Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Shows We Love… Despite Not Knowing The Character’s Names
Sometimes, no matter how much we enjoy a show, it’s tough to take to friends about because, well, we find it difficult to put names to the faces of the characters. So we wind up saying, “Oh my God, how cool was it when that girl, you know, the one with the drug problem? Hooked up with the guy who always has bad hair!” Here, in no particular order, are shows we watch every week… but would be hard-pressed to talk about without IMDB’s help.
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS
The lead chick’s name is Aria. That’s pretty memorable. Otherwise, it’s the bisexual girl, the one whose mom was on both versions of MELROSE PLACE, the blind one and the girl who is already on, like, her third potential love interest.
ARMY WIVES
Lifetime’s feel-good female-centric drama is as easy to ingest as comfort food. As for our favorite wife, it’s hard to choose between the woman who was blown up on a jet ski on ALL MY CHILDREN and the fiesty southern woman who isn’t the fiesty southern one who is divorcing her husband.
THE GATES
Vampires and witches and succubi… oh my! Character names? Um, there’s the vampire couple… and the witch who runs a spa… and the teenage succubus…
SUPERNATURAL
Okay, confession time: Sometimes, we forget which is Sam and which is Dean. Come on! It’s tough! I mean, the one who plays Sam used to play Dean on GILMORE GIRLS!
THE HILLS
Sure, we know the ubiquitous Heidi and Spencer. People living in caves probably know the civility-challenged, surgically-enhanced, reality-eschewing pair who are more harmful to organized religion than the freaks at Westboro Baptist Church. But Lauren, Kristin, Audrina and Lo are as indistinguishable from one another as they are from actual living, breathing human beings. ![]()

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: A Celebration of All Things Canadian!

Contrary to what FOX News may have led you to believe, there is more to Canada than socialized medicine and poutine (Poutine for the uninitiated being a bizarre concoction of french fries, cheese curds and gravy that — trust us — tastes a helluva lot better than it looks). Which is why in celebration of Canada’s 143rd birthday today, we thought we’d take the opportunity to remind our friends south of the 49th parallel of some of the very important contributions the Great White North has made to the world of television.
Agonizing sexual tension
Admittedly, probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Canada. That said, you probably had no idea that two of television’s most celebrated (or reviled, depending on your point of view) will-they-or-won’t-they’s are intrinsically Canadian. Not only do CASTLE stars Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic hail from Edmonton and Hamilton respectively, the long and drawn out courtship between BONES’ Booth and Brennan is the brainchild of none other than Hart Hanson, a University of Toronto educated writer/producer who first made a name for himself on some of Canada’s most iconic series including the likes of READY OR NOT, ROAD TO AVONLEA and TRADERS.
True Love
What do Bill Compton, Eric Northman and Damon and Stefan Salvatore all have in common? Well, aside from that pesky aversion to the sun and predilection for human blood — the object of all of their affections just so happen to be two of Canada’s most popular exports: Sookie Stackhouse played by Winnipeg born Anna Paquin and Elena Gilbert brought to life by Toronto’s very-own Nina Dobrev.

An In Depth Look At… GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Deadly Plot!
They say that those who don’t remember the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat that, and it would seem nobody better epitomizes that than GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Sonny Corinthos. Time and again, the mobster’s lifestyle puts those around him in danger and yet he continues making decisions which guarantee the same results. This week, his decision to plant a bomb in the car of rival mobster Johnny Zacchara goes horribly awry, putting yet another of Sonny’s loved ones in danger.
“Sonny hates being told he’s a bad father,” says Richard Simms, executive editor of Soaps In Depth magazine. “But he has a pretty awful habit of putting his children in the line of fire. His decision to marry Claudia indirectly led to Michael being shot in the head and spending a year in a coma. Sonny shot Dante in the chest. And now, it’s Kristina’s turn. She’s pretending to date Johnny just to tick her dad off. Well, mission accomplished, because that’s what pushes him to plant a bomb in the guy’s car!”
