ORPHAN BLACK Redux: Adventures in Babysitting, Sisterly Bonding and Rehab

May 17, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

OrphanBlack_Pair_2_FN

In last week’s ORPHAN BLACK episode “Governed As It Were By Chance,” life began to settle into a new unexpected routine. For Sarah (Tatiana Maslany), it meant giving Cal (Michiel Huisman) and Kira (Skyler Wexler) some bonding time while she went in search of answers back at Mrs. S’s (Maria Doyle Kennedy) house and exploring at Rachel’s apartment. For Alison, it meant finding out that she had checked herself into rehab – maybe because she was drinking excessively or maybe just to get away from her monitor husband Donnie (Kristian Bruun). For Cosima, it was adjusting to the fact that she was terribly ill and desperate to find an answer while keeping her clone sisters in the dark to her condition. And for Helena, it meant getting the hell away from those crazy Proletheans and finding someone she could really trust – which turned about to be Sarah, the sister that had shot her and left her for dead. ARROW Scoop: EP Marc Guggenheim Previews the Season 2 Finale and What Other Deaths Lie Ahead

May 14, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Arrow2-e1366746033717

In last week’s episode “Streets of Fire,” Starling City was literally under siege by Slade Wilson’s (Manu Bennett) Mirakuru Army. The chaos and disorder was just the beginning. Anyone and everyone was a target. It did not matter who it was. The Mirakuru infected were no longer men with the ability to reason. They just murdered everyone who happened to be in their path. Starling City’s newest mayor Sebastian Blood (Kevin Alejandro) was not even safe as he took a sword to the chest by Ravager aka Isabel Rochev (Summer Glau) — as if we could even call her human anymore. The District Attorney was added to the body of the fallen before anyone could blink. Slade’s humanity is highly in doubt as he merely laughed with maniacal glee at the death and destruction his army was raining down upon the city that Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) held so dear.

As also seen, everyone of Oliver’s team and those who align with him are targets. Having already taken the life of Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson), Slade has vowed to take at least one more life — the second person Oliver holds most dear. Given that Slade had dispatched one of his nameless/faceless men to hunt down Thea Queen (Willa Holland) and another to the police precinct where Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and her father Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne) were holed up, that only leaves two possible candidates of who is the person Oliver holds most dear: Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). Just who will be the lucky lady? That is what everyone is holding their breaths over for this week’s momentous Season 2 finale.

In a recent exclusive interview, executive producer Marc Guggenheim talked about what tense alliances lie ahead in the finale and whether Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) will rise from the dead one last time to take a stand to protect his daughter, Thea. [Read more…]

THE 100 Redux: What We Learned from “Day Trip”

May 14, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

the 100 day trip

Last week’s episode of THE 100 was illuminating on many levels. For one, it finally introduced the Grounder who had caught and tortured in the previous episode. Besides speaking fluid English, the Grounder has a name: Lincoln (Ricky Whittle) and it is probably no coincidence that he was named after one of our nation’s forefathers since Lincoln proved to be judicious, cautious, and curious. In fact, he has been keeping watchful eye over the hundred since their arrival, and taking careful notes of their activities and moments. Lincoln’s instinct was not to approach them or to antagonize the survivors. Rather he wants to see: what they are doing, why did the come to Earth, how did they arrive, and where are they from?

We also know is that Lincoln took a huge risk in saving Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) and secreting her away from his fellow Grounders to keep her safe. He then later proved the depth of his feelings for her when he disclosed which vial contained the poison antidote. Lincoln is not an unfeeling monster seeking to keep everyone in his path; instead, he has shown intelligence and a grasp of language, which is not expected a century after a nuclear holocaust. ORPHAN BLACK Redux: Who’s Your Daddy?

May 9, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

OrphanBlack_Pair_9_FN

The one question no one thought to really focus on in Season 1 of ORPHAN BLACK was: who’s Kira’s (Skyler Wexler) father? In last week’s episode “Mingling Its Own Nature With It,” that question was answer in a rather surprising fashion. Sarah (Tatiana Maslany), Kira and Felix (Jordan Gavaris) were on their way out of town and decided to spend the night at an empty farmhouse, when the owner unexpectedly returned. With Kira’s innocent question: “Are you my daddy?” the ORPHAN BLACK world exploded.

Not only did Kira finally get to meet her father, fans and viewers did too. Apparently Cal (Michael Huisman) was one of Sarah’s marks from her good ole days of grifting. But after just one month together, Sarah high-tailed it with $10,000 of his money and he has not seen her since. So imagine his surprise when she shows up 8 years later with a daughter in tow, which she claims is likely his.

Somehow the question of Kira’s paternity seemed irrelevant last season with Kira was safely tucked away with Mrs. S (Maria Doyle Kennedy) while the events of “clone club” and the Prolethians and the Neolutionists unfolded. But after it was discovered that Kira’s life was on the line, a close call with a near abduction by the Prolethians, and with Mrs. S no longer to be trusted as Kira’s guardian, Sarah turned to her one last resort – Kira’s father. THE 100 Preview: “Day Trip” (Grounders, Gractavia and Ground Control!)

May 7, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

the 100 day trip

In last week’s episode “Contents Under Pressure” of THE 100 it is hard to say which resonated louder: the softly spoken “thank you” offered by the Grounder (Ricky Whittle) to Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos); or when Chancellor Jaha (Isaiah Washington) said that there were space pods to transport only 700 of the 2,200 people still alive on the Ark. If you thought it was brutal when the Ark had to cull out 320 of their population to give everyone enough oxygen to survive for a few more months, imagine how everyone is going to react to finding out only 700 get to make the trip to Earth.

So there are some big secrets still hanging in the air as the show picks up this week in “Day Trip.”

Given Octavia’s soft-spot for the Grounder who saved her life and who has proven he will do anything to save her, including betray his own people, there is surely going to be more going on with that budding friendship/relationship (now called “Gractavia”). Will Octavia be able to stand by and watch her brother torture a man who so obviously cares for her, or will she feel compelled to help him get free? And what does that mean for the formerly budding romance between Octavia and Jasper (Devon Bostick)? Jasper just may find himself alone as Octavia gives her heart to another. But having survived a Grounder attack himself, it is hard to imagine that Jasper will give up on the girl he loves any time soon.

Plus, just listen to what Devon Bostick had to say about Jasper and his deep love for Octavia in this interview: [Read more…]

ARROW Preview: “Streets of Fire” (Masks, Mirakuru, and Malcolm Merlyn, Oh My!)

May 7, 2014 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

unnamed-11

Ever since we found out that Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) was not only still alive, but that he is also Thea Queen’s (Willa Holland) father, we knew that Malcolm would one day return to Starling City to finish his mission to destroy the Glades and to claim what he thinks rightfully belongs to him — his daughter. Unfortunately for Thea, upon the death of Moira (Susanna Thompson), Malcolm now feels safe enough to return. Without Moira’s threat to unleash the League of Assassins on him, Malcolm returns and undoubtedly has another diabolical plan that he wants to spring upon everyone.

But will Malcolm stand and fight with Oliver against Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) to protect Thea or will Malcolm simply steal Thea from right under Slade and Oliver’s noses? And how will Roy (Colton Haynes) feel about Thea’s father resurrecting from his very richly deserved death and coming back to perhaps finish off the Glades, Roy’s home turf?

As if Oliver Queen did not have enough on his plate at the moment, having to face and deal with Malcolm Merlyn is the last thing he needs; unless Malcolm is sticking around to help out and fight against Slade Wilson and his Mirakuru army, Malcolm is one more problem to deal with another day.

But will Thea see it the same way? Maybe she is intrigued by the idea of getting to know her biological father. After all, she has not been privy to Malcolm’s extracurricular activities as the Dark Archer and all the times he and Oliver faced off. So maybe in her mind Malcolm is just the parental figure she needs right now. Though I suspect even if Thea were initially swayed by Malcolm’s charm, she would ultimately sense the one thing she cannot abide by – the lies. After listening to her own family’s lies for years, Thea is pretty finely attune to when someone is lying to her and it remains a hot button for her. Malcolm had better tread carefully or she might unleash all her pent-up rage and anger against him if she finds out he is also lying to her about anything. [Read more…]

ORPHAN BLACK Redux: The Surprising End to the Search for Kira and Mrs. S

May 3, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

OrphanBlack_Cast_1_R18_RLC_FNL3_RGB_Online-2

In last week’s episode “Governed by Sound Reason and True Religion,” Cosima got a new lab, Alison went to a funeral, Helena got a new home, and Sarah (Tatiana Maslany) continued her hot pursuit of her missing daughter Kira (Skyler Wexler). But in the end, only one clone was really happy with the results.

When Kira first went missing, we feared that the search for her would take an entire season, so it was a great relief that this past episode finally reunited Sarah and Kira, and briefly Mrs. S (Maria Doyle Kennedy). For after quickly ascertaining that Rachel had been bluffing when she said she had Kira, Sarah got right back on track in searching for Kira; and, fortunately, that search ended up not being that long as Kira was only being in used in bait to lure Sarah into a Prolethian trap — unbeknownst to Mrs. S, who simply thought her friends were helping her and Kira escape the country. But like usual, everyone underestimates Sarah. The second she had a chance, Sarah grabbed Kira and high-tailed it away from the so-called safehouse. She is also mighty lucky that Mrs. S proved to be on her side and could wield kitchen utensils and a shotgun in such a handy, lethal fashion. But with Sarah, Kira and Felix (Jordan Gavaris) making a hasty exit out of town, where does that leave everyone else? [Read more…]
