It’s hard even now for a cop to be gay, I’m sure, let alone nearly 40 years ago!

Finally at 10/9c, you can catch a new ep of Without a Trace. A young mother with less than a month to live disappears after leaving a gathering of cancer patients. Maybe she’ll have gone to try a new treatment and it’ll cure her? Very sad. 🙁

If you are a fan of Noah Wyle (formerly of ER), be sure and catch the tv movie, The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mine on TNT. This globe-trotting action-thriller sends Flynn on a journey to uncover the fabled mines of King Solomon and a secret about his own family’s past. He’s joined by Gabrielle Anwar as a woman whose academic skills surpass even his own. Noah Wyle is YUMMY. 🙂

Also on tonight:

  • NFL Football *Sports*
  • BCS Selection Show *Sports*
  • 7th Heaven *New Episode*
  • Dexter *New Episode*
  • Extreme Makeover: Home Edition *New Episode*
  • American Dad *Repeat*
  • America’s Next Top Model *Repeat*
  • Brothers & Sisters *Repeat*
  • Desperate Housewives *Repeat*
  • Family Guy *Repeat*
  • The Simpsons *Repeat*

Random TV Tidbits: The Office, Heroes, How I Met Your Mother

November 27, 2006 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

Today’s LA TIMES has a great article on how many of THE OFFICE writers ended up acting in the show. Mindy Kaling’s (Kelly Kapoor) theory: Sheer Laziness on the part of Executive Producer Greg Daniels! Click here to check out the article. The paper also has a brief article on what it was like for Ricky Gervais to pen this week’s episode of THE OFFICE.

Still scratching your head over what the Frak SAVE THE CHEERLEADER SAVE THE WORLD means? Well now’s your chance to get caught up. Sci Fi is airing the first six episodes of HEROES this Wednesday starting at 6PM

Could I be anymore excited for television tonight? Tonight on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Wayne Brady guest stars as Barney’s gay black brother (no, seriously). And on DEXTER (my new favourite drama), Dexter discovers that his biological father just recently died. This of course comes as a schock, because Harry, Dexter’s adoptive father, had told Dexter that his real father had died over 30 years ago. Not that my theories are ever correct, but how cool would it be if the Ice Truck Killer and Dexter were actually brothers!

Jenny’s This Week on TV

November 26, 2006 By theTVaddict 6 Comments

Ahh, what a crazy holiday vacation. I am SOOO glad to be home! Sorry for running late this week. Let’s see what’s in store for us!

SUNDAY

I know most of you aren’t fans of 7th Heaven, but for those that are, check out the new ep on the CW Network at 8/7c on Sunday. When Ruthie makes an inappropriate comment on the way home from Scotland, airport security takes Eric, Annie and Ruthie in for questioning; Mac visits Sandy to find out whether she is still interested in Simon. Should be a good ep!

Then from 9/8c-11/10c on CBS, catch Alicia Silverstone in the tv movie Candles on Bay Street, which is based on a novel by K.C. McKinnon. Feelings from the past re-emerge for a married man after his old high-school sweetheart returns to town with her son. Get into the holiday spirit while you watch!

If you are a fan of Boston Legal, don’t miss the new episode on a special night tonight at 10/9c! Alan Shore helps Jerry Espenson, whose client stands accused of murdering her ex-girlfriend; Lincoln resurfaces at the firm, taking a peculiar interest in Shirley.

Also on tonight:

  • NFL Football *Sports*
  • American Dad *New Episode*
  • Desperate Housewives *New Episode*
  • Dexter *New Episode*
  • Extreme Makeover: Home Edition *New Episode*
  • Family Guy *New Episode*
  • Reba *New Episode*
  • The Amazing Race *New Episode*

I’m Thankful For…

November 23, 2006 By theTVaddict 8 Comments

This being US Thanksgiving, I thought I’d spend the day writing a list of what I’m thankful for (TV edition). First and foremost (cheese alert!), I’m thankful to each and every reader who takes a moment out of their day to visit theTVaddict.com. Whether you just quickly read a post, take the time to comment/post, listen to the podcast, or email me, it’s been an absolute pleasure conversing. Also a huge shout-out to Amrie and Jenny who take the time out of their busy lives to write weekly columns that we’ve come to know and love. As well as Ari (my podcast partner in crime) who regardless of people want to hear it or not, spends thirty minutes a week with me talking about TV (among other things).

Now on to my list (please feel free to contribute).

I’m Thankful For…

1) ABC’s resurgence: DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, UGLY BETTY, GREY’S ANATOMY, BROTHERS & SISTERS, and yes, even LOST. Who knew the network that gave us WHAT ABOUT JIM and RODNEY would turn around to be so good so fast.

2) Marc and Amanda: The funniest sidekicks who just can’t seem to get their act together.

3) NBC Thursday: Starting next Thursday, MUST SEE TV truly returns to television. OFFICE, SCRUBS and 30 ROCK — I can’t wait.

4) SHOWTIME: DEXTER and WEEDS, two of the most daring, slightly insane shows on TV. Seven episodes in, still no clue as to who the Ice Truck Killer is.

5) Green Arrow: Made SMALLVILLE watch-able again. Spin-off please.

6) My PVR: The only reason I’m able to watch as much TV goodness as I am. Behind my Mac, iPod and TV, the best invention ever.

7) The guy who invented the first Cylon: Without them, we wouldn’t have that crazy war that destroyed Caprica and gave us BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

8) TV on DVD: BEVERLY HILLS 90210, MELROSE PLACE, THE WEST WING, SPORTS NIGHT, GILMORE GIRLS, SCRUBS, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, NEWSRADIO, ENTOURAGE, THE OFFICE, ALIAS… my shelves are full and I’m lovin’ it!

9) HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: The show is quickly reaching cult-like status for this TV addict, having already given us an amazing second season filled with “You’ve Been Lawyered”, “Swarley” and of course Robin Sparkles!

10) CHRIS PRATT: From EVERWOOD to THE OC, Chris Pratt definitely brightens up our day.

11) PARIS GELLAR: Through seven years of Lorelai love triangles, tumultuous relationships and behind-the-scenes changes, Paris remains the one constant brilliant star in all of Stars Hollow.
