Exclusive Interview: Coby Bell Teases BURN NOTICE Season 5

June 30, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

After last week’s reveal that CIA Agent Jesse Porter had turned in his government-issued badge in favor of private security consulting, the question on everyone’s mind is:  what exactly is Jesse up to?  Turning to the man who knows the answers, Coby Bell took time out of his busy film schedule to provide an exclusive glimpse into Jesse’s world.

When asked what was really up with Jesse’s new security consulting job and whether it was a freelance or one-company kind of gig, Coby laughingly said that it is all in the hands of the writers right now.  He is just along for the roller-coaster ride.  He acknowledged that it was a way of keeping Jesse free to help with whatever comes up in the wild BURN NOTICE adventures with Michael, Fiona and Sam.  It also provides Jesse with a source of legitimate income and a way to bring in new clients.  As a bit of tease, Coby shared, “We never really talk about the company Jesse works for. You know about it, but we never really go there.”  Based on that response, it sounds like there is either something shady going on or the writers are keeping that particular door open for a later date.

When asked if there is one word he would use to describe Jesse, Coby initially laughed and said, “Sexy!”  Then he added, “Bad-ass!  They’re all bad-ass!”   Either one would suit Jesse just fine given his sultry persona on screen and his confidence in some very tricky high-stakes situations. Ask the Addict: Spoilers for SUPERNATURAL, TRUE BLOOD, NIKITA, 90210 & More!

June 30, 2011 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

As a 90210 fan who is still reeling from Naomi’s unexpected pregnancy reveal at the end of last season, I’m curious if you have any ideas as to just how the show plans on dealing with it come season 4? — Allie
The TV Addict: Assuming of course new showrunners Patti Carr and Lara Olsen bother to stick with last season’s somewhat out of left field baby bump bombshell, we can assure you that the pregnancy will have very little effect on Naomi. At least if the first two episodes of the season are any indication, which according to reports will not just see Naomi continue to be the life of the party, but do so in a manner that will catch the attention of both the authorities and the Dean of California University. Ouch!

Season 7 of SUPERNATURAL cannot come soon enough! Any scoop? — Noam
The TV Addict: Entitled “The Girl Next Door,” SUPERNATURAL’s much anticipated seventh season will kick off by not just introducing fans to an old flame friend of Sam’s, but will flashback to Sam and Dean’s teenage years where we’ll meet, as the episode’s title suggests, the girl next door… a beautiful girl who in typical SUPERNATURAL fashion harbours a terrible, emphasis on the terrible, secret. We Shine the Spotlight on ROYAL PAINS Star Brooke D’Orsay

June 29, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Full of enthusiasm and exuberance that mirrors her character on the show, Brooke D’Orsay could barely contain her excitement over the upcoming third season of ROYAL PAINS.  She was only too happy to share what she loves about Paige, the Paige/Evan relationship and what may lie ahead for the two love birds.

When last seen at the end of the second season, Paige and Evan were embarking on a European dream vacation.  As the series picks up nine months later, Paige and Evan return to life in the Hamptons still as in love and happy as ever.  As Brooke teased, “They did go to Europe. We start a year later at the beginning of the following summer. So they’ve been dating a year now. The first year everything is new and exciting, but this new year brings complications for their relationship.”  The balloon has not exactly burst, but real life issues begin to encroach in their cocoon of bliss.

Talking about the one thing that really stands out and describes who Paige is as a person, Brooke said that the word that best describes her is “benevolent.”  As she explained, “[Paige] has such a good heart and is so generous. She always tries to act in the best interest of others.”  Even when it may not be in her own best interest, such as hiding a secret. [Read more…]

Tackling the World of NECESSARY ROUGHNESS with Marc Blucas, Scott Cohen and EP Craig Shapiro

June 29, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

When art imitates life, it is often more truthful than reality itself.  In USA Network’s new series NECESSARY ROUGHNESS, in a twist of fate, a psychotherapist finds her personal life derailed just as her professional life takes off.

Based on a true story, the show manages to find the truth and trueness of some extraordinary stories (albeit fictionally depicted), but which echo the real world and everything seen in the news.  Celebrities, sports figures, politicians and Wall Street wizards all have one thing in common – a breaking point.  In NECESSARY ROUGHNESS, it is Dr. Dani Santino’s job to bring back these high-powered individuals from their breaking points.  She spotlights or highlights the stress-fractures in their professional/personal lives and teaches them to manage that stress.  Therapy is not always the most octane-fueled subject matter, but when looking at the lives of a professional football star, a high-stakes gambler, a radio or television personality, a CEO or even a race car driver, suddenly the inside-look at their lives and how they cope is just a bit more fascinating.  After all, who wouldn’t want to be able to know what they are talking about behind closed doors?

NECESSARY ROUGHNESS introduces us to Dr. Dani Santino, brilliantly and deftly portrayed by Callie Thorne, who helps such talented and privileged individuals.  But like a mirror does not just one side, each of these glittering stars and celebrities has a side that hides their fears and insecurities – all which combusts or manifests in negative ways threatening their successful professional lives.  And like her clients, Dani is not just a great therapist, helping those who do not even know they need help, she too needs a bit of help as her personal life disintegrates.  With a divorce, nasty allegations, rebellious teenage children and a mother with a propensity for eavesdropping, Dani must find a balance in her own life.  With humor, resilience and some surprising allies, Dani learns to navigate a world of high-stakes and even tougher personalities.   It will intrigue you and delight you as you discover the world of NECESSARY ROUGHNESS.

Taking a few moments to talk about the show and what is all about are executive producer Craig Shapiro, along with stars Marc Blucas, Scott Cohen, Hannah Marks and Patrick Johnson (To read more from Callie Thorne about her role as Dr. Dani, visit this article.) Mark Blucas portrays Matthew Donnally, a sports trainer for the Atlanta Hawks football team.  Scott Cohen portrays Nico Careles, the Atlanta Hawks’ fixer.  Hannah Marks and Patrick Johnson portray Lindsay and Ray J, the teenage children of Dr. Dani Santino. Melissa and Joey on MELISSA & JOEY!

June 29, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Last summer saw the debut of ABC Family’s hilarious new series MELISSA & JOEY starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence. As a family show, the series focuses on the challenges of a fun-loving politician who, after taking in her teenage niece and nephew after their parents are caught up in an criminal scandal, hires a manny to help out — a former business executive and money manager who just happened to be one of the victims of a ponzi-scheme scandal. The daily travails and conflicts of this make-shift family leads to much comedic tension and provides a light family drama as they all attempt to navigate the tenuous familial life created out of the most absurd circumstances.

As fans of MY FAKE FIANCÉ already know, the chemistry between Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence is dazzling. Whenever they are on screen together, they are riveting. While the show does not overtly focus on the will-they-or-wont-they kind of romantic entanglement, seeing Melissa and Joey’s characters dance around each other as they simultaneously strive to provide parental guidance to Ryder and Lennox — it is clear that they are not only role models for them, but they are also the bookends for their lives in this mixed-up world of comedy laced with a golden heart.

MELISSA & JOEY is about family in the most unusual of circumstances and how love grows in the midst of comedic, and yet perhaps predestined relationships. Family is not something that you have to be born into — it is the people that love you and care for you no matter what the circumstances. [Read more…]

Mark Feuerstein Reveals What’s Ahead on Season 3 of ROYAL PAINS

June 29, 2011 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

Mark Feuerstein

During a recent conference call, Mark Feuerstein provided some key insight into his character Hank Lawson and what lies ahead in the second season of ROYAL PAINS.

Where do we next find Hank after the nine months that have passed since the last time we saw him?
Mark:  It has been a long winter for Hank Lawson. The first time you will glimpse him having lived through the winter and spring, he will have a full beard on his face – a mane as I like to call it, across his entire face. He’s taking care of patients. He lives a full winter and spring running HankMed by himself — or with the help of Divya’s presence and responsibilities never made fully clear.  Over the course of the winter, she’s been through stuff with Raj and the cancellation of the wedding. But Evan’s been gallivanting all of Europe with Paige. So it’s been a long winter, but he’s made it through and he will shave his beard for all of our viewers who might not like to see that much hair on his face.  And then there’s a lot of new wrinkles and storylines to ensure from having you know, been away from HankMed for nine months. Callie Thorne Delivers the Inside Line on USA Network’s New Series NECESSARY ROUGHNESS

June 29, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Taking a page out of the successful television playbook, NECESSARY ROUGHNESS introduces viewers to an exclusive world where the rich and powerful play and where they can stumble into some thorny predicaments if they do not keep their game face on and cannot keep their head in the game – whether the game is competitive sports, politics, the news room, on a race track or in a boardroom.   To help keep these power players in the game, they seek the aid of Dr. Dani Santino, a psychotherapist, deftly portrayed by Callie Thorne.  During a recent press call, Callie shared what makes Dr. Dani the best player in the game.

What was it about the premise of the show and your character that made you want to do it?
Callie:  I think initially the fact that it was a true story and that it was based on a real woman, a real extraordinary woman, is you know why. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the script and read it in the first place. Because, to me, that automatically means that a story’s going to be that much more rich and that much more layered — especially in the writing room.  It just means that everything’s going to be that much more true, that much more grounded — and I was right. I read the script, I flew through it, and it felt so honest and based out of a real kind of truth, that even when I got to meet her, it all sort of fell into place so perfectly. Because there’s a spirit about her that fills up the entire page.  Which then makes it that much easier to go ahead and get in front of the camera and try to tell her story. [Read more…]

Time Jumps! Guest Stars! Road Trips! Executive Producers Andrew Lenchewski and Michael Rauch Share Secrets from the Third Season of ROYAL PAINS

June 28, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

As USA Network’s series ROYAL PAINS returns for its third season, we find out what is next for the Lawsons, Hank and Evan, and their father Eddie Lawson, last seen headed off to prison.  The show picks up nine months later to see the aftermath of so many momentous changes in their lives.  But as the Lawsons discover, no matter how many  surprises and curve balls that life throws at them, they are still bound by their enduring love and intertwined destinies.

What can you tell us about the one year time jump and how will this effect the various relationships on the show between the characters?
Andrew Lenchewski: Well, it’s not quite a year. I mean what we’re doing is the first two seasons were in one summer and now we’re jumping to the next summer. So we’re going about a little under a nine-month time jump from the end of Summer 1 of the Royal Pains life to the beginning of Summer 2.
Michael Rauch: That’s been one of the challenges and one of the fun parts for us —  how do you keep the characters in larger arcs going even though there’s been basically a bunch of seasons that we haven’t played and we haven’t seen and the audience hasn’t seen. It’s one of the reasons why we ended Season 2 the way we did with a lot of people going away so we could come back in Season 3 with getting into what happened while they were gone. A continuation of some storylines and some surprises that happened in the time we didn’t play. [Read more…]
