Today’s TV Addict Top 5: TV Tidbits that Really Grind Our Gears!

February 21, 2012 By theTVaddict 2 Comments

Online Piracy
This past weekend, The Oatmeal, an incredibly popular web comic released a strip that — depending on ones point of view — legitimized the illegal downloading of television shows online. And while there’s no denying that The Oatmeal makes some salient points in the comic’s trademark funny manner, what really grinds our gears is the “pro-piracy” message it invariably sends. Which is to say, just because a show such as GAME OF THRONES isn’t readily available when, where and how viewers want it, doesn’t mean it’s acceptable to steal it. At the risk of being unpopular, we’re not cool with online piracy. There’s a reason GAME OF THRONES isn’t currently available for viewing via the likes of Netflix, iTunes, and Amazon just yet. The company that invested hundreds of millions of dollars into creating one of the most ambitious and exciting television shows in recent memory wants to make a profit. So if that means viewers have have to wait until sometime after the March 6th DVD release in order for the company that produces it to maximize their profits, well, than so be it. It’s called show business for a reason.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
While there was an awful lot to enjoy about last night’s episode of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, including a fairly funny plot that revealed the secret to Marshall and Lily marital bliss (gambling!) and a surprise cameo by a certain red-headed comedian, there is one thing we’re not laughing at: That ending. Now don’t get us wrong, we were under no illusion that Ted and Robin were actually going to get together and in fact applaud what hopefully will serve as the impetus for two of our favorite unlucky-in-love characters to finally move forward with their lives. That said, we’d like to take this opportunity to call a moratorium on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER episodes that end with yet another ambiguous allusion to the infamous yellow umbrella that the show’s mythology has made clear is associated with the titular mother. Been there, done that. [Read more…]

We Irresponsibly Speculate on the Identity of TERRA NOVA’s Mole

November 22, 2011 By theTVaddict 2 Comments

If you follow us on Twitter, odds are fairly certain that you already know our feelings with regards last night’s fantastic episode of TERRA NOVA. What you may not know is that in response to last night’s tweet that went a little something like so — “Super solid episode of #TerraNova, although it would be nice if poor Allison Miller was given something, heck anything, to do.” — actress Allison Miller took it upon herself to respond, “@theTVaddict thanks – stick around for the next few 😉 ” And since it’s not exactly everyday that an actor goes out of their way to respond one of our 140 character gems, it suddenly dawned on us: Miller’s Skye is totally the TERRA NOVA mole that Commander Taylor has been so desperately searching for! But hey, don’t take our word for it, check out the irrefutable evidence we’ve compiled in our case against Skye, after the jump. [Read more…]

Meet Kurt’s Worst Nightmare in Our Exclusive Interview with GLEE’s Grant Gustin

November 9, 2011 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

Everybody knows that the course of true love never runs smooth. But the path is particularly bumpy when you’re a gay teen living in — of all places — Ohio and your boyfriend is as hot as he is talented. If all of that drama happens to unfolding at McKinley High School, home of the most romantically schizophrenic teens since a certain gossipy girl began charting every move made by her Upper East Side pals, you are clearly a character on the hit Fox series GLEE. And if your name is Kurt and you’ve spent the past few weeks snuggling up to a sexy singer named Blaine, it also means that it’s time for what we in the biz call a spoiler. Enter beautiful bad boy Sebastian, played by Grant Gustin, who is about to throw a major monkey wrench into Kurt’s romantic life. Want to know more about the guy you’ll soon be loving to hate? Read on, after the jump.  [Read more…]

The ABC’s of Summer TV

May 31, 2011 By theTVaddict 15 Comments

A IS FOR AMC, which just announced that BREAKING BAD will finally return for its much-anticipated fourth season this July 17th at 10PM.

B IS FOR THE BOYS [AND GIRLS] OF ROOKIE BLUE, Canada’s biggest small screen success story from last summer returns for a second action-packed season this June 23rd on ABC (Global TV in Canada)

C IS FOR CABLE, once the home to movies you already saw in theaters four years ago has now officially been crowned the savior of summer. ABC Family, BBC America, FX, Lifetime, TNT, TV LAND and USA, we salute you.

D IS FOR DEPRESSED, not just as a result of the hiatus many of our favorite shows are on this summer, but also for our inability to subscribe to DirecTV which will unspool DAMAGES fourth season starting this July 13th at 9PM on their “Channel 101.”

F IS FOR FALLING SKIES, TNT’s enthralling and surprisingly addictive — at least based on the first six episode we’ve had the chance to screen — new science fiction offering from Steven Spielberg that chronicles the aftermath of a War of the Worlds-style alien invasion. Simply put, it’s what V should have been.

G IS FOR THE GREAT OUTDOORS, which, we sure as heck hope will live up to their billing this summer. Seriously, have you see the CW’s schedule?

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Questions with RUNNING WILDE Star Keri Russell

September 28, 2010 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

keri russell

With FELICITY being off the air for nearly a decade now, what was the impetus for your return to television?
Keri Russell: Because I had such a great run with FELICITY, which was such a positive experience in every way, I certainly wasn’t shopping around to do a series again. But when I read the RUNNING WILDE pilot — being a huge ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT fan — I just was so taken by Mitch Hurwitz that I couldn’t pass it up and couldn’t say no. I think Mitch’s relationship has been with FOX before, so it was a good fit and it’s just been a delight. It’s hilarious. I feel like I’m hanging out with my older brother and all his cool friends or something and I’m just tagging along every day.

Coming from FELICITY and film, what has it been like flexing your comedic muscles?
This show is unlike anything I’ve really done before, it’s such a different ride and I feel like I’m learning so much every day. With Mitch, it’s fast and furious where he’s rewriting things seconds before we shoot them. And I’m not talking a line, I’m talking pages of rewrites where he says, “Go ahead… I’ll just stand off to the side and I’ll give you your line.” I say, “Mitch, that’s not how it works,” but by-the-way, for Will [Arnett] it is. Will is just so sharp like that and they have such a quick, I don’t know, just such a … relationship that they just know each other’s jokes. So yes, it’s working completely different muscles. But I just have to say it’s a delight and I’m enjoying it so much. Plus, I’m getting to work in New York, which is wonderful, where I live. They’re super smart, they’re funny and it’s just refreshing for me. It’s an absolute change of pace and I’m just laughing all day.

Your TV Tech Fix: Why Are You Still Using Your Cable Company’s DVR?

April 22, 2010 By Matt Whitlock 11 Comments

While common US vernacular would have you believe otherwise, the fact of the matter is that most cable subscribers use a generic DVR (or PVR in Canada) provided by their cable company. TiVo, the stand-alone boxes that pioneered the time-shifting category make up a small relatively small fraction of the installed DVR base today.

How can it be that pretty much everyone agrees TiVo DVRs are significantly better (are easier to use, offer more innovative features, give you more spacious hard drives, and even now integrate with things like HP MediaSmart Servers for expansion), yet STILL opt for the craptastic box from the cable company?

Let’s find out what’s holding everyone back, shall we?

TV Addict Interview: LIPSTICK JUNGLE Star Robert Buckley

March 20, 2008 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

robert buckley kirby lipstick jungle
By: Amrie Cunningham [My Take on TV]

Fans of NBC’s LIPSTICK JUNGLE have completely fallen for Robert Buckley, aka Kirby Atwood, aka Nico’s hotter-than-hot man-on-the-side. He has charm, charisma, and isn’t hard to look at! In celebration of Lipstick Jungle’s first season finale, I spent some time chatting with Rob about the show, where he wants to see his character go, and the real reason he was upset that the writers went on strike.

I want to just start by saying that I have completely gotten hooked on the show in recent weeks, and I really like your character.
Robert Buckley: Oh thank you! It’s funny. I told everyone, all my friends who started watching it, stick with the show because it really picks up momentum. I think we’re seeing it now, a lot more people are tuning in and getting wrapped up in the storyline.

They’ve really started to flesh out the characters and you learn more about the characters that have been on the screen. I’m excited at the prospect of more episodes to come.
Hopefully so, we have the season finale, and we’ll know shortly if we’re coming back for a season 2.
