Weekend TV Random Musings

February 12, 2007 By theTVaddict 33 Comments

We at theTVaddict.com would like to offer up a tiny piece of advice for SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE head honcho Lorne Michaels. When choosing your host for the coming week of SNL, run it by the writer’s room first. If the best idea you can come up for an opening monologue is yet another unfunny song, it’s time to find another host. The moment Forest Whitiker was handed the mic on Saturday night, it was pretty clear that all we were in store for a string of unfunny sketches. SNL’s mandate is to be funny — it’s not AMERICAN IDOL.

After watching last night’s Helo-centric episode of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA all I could think about was whether I missed something. Who exactly are these Saggiterons? Am I supposed to sympathize with their plight? Did I miss an episode that explained all of this? What the Frak is going on!

Can Senator McCallister please win the Republican nomination for President so thatwe can have THE WEST WING 2.0 starring President Rob Lowe and First Lady Calista Flockhart. I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face — if you’re not watching BROTHERS & SISTERS on ABC you’re missing out. It’s quietly becoming my favourite show of the new season (with FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS trailing closely behind for second).

SUPERNATURAL fans sure are insanely dedicated to their show (in a good way!). See last week’s post entitled, “Why Is No One Watching Supernatural?” 99 Comments and counting… theTVaddict hasn’t seen such an outpouring of affection for any show since, well never. Congrats SUPERNATURAL fans, your dedication has convinced me to give the show a try this Thursday night. Stay Tuned…

General Hospital Spin-off Hits Soapnet!

February 12, 2007 By theTVaddict 8 Comments

In a surprising move, SOAPnet has greenlit a 13-episode sudser dubbed GENERAL HOSPITAL: NIGHT SHIFT, set to air later this summer. “We are committed to growing the soap genre and the GENERAL HOSPITAL franchise by extending its storyline only on SOAPnet,” said Brian Frons, President, Daytime, ABC Television Group. At a time when soap ratings are down across the board — and one, PASSIONS, was recently cancelled — this is seen as a bold move from the cable network which has built its reputation upon giving soap fans an opportunity to watch their favorite shows at night and during weekend marathons. “NIGHT SHIFT will launch with an audience that is already dedicated and compelled to know more about what happens on the night shift at the hospital,” continued Frons.

Jenny’s This Week on TV

January 7, 2007 By theTVaddict 2 Comments

Hey everyone! Lots of new stuff on this week, including the premiere of several shows, including some fan favorites, so let’s jump right in!

SUNDAY

Sunday starts off the week strong with the premiere episodes of 7 (yes, SEVEN) shows! Catch the season premieres of The Apprentice: Los Angeles on NBC at 9:30/8:30c, The L Word on Showtime at 10/9c and the winter premiere of Hogan Knows Best on VH1 at 10/9c.

For new shows, check out the following:

Grease: You’re the One That I Want on NBC at 8/7c, has 3 judges holding open casting calls to find a man and a woman to play the lead roles in a Broadway production of “Grease”. The ORIGINAL Sandy, Olivia Newton-John offers advice to hopefuls. This was one of my favorite movies growing up. I’m excited for this and am hoping it won’t be TOO lame! lol

Over on VH1, Surreal Life Fame Game is on at 9/8c. Watch former Surreal Lifers compete in an out-of-control contest to see which celebrity is the most famous of them all! Probably going to be horrendous, but just wanted to let you guys know it was starting tonight! lol

Also premiering on VH1 tonight is Shooting Sizemore, starring yes, Tom Sizemore. lol Track the struggles of newly-sober problem actor Tom Sizemore as he tries to stay clean and revive his career. Why you’d want to do that, I dunno… hah

Finally, check out MTV at 10/9c for I’m with Rolling Stone. No, not THE Rolling StoneS, but the magazine, Rolling Stone. Follow six young writers with the opportunity of a lifetime — a summer working as writers for Rolling Stone in New York City. They’ll fight over assignments, struggle to land celebrity interviews and race against deadlines… all in hopes of seeing their words and bylines in the pages of the legendary music magazine.

Also on tonight:

  • American Dad *New Episode*
  • Brothers & Sisters *New Episode*
  • Cold Case *New Episode*
  • Extreme Makeover: Home Edition *New Episode*
  • Reba *New Episode*
  • The Simpsons *New Episode*

Also important tonight is the season finale of 4 shows: Sleeper Cell & Dexter on Showtime and Breaking Bonaduce & Celebrity Paranormal Project on VH1.

On Dexter, Dexter follows clues in his rescue attempt; Rita’s ex tries to convince her that Dexter is too dangerous. I have a friend that’s recorded all the eps so far so I can’t wait to get a DVD to watch when it finishes. I’ve heard this show is great!

Random TV Tidbits: LOST, The CW and Entertainment Weekly

December 5, 2006 By theTVaddict 6 Comments

According to Variety, ABC has decided to move LOST to 10PM when it returns from hiatus on February 7. The move is an effort by the alphabet network to protect one of its best performers from the juggernaut that is AMERICAN IDOL. This TV Addict applauds the move as AMERICAN IDOL is a cultural phenomenon and competing against it is pretty much pointless.

THE CW had finally made it to Itunes. SUPERNATURAL is currently available for download by clicking here. This TV Addict’s question, how long until VERONICA MARS makes an appearance on iTunes. If there’s one show that could benefit from more exposure — and repeat viewings — it’s Neptune’s Hottest Detective.

Was anyone else disappointed with this weeks issue of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. The issue featured ‘The Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide’ which was essentially a six page promotional piece for Entertainment Weekly advertisers. Not only that, EW writers thought that the Microsoft Zune was the perfect gift for the Jim Halpert in your life. Anyone with half a brain knows that Jim Halpert would never own a Zune, he’s an iPod guy all the way. Seriously, a Zune! Who owns that?
