We Fall Down the Rabbit Hole That Is ONCE UPON A TIME

March 25, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

The dark fantasy series ONCE UPON A TIME dares to retell all the classic fairytales in ways that we never imagined.  It recently revealed its twisty-turn on the Red Riding Hood tale, by revealing that Red is the big, bad wolf.  It also showed us that “beast” from the Beauty & Beast story could indeed be the all-powerful and cursed Rumplestiltskin whose true love, Belle, was stolen from him.  It also dared to envision that Snow White was a badass heroine and Prince Charming was an imposter brought in to keep peace between kingdoms.  Then in a fanciful turn, it also explained why Grumpy of the Snow White and Seven Dwarves is “grumpy” and no longer “dreamy.”  Embedded throughout all these reimagined tales is the belief that one over-riding curse enacted by the Evil Queen in responsible for erasing everyone’s memories of their former lives and it has now forced them to live eternally-captive in the town of Storybrooke, Maine.  [Read more…]

Television Composer Kim Planert Talks the Magic of Composing Music for MISSING

March 22, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

As fans of CASTLE can attest, the intro music sets the tone of the show; it is a jaunty, friendly mix that welcomes viewers to each episode. It’s a fabulous piece composed by Kim Planert’s writing partner Robert Duncan, for which Rob received an Emmy nomination for Best Original Dramatic Score. Similarly, for the new show MISSING, for which Kim and Robert co-compose, the music back-dropping each episode unconsciously informs the audience whether a scene is more sinister, dramatic or light-hearted. Music is frequently the one thing the audience overlooks as they sit back and watch their favorite TV shows; but without it, each show would have a harder time luring viewers into the mood it seeks to create – whether it is to heighten the suspense, draw out a long-awaited romantic moment, or startle the viewer into jumping at the right moment as a big surprise is revealed. Composing music for television is an art form and fortunately in recent years it has gained more recognition and popularity as fans have begun to appreciate how pivotal and influential music is to the shows they love.

In an exclusive interview, composer Kim Planert shared how he got into composing for television and the types of sound that influence him as he brings a scene to life through the magic of music. [Read more…]

Ask the Addict: Spoilers for BONES, THE GOOD WIFE, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, HART OF DIXIE & More!

March 22, 2012 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

This long time FRIENDS fan is ridiculously excited for Matthew Perry’s appearance on Sunday’s episode. Any hints as to what he’s up to? — Rachelle
The TV Addict: Unfortunately for Alicia, when it comes to this Sunday’s episode, the good wife and great lawyer does not have a friend in Matthew Perry who as head of a blue ribbon commission tasked with getting to the bottom of a police shooting may not exactly have “finding the truth” at the top of his to-do list.

This GOOD WIFE obsessed fan cannot get enough of Dylan Baker’s uber-creepy client Colin Sweeney. Are there any plans to see him stir up trouble before this season comes to a close? — Brenda
The TV Addict: Not that we know of. But if it helps, Sunday’s episode does culminate with the surprise return of someone, that in our humble opinion, is far more dangerous than your run-of-the-mill convicted killer when it comes to Alicia’s well-being.

With all the hype surrounding BONES’ upcoming trip to Hollywood, I couldn’t help but notice that both the producers and cast were being relatively mum on what role — if any — Dr. Camille Saroyan plays in the episode? — Wilson
The TV Addict: If the producers and cast are being a little less than forthcoming with regards to what role — if any — Cam plays during the show’s much-anticipated trip to Hollywood that sees Booth and Brennan investigate a murder on the set of the film adaptation of Brennan’s book, it’s for good reason. And we say that as someone who was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of Cam’s costume courtesy of Tamara Taylor’s very own iPhone photo album that she was kind enough to show off during a recent one-on-one in Toronto. Suffice it to say, a completely different side of the good doctor doesn’t begin to describe things. So stay tuned! [Read more…]

March 22, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

The biggest mystery to date on AWAKE has been which of Detective Michael Britten’s realities is real: the one with his wife or the one with his son.  But as the show peels back layer after layer another intriguing mystery has arisen:  who would anyone want to kill his family?  In recent interview during a conference call with press, co-stars Steve Harris and Wilmer Valderrama also posed the interesting possibility that the two realities may interest in upcoming episodes.  It is already a juggling act to track Britten’s realities, but imagine if those realities began to not only mess with his mind, but ours as well.  Regardless of the mind-tricks and carefully embedded mysteries tying the series together, this interview reveals that the actors are clearly having a ball making AWAKE a reality for us to watch.
