Spotlight: SWITCHED AT BIRTH Star Katie Leclerc

June 27, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt 1 Comment

In the magical world of Katie Leclerc, life has delivered her the role of a lifetime.  Playing Daphne Vasquez on the ABC Family series SWITCHED AT BIRTH, Katie is able to stretch her creative acting wings while portraying a young deaf teenager.  Having been diagnosed herself with Meniere’s disease, which causes fluctuating hearing loss, the role is something very close to Katie’s heart.

Briefly sharing what drew her to the role of Daphne, Katie said that she responded to a nationwide casting call and she was just lucky enough to land the role.  What initially drew her to the role was Daphne’s incredible strength.  She said, “Daphne’s the strongest person I’ve ever been able to play and I love that she is such a challenging role.”  In fact, in elaborating on the challenge of the role, Katie confessed, “I’ve never been more challenged than by playing Daphne. I’ve got to hit the marks  — while trying to be deaf. I’m challenged every day and it’s great!” [Read more…]

T. Thornton, Brigit Mendler and Adam Hicks Talk DISNEY’S FRIENDS FOR CHANGE GAMES

June 24, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Disney’s FRIENDS FOR CHANGE GAMES has found a fun way for kids to learn about going “green” and being aware of their impact on the world around them.  In the games series, Disney’s hottest young actors and stars participate in the games to show how easy and fun it is to make some changes in our lives that help the planet and protect the environment.

What is the purpose of Friends for Change?
Tiffany: Friends for Change is a Disney initiative that started 2 years ago.  This is our third year to do it.  It’s trying to get the kids involved around the world in helping the environment, and knowing what it means to go green.  There’s ideas online.  There’s a website at ProjectGreen.com which invites kids to participate as a part of this initiative and they have ideas online on how to help the environment.  So it’s games about recycling and washing your clothes in an environmentally friendly way.  So I think it will draw their attention even more so than just the games themselves.
Brigit:  I think the first step is getting the kids aware of the causes that are out there and then making it accessible and making it fun.  I think that’s the great thing about the Friends for Change games is that, first of all, the kids can realize there are ways to make saving the environment fun; and then from there to know it’s something that they can do within their own life, and then can go to Disney.com Project Green and see the different ways that they can participate. Summer Scoop: EXPEDITION IMPOSSIBLE

June 23, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

No matter what you think about reality TV, the man who made it an art form is Mark Burnett. From SURVIVOR to ECO-CHALLENGE, he knows exactly what kinds of survival shows are eye-catching and addictive. His latest venture is EXPEDITION IMPOSSIBLE: KINGDOM OF MOROCCO in which he takes 13 teams of 3 on a one month adventure through the vast terrain of Morocco. Based on the idea that people would love to be a part of an “Indiana Jones” type adventure, Mark created the show to test their mental acuity and physical prowess back-dropped against one of the most beautiful and romantic areas on the world – and nothing was more perfect than Morocco which is not only feature-film friendly, it encompasses a wide range of vistas to draw from — there is the Sahara, camels, Bedouins (The Blue People of the Desert), canyons, mountains with snowstorms, plains, rivers –everything, including the ancient city of Marrakesh. Ask the Addict: Spoilers for TRUE BLOOD, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, 90210 & More!

June 23, 2011 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

Although I’ve really been enjoying all the scoop you’ve been posting from Sunday’s MuchMusic Video Awards, I couldn’t help but notice that we haven’t heard anything from THE VAMPIRE DIARIES’ Kat Graham, who I know for a fact was in attendance! Any reason why? — Jess
The TV Addict: Simply put, much like her stunning dress, Graham was holding her cards a little too close to the vest when it came to sharing season three spoilers. Well, except to reveal that there is one thing we’re fairly certain she won’t be worrying about when it comes to what’s in store for Bonnie during the third season of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. That thing of course being: Death! “Technically, I already died in the second season finale, so I’m not too worried,” joked Graham when asked if she was at all concerned with Jeremy’s history of dearly-departed girlfriends. “Plus, it certainly helps that the characters have such a huge fan base rooting for them.”

Any word on what creator Marc Cherry has up his sleeve for DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES traditional season long mystery this fall? — Zoe
The TV Addict: Not so much of a word, as an inkling that said mystery might have a little something to do with the newest arrival on the lane. According to sources, Producers have quietly been on the look out for a love interest for Vanessa Williams’ Renee, who moves into town along with his out-of-control teenaged daughter to escape his crazy ex-wife who not surprisingly enough may not be too far behind. The Inside Scoop on USA Network’s New Series SUITS: Interviews with Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman and EP Doug Liman

June 23, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt 1 Comment

In a miraculous stroke of good fortune, USA Network opened the doors of its brand new drama series SUITS to the press so that we could see what is really going on in the hallowed halls of the fictional law offices of Pearson Harden.  As can be seen from the set photos, it was rare chance to see a new show being built from the ground up – to watch the glass tower world of New York City be rebuilt in a Toronto film studio.  Providing their exclusive insight on their characters and the secret ingredient to this new show were stars Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman and executive producer Doug Liman.  (Unfortunately Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle were tied up filming and were not available for interviews that day.)

SUITS invites viewers into a world where it is the ultimate con:  a hotshot lawyer takes a genius kid and passes him off as an attorney working within his firm.   Whether it is a game, a con or something more, the surprising friendship and relationships that arise out of this masterful illusion makes for surprising and compelling television.  Meeting the actors who brought these intriguing characters to life helped explain some of that mystery – with good casting comes great characters.  And even better yet, the secret to a successful television series. A Few Candid Questions With Doug Liman, Executive Producer of USA Network’s New Series SUITS

June 22, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt 1 Comment

Sharing a bit about USA Network’s new series SUITS, in a recent conference call, executive producer Doug Liman (Pictured above, green tshirt) revealed the genesis and secret ingredients of this new show about the ultimate con: conning the ultimate con men, lawyers.  In a brilliant strategic maneuver, a Harvard lawyer hires a young man with no legal credentials to be his right-hand man in the hallowed halls of New York City’s finest law firm.

What can you tell us about SUITS and what we can expect from the first season?
Doug Liman: Well, SUITS is at its heart an amazing buddy story between Gabriel Macht and Patrick Adams’ characters, and at the same time it is a legal show.  But it’s unlike any other legal show you might have seen because it doesn’t take place in the courtrooms.  It’s really about hitting the jackpot and working at one of the elite New York City law firms where you’re young, you work crazy long hours — but you make a ton of money.  And that’s the situation that Patrick Adams’s character finds himself in. He’s doing all of that without ever actually having to go to law school and there’s the threat that at some point he’ll be found out and he’ll have to leave the ball. And Gabriel Macht plays his boss and his mentor. The thing that I love about television — especially working at USA Network — is that it is about characters, and this show is so much more about the dynamic between these characters than it is about solving the case of the week. They have the chemistry — which you can see when you watch the ads — the chemistry between Patrick and Gabriel is extraordinary. [Read more…]

June 21, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Tonight ABC debuts a different kind of game show in the form of 101 WAYS TO LEAVE A GAME SHOW. It is not about the questions, the challenges or the personalities – it is all about how each contestant literally gets kicked off the show. Taking from the success of other kinds of extreme reality shows that have tickled the funny-bone and dared to show death-defying feats using the average person, this show seeks to amp up the adrenaline by inventing new ways to remove contestants in the most shocking ways possible. Summer Scoop: Michelle Borth and Elias Koteas Talk COMBAT HOSPITAL

June 21, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

On June 21st, ABC debuts its new gripping medical drama COMBAT HOSPITAL starring Michelle Borth and Elias Koteas. Sharing a bit about what the show is about, Michelle said that she plays Rebecca Gordon a trauma surgeon, who is newly appointed as a major in the Canadian forces in Afghanistan and also works under Elias’ character Col. Xavier Marks, who helps Rebecca acclimate to a world where supplies are scarce and time is of the essence every second of the day.

To prepare for the role, Michelle admitted to doing a fair amount of research, including watching surgeries online. In fact, she was surprised to find out how much you can learn from YouTube! She also worked diligently with the on-set medical consultant, who she said is their most valuable resource helping them with the tough medical lingo and mimicking medical procedures. In fact, they had to actually learn how to do some of the basic procedures to add to the realism. [Read more…]

A Glimpse From Behind the Curtain: COVERT AFFAIRS Set Visit and Interviews With Piper Perabo, Chris Gorham, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Kari Matchett, Eoin Bailey and EP Doug Liman

June 21, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt 1 Comment

Every once in a while the stars align and a wish is granted.  In this case, a very special glimpse behind the curtain of the smash hit summer series COVERT AFFAIRS.  Invited to attend a special press day at the COVERT AFFAIRS film set in Toronto, Canada, the press were not only given an in-depth tour of all the sets, but we also had the chance to interview a few of the people who make the magic happen, including stars Piper Perabo, Chris Gorham, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Kari Matchett, special guest Eion Bailey, and executive producer Doug Liman.  (Alas, M.I.A. that day were co-stars Peter Gallagher and Anne Dudek who were not on set filming that day.)

The sets of the CIA headquarters (including Auggie’s office, Annie’s desk, Joan’s office, and Arthur’s office) were as grand and prestigious in real life as they look on screen.  Just as lush and yet a bit more intimate were the sets of Annie’s bedroom, Danielle’s kitchen and Joan and Arthur’s house — a brand new set which viewers will be seeing very soon.  Thus, it was with much excitement and near giddy glee as we all walked around gawking at the built to scale interiors of the all too familiar settings.  Being fans of the show, it was a privilege to walk amongst the fictional world that we all loved to peek inside each week.

As if wandering through the hallowed halls of the mock-CIA sets were not enough, we were also allowed to watch a few live action scenes from an upcoming episode.  Due to the confidential nature of the filming, suffice it to say, it was a pleasant surprise to see Eion Bailey, who plays Ben Mercer, again.

Life in the COVERT AFFAIRS world is as glamorous and action-packed as one can imagine.  The activity just never stopped.  It was a great pleasure that each of the cast members and executive producer Doug Liman took a few moments out of their busy schedules to share a few candid thoughts about the show.  In fact, Mr. Liman made a special trip via his personal plane in which he flew directly to the set.  It sure makes a grand entrance when a television producer lands his plane right in the parking lot outside the studio.  It was a remarkable and generous gesture that he was willing to literally pop in and talk about the amazing world of COVERT AFFAIRS!
