THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Preview: “Man On Fire” (Twins, Travelers and Torture, Oh My!)

April 24, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

the vampire diaries man on fire

Fans of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES know that the show likes to flirt with the darkness. But this week’s episode goes a bit darker than most. It reveals a dark secret and some even darker motives at play. Fortunately, it allows for our heroes to be heroes and the villains to be villains and everyone gets a chance to play with fire in this episode — some more literally than others. Those Travelers, as we have seen, are quite fond of fire. But this time, it will be someone else who says, “Shall we burn together, you and I?” Fire is employed both literally and metaphysically in this week’s episode “Man On Fire.”

As discovered in last week’s episode, the wall between the Otherside and our world is crumbling and it is causing supernatural spirits to disappear into the void. It is also pulling on Bonnie (Kat Graham), who serves as the anchor and if the Otherside continues to crumble, it could take down Bonnie in the process. [Read more…]

ARROW Spoiler Alert: EP Andrew Kreisberg Dishes on Wednesday’s Bloody Shocking Final Scene (“Seeing Red,” Indeed!)

This week’s episode was a tear-jerker on many levels. It was bad enough seeing Roy all zombified and hurting everyone he cares about. But the death of Moira Queen tops everything. As the matriarch of the Queen Empire it was a devastating loss. Thea and Oliver are bereft and nearly unfunctional after losing their mother, and in such a brutal, heartless fashion right before their eyes. It is now apparent that Slade Wilson’s revenge this season may have initially felt agonizing and relentless, but never more so diabolically evil that with that thrust of his sword claiming Moira’s life. It did not help that Moira chose to sacrifice her life so that her children could live and that Oliver would not be forced to chose. In the end, she is still dead and Slade is the one responsible. What did he achieve in killing Moira? It only demonstrated how far gone his humanity is. There is no saving him. There is only the time remaining on the clock in how many more minutes and seconds Oliver lets him live.

In a press interview, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg gave some candid and cryptic answers to the more pressing questions about why this tragic event came to pass and what lies ahead for the ARROW heroes. [Read more…]

WonderCon 2014: THE 100 Cast Dishes on Love Triangles and the Struggle for Power

April 23, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

IMG_0724

In the CW series THE 100, there are two worlds that are slowly colliding — the vibrant and lethal world of Earth, where the teens were sent to see if it is inhabitable; and the dying and decaying world of the Ark up in space.

In recent episodes, those worlds began to collide when Clarke’s mother Abby (Paige Turco) sent Raven (Lindsey Morgan) down in a space pod to find out what is going on after they lost communication with the teens’ ship after it land on Earth and their life-support wrist monitors began to go dark. After being forced to kill another 320 people in order to extend the last remaining oxygen supply for those still trapped up on the Ark, it is vital to find out if Earth can be a safe refuge for those who will die without another oxygen source.

In last week’s episode, Raven reach Earth and was reunited with the teens, but was left without any way of communicating back with the Ark. Bellamy (Bob Morley) fearing that the others would find out that he shot Chancellor Jaha (Isaiah Washington), destroyed the space pod radio while Raven was unconscious – a hasty act which he soon regretted after finding out that the Chancellor had survived the gun-shot wound.

In one last desperate attempt to catch someone on the Ark’s attention, Raven, Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and Bellamy worked together to send up rocket flares. Alas, while seen by Abby on the Ark, Abby had no idea what to make of the streaking flashes of light in the sky.

Simultaneously, the headstrong Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) had wandered off alone in the woods and got captured by the Grounders.

So this week’s episode “His Sister’s Keeper” is all about the rescue of Octavia and the continuing efforts to find a way to contact the Ark.

While at WonderCon this past weekend, stars Eliza Taylor, Bob Morley, Devon Bostick, Lindsey Morgan and executive producer Jason Rothenberg talked about the various developing love triangles, the tug-of-war for power between the factions on Earth, and the challenges of filming such an intense post-apocalyptic series. THE ORIGINALS Scoop: Chase Coleman Talks The Fun Of Playing A Werewolf Willing to Go to War With the Vampires

April 22, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

OR113b_0197b.w

In a world run by vampires and witches, the one thing everyone tends to forget are the werewolves. In the CW series THE ORIGINALS, the one key ingredient has always been the power of the wolves. Yet Klaus (Joseph Morgan) himself is a hybrid werewolf/vampire and his baby mamma Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) is also a werewolf. It is so easy to get distracted by vampire drama and the witches plots, and the silly human rebellions against supernatural rule, but one should never forget about the werewolves. They are always there and waiting for their chance to strike.

In a recent exclusive interview, co-star Chase Coleman, who plays the werewolf Oliver, talked about what is starting to brew with the wolves and their pack, and how that leads to some complications with Hayley, who is trying to live amongst her kind and assume her role as one of its ranking members. STAR-CROSSED Scoop: The Cast Dishes on Tonight’s Stormy New Episode as Human/Alien Relations Heat Up During a Hurricane

April 21, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

72063

In this week’s new episode of STAR-CROSSED, “What Storm Is This That Blows So,” a hurricane hits Edendale and forces the students at Marshall High into lock-down. But due to the suspicious nature and suddenness of the storm, Lukas (Titus Makin Jr.) and Sophia (Brina Palencia) investigate to find out what may have been the real cause of this ferocious visit from Mother Nature. Also suspicious is Roman (Matt Lanter) who believes that Teri (Chelsea Gilligan) may be conspiring with her Trag mom Vega (Merle Dandridge) in a plot to harm Emery (Aimee Teegarden), after last week’s public outing by Castor (Johnathan Schaech). Then Grayson (Grey Damon) puts pressure on Drake (Greg Finley) to reveal the names of the Trags conspiring against the humans. And if that was not enough drama to keep everyone busy during the lock-down, Ms. Benton (Stephanie Jacobsen) needs an Atrian specimen to run further tests on to discover the secrets of cyper.

Hilariously, the one person looking to keep as far away from trouble in this episode is Erik (Jesse Luke), alas he is a bit of a trouble-magnet and he finds himself having to talk himself out of a couple of awkward situations.

But not everything is life and death in this episode. There is occasion for a least two unexpectedly warm and wonderful kisses and the new romances starting to bloom between the Atrians and humans are going to fight hard to keep their various feuding factions from driving them apart. If only life could be all about love, and not having to worry about those who would hunt each of them down for just being different.

This is the dilemma that STAR-CROSSED tackles head-on. The distrust and resentment by the extremists amongst the Atrians and the humans is heating up and its put these teens lives at risk. What is fascinating is seeing how deftly each rises to the challenge and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect their families and love ones, while still trying to keep the peace and find a way to encourage further integration and understanding.

While at WonderCon this past weekend, the cast took a few minutes to talk about the big hurricane episode of STAR-CROSSED and how it impacts their characters. (Also fun are the shout-outs by Aimee Teegarden, Jesse Luken, Matt Lanter and executive producers Adele Lim and Meredith Averill who express their delight in William Shatner’s recent live-tweets of their show.)
