TCA Press Tour 07 News Roundup: CBS

July 18, 2007 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

Does anyone else find it ironic that CBS — the least interesting network on screen — seems to be [at least as of late] the most interesting network off?

At this morning’s CBS executive session, MandyGate was in full swing as intrepid reporters tried numerous times to get CBS president Nina Tassler to comment on what really happened between Mandy Patinkin and the bosses at CRIMINAL MINDS. Needless to say, Tassler wasn’t talking and even went as far as to change the subject to another tabloid train-wreck — MINDS co-star Shemar Moore. Who recently found himself the subject of some very revealing photos! (Photos that you definitely should not be checking out at work.)

As the session continued, reporters hammered Tassler on more behind-the-scenes antics, this time focusing on the nasty backstage fighting between NCIS star Mark Harmon and showrunner, make that ex-showrunner Don Bellisario. Once again, Tassler skirted the issue, saying, “it’s the natural evolution of the show.” Translation: don’t mess with the talent.

In news this TV Addict genuinely cares about, Tassler revealed that there will be more clues with regards to the identity of the oft-mentioned ‘mother’ on CBS’ best show, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.

Quickly followed by a plethora of news we couldn’t care less about. The season premiere of COLD CASE will be an all-Nirvana episode. Jake will enter junior high on TWO AND A HALF MEN (no word on when the show will start to be funny) and on GHOST WHISPERER, we’ll learn Jim and Melinda didn’t choose Grandview, Grandview chose Jim and Melinda. I think we speak for everyone when I say, “I have no idea what Grandview is!”

Jenny’s This Week on TV

July 14, 2007 By theTVaddict 2 Comments

Welcome to a new week for This Week on TV! What a great week last week! Monk, Psych, Burn Notice (one of my new favorite shows!) & Eureka. I’m not sure you can get any better than that! Let’s see if this week has any other big moments…

SUNDAY

Sunday is the series premiere of 2 shows on Lifetime. First up is Side Order of Life at 8/7c. This show stars Jason Priestley (Beverly Hills 90210 & Tru Calling) & Diana-Maria Riva (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), along with Christopher Gartin and Marisa Coughlan. It centers on a young magazine photographer who suddenly re-evaluates her life and impending nuptials after receiving a “wake-up call from the universe.” I’ve actually heard good things about the show, so I think I’ll have to record it and see if it lives up to the hype!

Next up is State of Mind at 9/8c. This one stars Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under), Kevin Chamberlin (Heroes), Theresa Randle (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) & Devon Gummersal (My So-Called Life). “Created by practicing psychotherapist, author, professor and mother, Amy Bloom, the series follows a brilliant, take-charge family therapist whose personal problems rival those of her eclectic and offbeat patients after discovering her husband is cheating on her with their marriage counselor.” The executive producers are Greer Shephard and Michael Robin, who produce Nip/Tuck and The Closer, so how can I NOT watch??

Also on tonight:

Following that is the season premiere of The Dead Zone on USA at 10:01/9:01c. Johnny views visions of his friends in danger at a festival. He believes he has averted the disaster, but a fire later claims two people — changing Johnny’s life and the world’s fate.

Jenny’s This Week on TV

June 2, 2007 By theTVaddict 16 Comments

Welcome to a new week for This Week on TV! What a week! Jericho fans are still on a roll, having sent (as of just after midnight on Friday night) nearly 36,000 pounds of nuts to CBS and raised over $10,000 for Greensburg, Kansas. Still crossing my fingers that a miracle will happen and that and Veronica Mars will be picked up! lol Let’s see what up in reality this week, shall we? *sigh*

SUNDAY

Sunday is the series premiere of a new show on Lifetime called Army Wives. It’s about the struggles, dreams and friendships of a diverse group of women — and one man — living with their spouses and families on an active army post and the pressures and traditions of the military on those who are left behind while their partners serve their country. It stars Kim Delaney (NYPD Blue, Sally Pressman (Shark), Brigid Brannagh (Over There), Brian McNamara (The OC), Sterling K. Brown (the hysterical short-lived Starved), Wendy Davis (Commander-in-Chief), Drew Fuller (Charmed) & the terrific Catherine Bell (JAG). It’s a great, strong cast and my best friend’s husband is about to leave to go over to Iraq, so this one kind of hits close to home for me. It airs at 10/9c.

If you are a Food Network fan, the new season of The Next Food Network Star with 2 episodes starting at 9/8c. In these first 2 episodes, the eleven finalists meet for the first time, present an original dish to the selection committee, decorate a cake and cater a wedding.

If you are lucky like me and have more channels than you know what to do with, you should check and see if you get AmericanLife TV. Starting tonight and every Sunday night at 11/10c, they are airing 3 classic dramas from the premiere episode of each: St. Elsewhere, Hill Street Blues & L.A. Law. Read all about it here: TheTVAddict.com.

Also on tonight:

  • *Season Finale* – Entourage – HBO @ 10/9c
  • *Special* – 2007 MTV Movie Awards – MTV @ 8/7c
  • *Special* – Hollyoaks: Hollyoaks Special – BBC America @ 6:30/5:30c – (Show from the UK airing NEW on BBC America)
  • *Special* – Larry the Cable Guy: Morning Constitutions – Comedy Central @ 8/7c
  • *New* – Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School – VH1 @ 10/9c
  • *New* – Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels – A&E @ 9/8c
  • *New* – Sunset Tan – E! @ 10:30/9:30c

Amrie’s Take on TV: UpFront Preview (Part 2)

May 15, 2007 By theTVaddict 7 Comments

So, NBC threw out some shockers (at least FNL wasn’t cancelled. Sure, Friday at 10 is almost the kiss of death, but it’s fabulous, so yay!). With ABC set to change up their schedule and send some surprises our way, let’s see what’s coming for CBS, The CW, and FOX in the coming days!

CBS:

What do we not need to worry about?
Big Brother, Survivor – CBS isn’t big on the early renewals.

What shows are looking good for renewal, but haven’t gotten there yet?
48 Hours, 60 Minutes, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Ghost Whisperer, NCIS (especially now that Bellisario stepped down), Numb3rs, Rules of Engagement (who would have thought?), Shark, Two and a Half Men (really?), Without a Trace

What shows are riding that bubble?
The Amazing Race (not so much because ratings are down, but because they might not have a spot for it on the schedule right away), The Class (I would be sad to see it go…it got better at the end), How I Met Your Mother (seriously? I can’t imagine this being gone already), Jericho (I’ll be super upset if this is gone!!!), The New Adventures of Old Christine (I’m thinking it’s between HIMYM and Christine for the comedy spot…hopefully HIMYM stays), The Unit (no bad buzz here, but it’s probably the least “on the radar” procedural.

What should we prepare to say goodbye to, officially?
Armed and Famous, Close to Home (they never should have killed off Christian Kane’s character), Gameshow Marathon, Rock Star (if you hear nothing about it, chances are they aren’t working on it)

What shows did they already can?
3 Lbs (which is a shame, because I like Stanley Tucci), The Kind of Queens, Smith, Waterfront (I gotta be honest, I don’t remember this show even starting….)

What is still to come?
Creature Comforts and Pirate Master look to be interesting shows – we’ll see how they do.

Bottom line?
CBS has too many hits to know what to do with. To even consider getting rid of HIMYM or Jericho, it’s pure insanity. The latest talks point to neither of them getting the boot, but the fact that they aren’t incredibly safe just shows that CBS is doing really well and almost doesn’t know where to go from here.
