Breaking News: We Know Who Kelly’s Baby Daddy Is!

September 11, 2008 By theTVaddict 13 Comments

90210 kelly brandon dylan baby

Now that I’ve got your attention, here’s the deal. This TV Addict really doesn’t have a clue as to the identity of Kelly’s Baby Daddy. But it did give me an opportunity to have a little fun with Photoshop [see US WEEKLY homage above] and more importantly, caught your attention long enough to throw out a little Beverly Hills Baby Daddy theory of my own. One that I immediately formulated upon learning on Tuesday’s episode of 90210 that Kelly’s mysterious Baby Daddy was as a result of an impromptu hook-up with a guy she, “had a lot of history together [with] in high school.”

Cut to forty-eight hours later and fifteen to twenty Red Bulls, this TV Addict thinks he has the answer. Which curly haired original series actor is just about desperate enough to take a break from his burgeoning career as a reality television star to return to the show that made him famous?

For the answer… [Read more…]

Help Solve the Mystery that is 90210

September 10, 2008 By theTVaddict 13 Comments

shenae grimes tristan wilds 90210

Now I know what you’re thinking, “Isn’t FRINGE the show that’s supposed to have fans scratching their heads?” Well, yes. But this morning this TV Addict can’t seem to stop thinking about all the surprising mysteries brought forth by last night’s installment of 90210. Here’s hoping that you, my far smarter and better looking readers can help a TV Addict out by posting your theories.

Mystery #1, West Beverly High: Far be it from this TV Addict to judge another high school. But at least where I came from [Toronto’s Forest Hill Collegiate, in case you’re wondering], new kids were not so easily welcomed with open arms like the gang from West Bev seems to have embraced Annie and Dixon Mills. I mean seriously. Unless you were hot, and I mean really really hot. Newbies weren’t talked to for a good month or two! Which begs the obvious question, what is Annie and Dixon’s secret? And more importantly, why did 90210 showrunners Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs rob fans of that classic first season episode where our lead characters invariably form that best-friends-forever bond after being trapped in detention, an elevator, the library, and/or victims of a school shooting or earthquake.

Mystery #2, Naomi Clark: Do the powers that be seriously expect us to buy that AnnaLynne McCord looks young enough to play a high school student? But Gabrielle Carteris comparisons aside, what this TV Addict is really tiring of is the played out television cliché that money doesn’t by happiness. Who doesn’t dream of the day when your Dad makes up for the fact that he can’t take you to Las Vegas by surprising you with a car.

Mystery #3, Kelly’s BabyFather: While the identity of Kelly’s one night stand technically still remains a mystery, there’s no way that Sammy’s father isn’t Dylan McKay. I’m just sayin’, Jim and Cindy Walsh did no raise Brandon Walsh to be a deadbeat dad!

Ask The Addict

June 18, 2008 By theTVaddict 10 Comments

Nice touch ending last week’s inaugural ‘Ask The Addict’ by posing a question to the readers. But you failed to answer it yourself. How are you getting through, as you so accurately put it, “the dark days of summer rerun/reality TV hell?” — Dylan

Rather than turn to overrated and frivolous pursuits like ‘reading’ or ‘the outdoors,’ this TV Addict has thus far survived these dark days of summer with the assistance of two phenomenal shows: GREEK and BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

And while I’ll get to BUFFY later in the column, I do want to take a moment to give a huge shout-out to GREEK creators Shawn Piller and Lloyd Segan. Who, much to my surprise, may have delivered the most entertaining and heartfelt teen-centric drama of the year. So good in fact that I’m willing to overlook the incredibly unrealistic hookup I just witnessed between Rusty and Jen K. I mean seriously, in what dimension does a girl like that fall for a guy like Rusty. And no, I’m not bitter. Really.

Thanks for the genuine TV scoop last week. But just out of curiosity, do you ever have any scoop that doesn’t involve a DEGRASSI star? — Jenn

I would — if Josh Schwartz, Greg Berlanti, Josh Freidman, Marc Guggenheim, J.J. Abrams, and/or Roberto Orci would ever return my emails.

When will the new season of WEEDS air in Canada? — Lucy [and tons of others!]

Direct from my good friends at Showcase [the Canadian network that airs WEEDS], this TV Addict is thrilled to break the news that the fourth season of WEEDS will premiere on Showcase this fall [Week of September 1] and will air Sundays at 10pm.

Hey Jenn, how’s that for TV Scoop that doesn’t involve a DEGRASSI star?

Season Finale Round-Up: GOSSIP GIRL, THE BIG BANG THEORY & HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

May 20, 2008 By theTVaddict 14 Comments

season finale Round-Up: GOSSIP GIRL, THE BIG BANG THEORY & HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

If last night’s slew of season finales had all the trappings we’ve come to expect from your standard season ender, why exactly does this TV Addict feel so let down the morning after?
Is it possible that the writers of GOSSIP GIRL, THE BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER purposely want to depress us. So that the interminably long summer hiatus wouldn’t be so hard to endure.

Starting off with GOSSIP GIRL. Would it have killed the writers of television’s most addictive new drama to leave fans with a glimmer of happiness to hold onto over the summer? Was it really necessary to break up the awesome manipulative force that was Chuck and Blair mere minutes after they professed their love for one another? Could Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage not have taken a page from the BEVERLY HILLS 90210, DAWSON’S CREEK and/or EVERWOOD playbook? Who doesn’t remember the elation we all felt knowing Amy and Ephram were spending two weeks together in New York. Or that Pacey and Joey were off sailing the Atlantic. At the very least, GOSSIP GIRL could have given fans the summer to ‘pretend’ that Chuck and Blair were having the time of their life in Italy. Only to hit us with the harsh reality in September when ‘C’ and ‘B’ return to New York and reveal to ‘S’ and ‘N’ what Dylan and Kelly taught us decades ago [OMFG I’m old]. Traveling plus relationships equal a recipe for disaster!

2008 UpFront Buzz: 90210, BACK TO YOU, ALIENS IN AMERICA & ELI STONE

May 10, 2008 By theTVaddict 11 Comments

Since it’s way too too nice to be inside today in the TV Addict’s beautiful hometown of Toronto Canada, I’m going to make this quick. Ready… set… blog…

elly taylor jennie garth 90210 Michael Ausiello is reporting that the original bad-girl-turned-good Jennie Garth will be returning to the show that made her famous, signing on to BEVERLY HILLS 90210 Version 2.0 [this show really needs an official title] in a recurring capacity as get this — West Bev’s Guidance Counsellor. And while this TV Addict is thrilled with the news, surely I’m not the only one who finds it hard to believe that Kelly Taylor — the original Queen Bee of Beverly Hills high — is living the life she’s accustom to on a guidance counsellor salary. Unless of course she married rich. Hmmm…. Dylan McKay cameo anyone?

Two rare gems on television, smart shows that actually make this TV Addict laugh — ALIENS IN AMERICA and BACK TO YOU are both said to be on the chopping block this week. And while ALIENS axe comes as no surprise considering the CW put about $5 into marketing the show. BACK TO YOU’s sudden cancellation is quite the shock and disappointment. Especially since FOX is renewing ‘TIL DEATH [as in, what I wish for when when I’m watching the show] for a third season. Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton deserve a far better fate than this and if it helps make my argument, the epicenter of cultural cool [Entertainment Weekly] agrees.

Beverly Hills 90210 Casting Scoop

April 29, 2008 By theTVaddict 6 Comments

Shenae Grimes 90210

The news from America’s most famous zip code keeps getting better.

Our sources, and by ‘sources’ this TV Addict is of course referring to TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello just broke the news that ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT alum Jessica Walter has been tapped to play fading 70’s movie starlet/current booze hound Tabitha Mills on the CW’s much hyped 90210 re-boot.

Also joining the cast is current DEGRASSI star and fellow Canadian Shenae Grimes. Grimes will play Annie Mills, the beautiful and naive sixteen year old who undoubtedly becomes hot the moment she ditches her theatre-loving persona and meets whomever the show decides to cast as Dylan McKay ‘the bad boy’.

Lori Loughlin, Jessica Walter and Shenae Grimes. Is anyone else getting as excited for fall as I am?

GOSSIP GIRL: OMFG!

April 22, 2008 By theTVaddict 4 Comments

O: Overhyped, Not.
Where as most television events are overhyped to a point where fans are virtually guaranteed to be disappointed [exhibit ‘A’: Robin Sparkles, but more on that later], last night’s return of GOSSIP GIRL delivered the goods in a big way.

M: “Maybe I’m a total Bitch”
Yes Blair, you totally are. But that’s why we love you. In fact what made last night so much fun was that even whilst dolling out evil, this TV Addict wasn’t sure which team he was on — Team Jenny, Team Blair, or Team I’m Way Too Old To Be Watching This Show.

Actually, check that. I’m totally on Team Blair. When is Jenny going to clue into the fact that she doesn’t have to pretend to be rich to fit in? I mean seriously, who does she think she’s fooling? Everybody knows she’s from [gasp!] Brooklyn. And if television’s taught us anything, it’s that it’s okay if you’re poor as long as you’re good-looking and friends with the boy everybody wants to date. Jenny, do yourself a favor and shoplift pick up BEVERLY HILLS 90210 season one on DVD. I think you’ll learn a lot.

This just in: Rob Thomas is following in the footsteps of Dylan, Brandon, Valerie and Andrea by leaving 90210. According to E!Online, Thomas “is stepping aside in order to focus on his other two pilots, both for ABC.” Putting to rest the rumor that he’s off to Hong Kong to hang with Mr. and Mrs. Walsh.

March 19, 2008 By theTVaddict 8 Comments

Today’s Variety has leaked more details on the CW’s planned spin-off of BEVERLY HILLS 90210.

According to a casting breakdown, 90210: TNG will focus on the Walsh Mills family as Harrison “Harry” Mills decides to leave Minnesota St. Louis along with wife Celia to look after his ex-actress alcoholic mother Tabitha Mills.

Enter the 16 year old Mills twins. As per the casting breakdown, Annie is a theatre nerd [think Brenda, the University years] and Dixon is a supersmart bad boy [or a carbon copy of Dylan McKay]
