This Week on TV

September 30, 2006 By theTVaddict 2 Comments

Gooooooood morning TV fans! I *gasp* can’t *gasp* keep *gasp* up *gasp*! Is anyone else feeling that way? It’s several weeks into the fall season and NOTHING has been canceled yet! I know I’m probably jinxing it, but seriously, it’s driving me crazy! I started watching almost every new show, assuming that several would be canceled pretty quickly. After all, last season, Crumbs was canceled after 5 eps, Emily’s Reasons Why Not after 1, One Ocean View after 2, Head Cases after 2, Kitchen Confidential after 4 *cry*, the list goes on and on and on! But already 1 month into the season and everything is still on the air! Sure, a few are on the bubble but… I dunno if I can keep up if nothing goes away, especially with Veronica Mars, The Nine & others starting in October. But enough about that, let’s see what’s cluttering up my DVRs this week!

Sunday starts off the busy week with some season premieres and some finales as well. Can you imagine a show being on the air for 17 season that ISN’T Law & Order? America’s Funniest Home Videos does just that as they start their season today. Not on the air as long, Everybody Hates Chris, All of Us, Girlfriends, The Game, House of Carters & Dexter also start theirs. MANY people are looking forward to Dexter on Showtime. It’s based on Jeff Lindsay’s novel “Darkly Dreaming Dexter” and is a crime thriller that tells the story of a strange man named Dexter Morgan. He’s a successful forensics pathologist. But he also has a 2nd career hunting down & murdering vicious criminal who have not been caught or punished by the law. Should be VERY interesting! This week is also the last ep of The War At Home before the hiatus for baseball and new episodes of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, The Amazing Race, Cold Case & Without a Trace.

This Week on TV

September 24, 2006 By theTVaddict 2 Comments

Hey tv fans! Are you enjoying the new fall season so far? I know I am! I’m keeping up fairly well so far, but unless something gets canceled soon, I may be in trouble this week! lol Let’s get to it!

Sunday starts the week off strong with quite a few new episodes. My personal picks are The Amazing Race, the 2-hour episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (they go to Alaska!), the season finale of Three Moons Over Milford and the premieres of Brothers & Sisters on ABC. You can also catch the season premieres of Cold Case, Without a Trace & Desperate Housewives along with new episodes of NFL Football: Denver Broncos at New England Patriots, The Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy & The War at Home.

thursday fall tv preview schedule

greys anatomy tv fall previewGREY’S ANATOMY (9PM ABC, Returns Sept. 21) McDreamy, McVet, Va-Jay-Jay. If these words mean nothing to you, then you’re missing out on television’s hottest, sorry, McDreamiest drama. But rest easy, it’s not too late to jump on the GREY’S bandwagon. The first and second seasons of GREY’s ANATOMY are out on DVD. Pick them up and before you can say McDreamy you’ll be hooked on the best medical drama since ER.

For it’s third season GREY’S is prepared to pull out all the stops to remain on television’s most talked about show. Guest stars already on board include Embeth Davidtz (SCHINDLER’S LIST), Abigail Breslin (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE) and Diahann Carroll (as Burke’s mother). One return fans shouldn’t expect is that of Izzie’s departed fiance Denny. But SUPERNATURAL creator Eric Kripke is happy to point out, “If you want to see Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in bed, tune in to SUPERNATURAL!” Thanks Eric, we’ll pass that along to Izzie!

the office tv fall previewTHE OFFICE (8:30PM NBC, Returns Sept. 21) The question on every OFFICE fans mind this summer wasn’t who stole the $3,000? (see: THE OFFICE webisodes), it was what’s the deal with Jim and Pam? In May’s season finale, NBC’s hottest couple since Ross and Rachel finally kissed, after Jim surprised Pam by professing his love to her. Creator Greg Daniels promises a resolution [of sorts] in the season premiere, telling the readers of Entertainment Weekly to be sure to tune into the first episode. Like there was a chance we wouldn’t!

shark tv fall previewSHARK (10PM CBS, Debuts Sept. 21) James Wood could read the yellow pages and keep this TV addict riveted. For a full review of CBS’s latest legal procedural, click here.

Also premiering tonight, but not on the TV addict’s MUST WATCH LIST
CSI (CBS, 9PM)
SIX DEGREES (ABC, 10PM)

My Take on TV

September 19, 2006 By theTVaddict 1 Comment

I, as much as I love TV and everything involved in TV, love color coding things more than I enjoy doing anything in the world. I like making charts just so I can get my markers out and color code it. I like to buy 25-packs of Sharpies, just to color code. My dry erase calendar in the kitchen? Arranged and organized according to colors.

So what does my obsession with markers have to do with TV and why do I bring it up now?

The (almost unhealthy to the point of obsessive-compulsive) addiction to charts and markers has crashed full on into my addiction to TV, and I’ve created a lovely (not-laminated-but-it-should-be) grouping of what I’m going to watch as the season goes on.

This Week on TV: Season Premiere Week!

September 17, 2006 By theTVaddict 8 Comments

On your mark… Get set… Go! That’s what I feel like this week for TV. Like I’m off to the races. I can already hear the music. Get ready folks, cause TV Premiere Week has officially arrived!

Sunday starts off the week with a 2-hour Extreme Makeover: Home Edition special (with guest team-leader Marlee Matlin) and an hour and a half season premiere of The Amazing Race. Yay! Also catch new episodes of NFL Football: Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys on NBC, The Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy and The War At Home on FOX, and Three Moons Over Milford, in which residents of Milford bare their souls to one another when the town priest gives up his profession. Also, don’t forget that the WB Network is coming to a close soon! Tonight, they are showing the pilot episodes of 2 cult classics: Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Dawson’s Creek. Don’t miss your chance to see Katie Holmes WITHOUT being under Tom Cruise’s spell! 😉 (Starting earlier in the afternoon are the pilots of Felicity and Angel as well! Wow! So much good tv in a row!)

Fall TV Preview: Thursday Schedule

September 17, 2006 By theTVaddict 5 Comments

thursday fall tv preview schedule

ugly betty tv fall previewUGLY BETTY (8PM ABC, Debuts Sept. 28) Historically, Thursday nights have been home to television’s most beautiful faces. We fell in love with Rachel’s hairstyle, Clooney’s eyes and the entire cast of the OC. But come September 28, a girl named Betty is about to change Thursday nights forever.

America Ferrerra (THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS) stars as UGLY BETTY. An ‘ugly duckling’ who lands an entry-level job at Manhattan’s most glamorous fashion magazine (think: THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA). “It’s a makeover show from the inside,” Said Ferrerra to Entertainment Weekly. “Betty is beautiful and charming and intelligent on the inside. The audience will fall in love with her because of that, not because of who she is on the outside.”

ABC has already fallen for BETTY, moving the show from the graveyard of Friday night to the lead-in for GREY’S ANATOMY (ABC’s hottest show). Now all that’s left is for America (the country, not the actress) to fall in love with the show as well. America loves a fish-out-of-water story,” executive producer Salma Hayek told EW, “I have no doubt that [UGLY BETTY] will be incredibly successful.” This TV addict couldn’t agree more. UGLY BETTY, with any luck, will be gracing the cover of magazines for years to come.

greys anatomy tv fall previewGREY’S ANATOMY (9PM ABC, Returns Sept. 21) McDreamy, McVet, Va-Jay-Jay. oc tv fall previewTHE OC (9PM FOX, Returns Nov. 2) After a critically boring third season, the writers [and fans] of THE OC are hoping Marissa’s death injects some much needed energy into the show. The fourth season, starting late thanks to Baseball will jump forward a few months after Marissa’s death, as we see how the gang has adjusted to College in addition to dealing with the the death of their friend. Not surprisingly, Ryan isn’t handling it well. Rumors run rampant that Ryan will join a ‘fight club’. Those writers really will use any excuse to have Ryan in a ‘wife beater’ t-shirt!

Viewers wary of yet another season of ‘angry Ryan’ should take solice in the fact that the OC writers have promoted two of last season’s bright spots to series regulars. Returning full time is Marissa’s sis Kaitlin Cooper (Willa Holland) and Taylor (Autumn Reeser). Also on board for a guest stint is EVERWOOD alum Chris Pratt (Bright Abbott). Television executives take note: Any show that uses any cast member from EVERWOOD is much watch in our books.

cw tv fall previewSMALLVILLE (8PM CW, Returns Sept. 28) I have a surprising confession to make, and considering I’m a self professed TV addict, this may shock some of you. Okay, here it goes (deep breath) — I haven’t actually watched last season’s finale of SMALLVILLE. It’s saved on my PVR, but I’ve yet to watch. Why you ask? I’ll tell you.

SMALLVILLE infuriates me. The show has so much potential, and at times can be fantastic. I really enjoy the Clark vs. Lex mythology, while at the same times want to gauge my eyes out everytime Clark and Lana play out their inevitably doomed romantic storyline. Don’t get be wrong, I have nothing against Kristin Kreuk (the actress who plays Lana), it’s just unfortunate that the ‘Lana’ storylines completely suck out all the energy and entertainment from the show.

That said, I’m a sucker for the Superman Mythos and will definitely be tuning into the sixth season premiere.

Watch CW Shows Early on MSN

August 31, 2006 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

The new CW Network is finally stepping into the digital age. The CW is partnering with MSN to premiere episodes from four of its fall-season prime-time series online and before their broadcast debuts.

Premiere episodes from AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL (Sept. 13), EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS (Sept. 24), SUPERNATURAL (Sept. 21), VERONICA MARS (Sept. 26) and the new CW drama RUNAWAY (Sept. 18) will be offered free and without commercial interruption on msn.com for one week before their on-air broadcast.

Naturally this TV addict will not be watching RUNAWAY in protest for EVERWOOD’s cancellation. Additionally, I’m not sure why networks keep partnering up with MSN? No doubt, MAC users will not be able to watch the video on MSN (Microsoft).

Jenny’s Fall TV Preview

August 11, 2006 By theTVaddict 9 Comments

My Fall TV schedule is so jam packed that I’m afraid my DVRs are going to be splitting at the seams! As you can see from my last This Week on TV post, I watch almost everything! Thank goodness for working from home!

Ok, will give you a bit of info. I am a Database Manager for an online deals website. So basically I set my own schedule. I’m a night owl as well. So most of my tv watching and working gets done in the weeeeeeee hours of the morning. Like at 2am. And that’s ok, except I have an 8 year old son who thinks he should be able to count on his mom waking up earlier than noon to feed him breakfast and spend time with him. Geez! 😉 During the school year (which is the tv season 😉 ), thankfully, I can go back to sleep for a bit after he leaves for school. Then I spend all afternoon working and then work late at night again. With my son being around, I can’t really watch anything live. Thank goodness for 2 dual-tuner DVRs, a VCR and my computer! Not sure what I’d do without them! lol

My Take on TV

June 20, 2006 By theTVaddict 19 Comments

It is never to early to start dreaming about the ideal plot for our favorite shows, come September and beyond. Since the minute my shows ended, I was already thinking about what the writers could do to make their next season better, and what the writers could do to try and save the mockery of television they had somehow created. Here are my thoughts on what will make great shows phenomenal, and turn those “I’ll catch them if I can” shows into can’t-miss hits!

STUDIO 60 on the move

May 25, 2006 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

This afternoon NBC held a press conference (call) to announce some much anticipated changes to its fall schedule. Changes that were made necessary when ABC announced they were scheduling their smash hit GREY’S ANATOMY on Thursday at 9pm. As a result, STUDIO 6 is moving to Monday’s at 10pm, bumping MEDIUM to mid-season. Fo fellow TV addicts, this comes as welcome news, as Thursday at 9pm was becoming way too popular with CSI, Supernatural, Grey’s Anatomy, Studio 60 and the OC? What was a TV addict to do?
