Question of the DAY: GHOST WHISPERER

November 14, 2008 By theTVaddict 9 Comments

ghost whisperer

Now this TV Addict is the first to admit that I’m a total neophyte when it comes to the GHOST WHISPERER. So forgive me for what might come off as somewhat ignorant question. But I’d seriously like to get to the bottom of last week’s momentous fan backlash surrounding the death of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s GHOST WHISPERER hubby David Conrad.

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but is Melinda not the Ghost Whisperer? And as a said communicator with the recently deceased, should she not be able to you know, whisper to her dead husband! In other-words, do anyone of the thousands of disgruntled GW fans want to take a moment to explain to us non-fans what all the fuss is about!

Why Is FRINGE Failing on Friday Nights?

November 18, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt 7 Comments

When it was first announced that FRINGE would be moving from Thursday nights to Friday nights, everyone was relieved. It was believed that if there was a night specially designed and protective of sci-fi shows, it was Fridays. After all that was the night that Fox’s THE X-FILES flourished for many years (before moving to Sundays) and it used to be the sci-fi “go to” night for Syfy channel as well, back in the hey-days of STARGATE: SG-1, STARGATE: ATLANTIS, EUREKA and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

But, in the past few years, an interesting trend developed. Fridays were no longer deemed “sci-fi” Fridays. It was not the sanctuary and safe haven for sci-fi shows. (All puns intended since Syfy still airs both SANCTUARY and HAVEN on Friday nights.) So with the abandonment of Syfy, which took its hardcore sci-fi shows to Monday and Tuesday nights (in order to secure more lucrative advertising and which ultimately killed off such sci-fi staples like STARGATE: UNIVERSE and CAPRICA), very few other broadcast networks wanted to venture into the forbidden territory of Friday nights – known for the past couple of decades as the Death Slot. It has been few and far between that TV shows could succeed on Friday nights. CBS’ GHOST WHISPERER managed to eek out a few years, and BLUE BLOODS also seems to be flourishing on Fridays – but both those series had big-name stars drawing the crowds. Plus, neither show is arguably considered sci-fi. [Read more…]

Ask the Addict: Spoilers for ENTOURAGE, GENERAL HOSPITAL, WEEDS & More!

May 26, 2011 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

If my Twitter feed is any indication, a slew of lucky TV types have already been given the opportunity to check out at least some of Fall’s new offerings. Are you one of the lucky ones, and if so, what our your thoughts thus far? — Mike
The TV Addict: Seeing as though we were only granted access to a select number of Fall pilots under the strict condition that we were not allowed to “review” them (Cue Boilerplate: Episodes were provided for planning purposes only. NOT FOR REVIEW. Episodes are rough cuts that contain temporary picture, graphics, audio and music) our thoughts on what is already shaping up to be a far more exciting September than its predecessor will unfortunately have to wait. Well, except to say one thing that we’re fairly confident the proverbial powers that be won’t mind us spilling: When it comes to shows that may-or-may-not star Emily Van Camp, Sarah Jones and Jennifer Morrison, we are already counting down the days until we can find out what happens next.

Any scoop on ENTOURAGE’s final season? — Alison
The TV Addict: Suffice it to say, after last season’s drug bust, Vince’s career won’t be the only thing going up in flames. So much so that your very own TV Addict has just learned that the gang’s not-so-humble abode will be going up in smoke thanks to a incredibly irresponsible amphibian named Turtle. Oh, and that’s not the only thing heating up this summer. According to sources, one gang member’s hard-partying ways may come back to haunt them in the form of a bun in the oven. But will it serve as the wake up call Vince needs to turn his life around? Stay tuned…

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Reasons Why GOSSIP GIRL Star Penn Badgley Really Needs to STFU!

January 27, 2011 By theTVaddict 13 Comments

There is nothing we at theTVaddict.com despise more than ungrateful actors. Which is why, in response to GOSSIP GUY Penn Badgley’s inexplicable insistence on dissing his day job — you know, the one that pays him ridiculous sums of money for what we’re fairly certain 99.999% of the country would kill for the opportunity to do — we wanted to take this opportunity to send him a message. A message that goes a little something like this: (a) STFU YOU UNGRATEFUL ACTOR! And (b) the grass is not always greener. As evidence by Today’s TV Addict Top 5.

Luke Perry
Best known for: Bring sideburns back as BEVERLY HILLS 90210’s original bad boy Dylan McKay.
Career trajectory: In an attempt to find more mature roles, Perry exited the series in 1994. What he found was a string of forgettable characters in equally forgettable made-for-television movies such as INVASION and THE TRIANGLE as well as short-lived dramas like JEREMIAH, WINDFALL and JOHN FROM CINCINNATI.
Where are they now: Perry can next be seen this Saturday January 29 in the Hallmark Movie Channel Original Premiere of GOODNIGHT FOR JUSTICE, directed by fellow 90210 star Jason Priestley.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas
Best known for: Popularizing the “three name” moniker in the late 90’s as HOME IMPROVEMENT’s breakout star Randy Taylor.
Career trajectory: After asking to be let out of his HOME IMPROVEMENT contract to focus on his “studies,” the young man responsible for single-handedly keeping the teen magazine industry afloat during the late 90’s parlayed his post-IMPROVEMENT fame into plethora of of box office duds that eventually relegated him to guest star status on the likes of 8 SIMPLE RULES FOR DATING MY TEENAGER DAUGHTER [RIP] and VERONICA MARS [Double RIP!].
Where are they now: Although rumored to have given up acting entirely in leu of attending Columbia University, Thomas’ whereabouts is currently unknown.

CBS Gets its Mid-Season Report Card

December 16, 2010 By theTVaddict 1 Comment

The Good: Unabashed President of the Alex O’Loughlin fan club, CBS Boss Nina Tassler — who let’s face it, has made it her personal mission to find a fit for the Australian import finally has something to cheer about — HAWAII FIVE-0 is a bonafide hit! Also breathing a deep sigh of relief is the Tiffany Network Executive responsible for the flurry of incredibly risky moves heading into the 2010/11 season. Much to @danharmon and @harthanson’s chagrin, THE BIG BANG THEORY’s big move to Thursday turned out even better than anyone could have theorized. And the same goes for aging shows like SURVIVOR and CSI (Both Miami and New York edition), all of which found new homes as well as new viewers in new time-slots. Meanwhile, on the comedy front, Chuck Lorre continues to do no wrong as MIKE & MOLLY fit snuggly into its post TWO AND A HALF MEN position, while the enjoyable, albeit rarely promoted RULES OF ENGAGEMENT managed to hold onto most of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER’s audience. The latter of which actually saw their audience grow as a result of showrunner’s Carter Bays and Craig Thomas’ recommitment to genuinely funny stories that actually resonate.

The Bad: Not laughing are MEDIUM fansm who will very soon see their show join GHOST WHISPERER in the great beyond. And while we’re on the subject of ghosts and mediums, let’s get down to what has continued to haunt CBS for the better part of the past decade. While the network gets serious credit for its unprecedented dominance in the total viewer department, things aren’t quite so rosy when one drills down to the highly coveted 18-49 demographic. Which is to say, that despite THE GOOD WIFE’s glowing reviews, awards and ridiculously sexy spreads in the likes of Entertainment Weekly and Harper’s Bazaar, Tuesday’s BIGGEST LOSER still managed to outperform it in the demo. Note to fans of THE DEFENDERS — assuming of course you’ve discovered how to access this new fangled “series of tubes” affectionately referred to as “the internet” — be afraid, be very afraid.
