Sunday is the season premiere of 2 of my favorites. First up is The 4400 on USA at 9/8c. Following that is the season premiere of The Dead Zone on USA at 10:01/9:01c. Johnny views visions of his friends in danger at a festival. He believes he has averted the disaster, but a fire later claims two people — changing Johnny’s life and the world’s fate.

Thank you to all the fans, new and old, of Jericho that helped by donating peanuts, sending letters, making calls & more to help save one of my favorite shows ever! Also tonight, if you are fortunate enough to have HBO, you can watch the series premiere of John From Cincinnati at 10:05/9:05c. Luke Perry, Ed O’Neill, Rebecca DeMornay star and it was created by David Milch (who also created & executive produced Deadwood).

Finally, tonight is sadly the series finale of The Sopranos on HBO at 9/8c. If you are a fan of the family, don’t miss it!

ACTRA Protests Canadian Broadcasters, Does Anyone Care?

June 7, 2007 By theTVaddict 9 Comments

actra protest global tv

While many assume the biggest surprise from yesterday’s Global TV UpFront was Adrian Pasdar’s beard (Did his character really blow up in HEROES May finale? Or is he secretly preparing for a guest spot on CAVEMAN?), this TV Addict was more taken aback by the mob of protesters that had organized in front of Massey Hall prior to the start of yesterday’s event.

The protesters, it turns out are members of ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) and were out in full force to voice their displeasure with the way in which they believe Canadian broadcasters are neglecting the Canadian television industry.

“Canada’s private broadcasters are eager to hand over more than $250 million dollars on new American dramas and reality shows, when they should be investing in new Canadian dramas in their own backyards,” said Richard Hardacre ACTRA’s National President. “They spend millions of dollars on American shows in what amounts to an annual crap shoot that pays out few winners.”

Amidst this horde of actors were notable TV stars including Peter Keleghan, Gordon Pinsent, Shirley Douglas, Colin Mochrie and Wendy Crewson.

“We’re here to say that they [the networks] have a responsibility to the Canadian public out of the millions and millions of dollars they make from advertising, by showing American shows, to put some back into Canadian content.” explained Wendy Crewson, “We need to hear our stories, we need to see our people and our stories on the airwaves during prime-time hours.”

Yet the question remains, do Canadians care if our broadcasters produce original Canadian content or are we content with simply enjoying the same great shows as our American friends? Needless to say, this TV Addict could care less about telling ‘our stories’ and here are a few reasons why.

Jenny’s This Week on TV

June 2, 2007 By theTVaddict 16 Comments

Welcome to a new week for This Week on TV! What a week! Jericho fans are still on a roll, having sent (as of just after midnight on Friday night) nearly 36,000 pounds of nuts to CBS and raised over $10,000 for Greensburg, Kansas. Still crossing my fingers that a miracle will happen and that and Veronica Mars will be picked up! lol Let’s see what up in reality this week, shall we? *sigh*

SUNDAY

Sunday is the series premiere of a new show on Lifetime called Army Wives. It’s about the struggles, dreams and friendships of a diverse group of women — and one man — living with their spouses and families on an active army post and the pressures and traditions of the military on those who are left behind while their partners serve their country. It stars Kim Delaney (NYPD Blue, Sally Pressman (Shark), Brigid Brannagh (Over There), Brian McNamara (The OC), Sterling K. Brown (the hysterical short-lived Starved), Wendy Davis (Commander-in-Chief), Drew Fuller (Charmed) & the terrific Catherine Bell (JAG). It’s a great, strong cast and my best friend’s husband is about to leave to go over to Iraq, so this one kind of hits close to home for me. It airs at 10/9c.

If you are a Food Network fan, the new season of The Next Food Network Star with 2 episodes starting at 9/8c. In these first 2 episodes, the eleven finalists meet for the first time, present an original dish to the selection committee, decorate a cake and cater a wedding.

If you are lucky like me and have more channels than you know what to do with, you should check and see if you get AmericanLife TV. Starting tonight and every Sunday night at 11/10c, they are airing 3 classic dramas from the premiere episode of each: St. Elsewhere, Hill Street Blues & L.A. Law. Read all about it here: TheTVAddict.com.

Also on tonight:

  • *Season Finale* – Entourage – HBO @ 10/9c
  • *Special* – 2007 MTV Movie Awards – MTV @ 8/7c
  • *Special* – Hollyoaks: Hollyoaks Special – BBC America @ 6:30/5:30c – (Show from the UK airing NEW on BBC America)
  • *Special* – Larry the Cable Guy: Morning Constitutions – Comedy Central @ 8/7c
  • *New* – Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School – VH1 @ 10/9c
  • *New* – Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels – A&E @ 9/8c
  • *New* – Sunset Tan – E! @ 10:30/9:30c
  • *New* – The Simple Life – E! @ 10/9c

A Thank-You From theTVaddict

May 25, 2007 By theTVaddict 10 Comments

My fellow TV Addicts,

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who’s stopped by theTVaddict.com throughout the past few months. From the Paley Festival and our SUPERNATURAL set visit, to last week’s Network UpFront coverage, May Sweeps and everything in-between, theTVaddict.com keeps getting bigger and bigger.

And for that my friends I have you to thank. Thank you for stopping by the site, for reading and most of all, for commenting. Seriously, if you knew how excited I get reading comments, well… let’s just say it may be a sad commentary on my personal life!

That said, we’re not sitting on our laurels. Starting next week and throughout the summer you can expect sneak previews of each and every fall pilot (yes, we’re hooked on GOSSIP GIRL already!), fantastic contests, interviews with some of your favourite stars as well as trips to Comic Con 2007 and one top-secret-super-set visit that is quite literally out of this world.

So Stay Tuned… and have a fantastic holiday weekend (assuming you live in the US).

theTVaddict.com Hits the Wall Street Journal

May 21, 2007 By theTVaddict 7 Comments

Amidst all the excitement of last week’s network UpFronts, theTVaddict neglected to reveal one his most exciting adventures.

It’s 12:30AM on Tuesday night, and I just arrived back at my place after an incredibly long, yet exciting day (it’s New York, are there any other kind?). Before I head to bed, I check my email. Turns out, a friend from the CW had emailed to congratulate me about being mentioned in the Wall Street Journal. Now, I’m not ashamed to admit that I don’t generally read the Wall Street Journal (this TV Addict prefers magazines with ‘weekly’ or ‘TV’ in the title!) so naturally I had no idea. And as I sat in front of my computer screen, pondering what would come from my fifteen minutes of fame, I knew what I had to do. Brave New York at 1AM and find myself a copy of today’s Wall Street Journal.

1AM Midtown Manhattan. I run into a twenty-four hour Starbucks by Lincoln Center looking for today’s edition of the Journal. The Barista points to a kind older woman in the corner drinking coffee. I kindly ask to borrow her copy of the paper for a second. Much to my absolute shock, the article in question is on the front page of the paper. I quickly turn to page A12 and scan for my name. Holy Frak! theTVaddict, or more specifically my real name ‘Daniel Malen’ is quoted in the WSJ with regards to an article I wrote on my SUPERNATURAL set visit. Right away I ask the woman if I can have her copy when she’s finished. She politely says no.

Taken aback (after-all, who keeps yesterday’s paper?) I ask the Barista where I can grab another copy of the paper. He says to head up the street, where I quickly run only to find every copy sold out. Out of breath (seriously, I’m a TV addict, I don’t do exercise) I soon realize that the odds of finding today’s WSJ at 1:30AM are not good. Even in the city that apparently never sleeps.

Exasperated I pause for a moment to catch my breath. From behind me I hear a voice. “Can I help you with anything”. I turn around and blurt out, “I was quoted in today’s Wall Street Journal, I’m need to find a copy.” The man says, “not a problem, I carry one around in my back pocket.”

Seriously?

Turns out, Brian Banks (pictured above) is homeless and one of his few pleasures each day is reading the Wall Street Journal cover to cover. And lucky for me, Brian’s more than happy to part with today’s paper in return for a cash donation which I’m only to happy to offer.

theTVaddict.com is mentioned in an article that discusses the burgeoning power of blogs in the world of television. You can read the article in its entirety by clicking here.
